Johnson no-show scuppers TV debate

It’s good to talk. Unless you’re Boris.

Political suicide going against your own party therefore causing a GE, not a chance

It’s no different to what the ERG has done.

When push come to shove - do you think they'd really follow it through?

Eventually they have to decide to do what is best for the country or what is best for the Conservative party. They'll always pick the party.

There is zero chance. They may do so once but within 14 days they will retract - it’s deselection and oblivion - only the traitor Grieve may carry it out as he’s finished anyway

What's in it for Ken Clarke then?

Perhaps some of the others would rather fight for a party and country ahead of self interest. Alternatively, it may be the tipping point to follow some of the others out if their party.

Clarke will not want an epitaph if a traitor and being chucked out of the party

Given the defections and resignations from the conservatives already it’s not beyond the realms of possibilities. Seem to remember Heidi Allen and Soubry claim other Tories were holding out to see how things pan out before deciding their future with the Conservatives. Again it’s not beyond the realms of possibilities that the election of either Hunt or Boris could be enough to trigger resignations and defections from the Conservatives in either direction. Brexit has divided the Tories massively in Westminster. I wouldn’t bet against the result of the leadership election triggering a general election through resignations and defections meaning that the Tories can no longer form a government, agreement with the DUP or not. Might not get as far as a vote of no confidence.

Including her name by the sounds of it

Wish she'd just keep to getting irate about importing cheese and opening pork markets.

Nope. Bit of pressure from the whips and threats that'll affect them personally and they'll soon shut up.

It only needs 4 doesn’t it? I think the government has a majority in the commons of 4 with the DUP agreement.

Would need more than that to offset Labour rebels if we go down that route, who'd be quite happy to see a no-deal Brexit.

It's all fucked up, man!

I reckon there may be up to 4-6 Lab MP’s in favour of no-deal. Then you are left with the Independents - oh and don’t forget Chuka who will have probably moved to the Tory party by the time a vote would come around.

Andrew Neil was hilarious on the politics show.

“Chuka we’ve been on for half an hour and so I need to ask what party are you now in. I assume you’ve left the Lib Dem’s by now?”

I think it’s entirely the appropriate choice for this country - he will be following in a line of liberalised dimwits like Blair and Cameron. All 3 are carbon copies of each other. May and Brown were old school politicians and were easily the least popular of these 5

Not been seen in public for 48 hours. He’s got nothing to say. This whole argument with the girlfriend seems highly convenient. Not saying it was staged but...

He can’t have much faith in his ability to be PM if either turns out to be the real story.

Well he must be very clever if he thinks he can stage a row and a dumbo neighbour will stand outside recording it to sell to the guardian

Big Al will in the end deliver the same deal that May did to parliament as his Brexit proposal

He’ll get severely sloshed with Junker beforehand and they’ll stagger out with big cheesy grins and a brave new world speech

All the previous objectors will swallow it in the party

Johnson is the best magician in the universe despite having the ability of Tommy Cooper

He will be PM and he will deliver the same result as before but the difference is he has a strange Teflon material

Everyone will be happy and two weeks later he will forget it ever happened

Even Nigel “the man” Ferage has said today that Boris can’t get brexit through parliament. If he disappears and says nothing or when he does appear there’s something else that the media wants to talk about he hasn’t got to talk about brexit. It’s got to be one of the few elections where a non political scandal of a candidate has been seen as a welcome distraction rather than an unwelcome distraction, this scandal does seem to be the cornerstone of Boris’ campaign.

Don’t worry folks. He’s still alive and still waffling bollocks. Johnson defends Brexit plan and 'row' silence

Said a while back that I suspect the members will decide Boris is just too big a risk/liability as he will put his big foot in it at some stage.

Some guy hit a nerve on 5Live earlier, imagine the scenario from the other night. Trump issues the order to bomb Iran & pulls out minutes before, but forgets to tell Boris (or just as likely Boris jumps the gun)...by dawn the next day he would have gone nuclear & there would be no Iran! He has a volatility about him...do you trust him with the button???

We are making the same mistakes as the Clinton campaign with this domestic. Doesn’t touch him and makes the rest look shrill.

Same with his incompetence. So many stories coming out that it’s just white noise. This campaigns got Bannon's fingerprints all over it.

It does seem a bit "a moving target is harder to hit" - keep the cycle going so no-one can focus on any one thing. Trouble is he seems to have got mired in this domestic argument a bit. He needs a new distraction.

Strange thing is, as much as I think Boris is totally incompetent I still think I'd arguably prefer him to Hunt, who got a very hardcore market driven capitalist ethos and I fear for many of our public services if he got it. Like Pence replacing Trump - arguably more dangerous because he's got some very worrying ideologies.
