The whole tactic imo relies on Grimes.

In build we move the CBs wide to try and get him on the ball asap and then he sets the pass either going long, dribbling into space or dictating the pace.

I don’t know what would happen but think we’d probably go to the 5-3-2, 5-4-1 and try and grind results.

People mention we need a understudy and while I agree, imagine it would be very big boots to fill

He also stayed with them through relegation before and seems to have a genuine affinity for the club.

I see your point but we are in a slightly different era, one of US and Saudi football for certain types of player over 32. He’s the type of player that would suit either and would thrive for a couple of seasons.

In his shoes would I want to be getting a relegation on my CV with a season of being kicked by League One lunatics as the mapped future? Or, get on the sky blue express with a massive £ incentive with a worst case of having a move to the sun?

A decent agent gets him a last hurrah in the MLS or Arabia. (Where’s Gyok’s agent?).

I can’t see any other player fitting our bill as a Grimes stand in.

He's already got that on his CV with Wednesday.

Bannan could have left them well before now, when it was his professional interests to do so. He didn't, took a significant pay cut, and that tells you he's completely committed to their cause.

There's no chance Bannan stops fighting for them to sit on our (or anyone else's) bench.
