We are two wide from winning this league (3 Viewers)

It goes back to formations and how we are set up.

I think Matt Godden is a very good striker at this level with a great work rate, but he has only scored one league goal at St. Andrews, and that was from capitalising on some slack play by centre halves.

We just don't seem to give him clear cut chances... from memory, he had one half chance in both halves and were blocked as marked tight.

Again, JCH scored yesterday... so it makes you wonder why we can't get a striker the chances... should the wingers provide the chances... probably. So it could be an issue.

More questions than answers here!

I’d say 1, Jones still to come back but don’t know about winning the league. Anything other than play offs is a failure imo

It’s not really true it’s not working is it the last two home games Hiwula has missed 5 gilt edge chances so the creativity is there. I thought yesterday Jobello was staying too wide that might be to instruction though.

I disagree

Yesterday we should have scored 6, we created 6 clear cut chances which should have been scored.

I think the reality is, our front 3 need to start taking their chances a bit more clinically.

We look good and the opposition seem to be creating chances from our own mistakes, that's both the last 2 matches.

I don't think we will win the league anyway, we havent got the recourses to do so, that shouldn't be expected.

We should be finishing in the playoffs and with some consistency could sneak the second automatic spot.

But I'm going to say 4th

We definitely need more from the forward three, and the two outer forwards especially. Godden is finding it difficult because he's a bit isolated one way or another (although someone did say yesterday they noticed he doesn't ever go front post - don't know if that's accurate)

But I wouldn't say we're two wide men away because the 4-3-3 formation doesn't require 'wide men' in the true sense - they need to be a bit more tucked in.

I think Jobello is more of a 'proper' winger who likes to get crosses in but in a front three he also needs to be able to cut inside and shoot. Conversely Hiwula is used to playing centrally and isn't as good pushing out wide. That's why he's getting the chances (albeit mainly missing them) and Jobello isn't.

Kastaneer could be lethal in a front three and I'd like to see O'Hare in one of those positions for 30mins or so to see how he does even though it isn't his natural position, but we seem to have an embarrassment of riches in midfield so we could try mixing it up.

Tweaks are needed yes but i think we are not far away. As others have mwntione Hiwulla could have4 goals in 2 games if not for his finishing. Jobello robins is aware needs to modify his game so lets give him time and kastaneer could be dangerous if plays like he did in yesterdays cameo. Jodi jones if fit would make a big impact i think

Goddwn had 2 good chances to be fair yday. The close down shot was a real chance, wasnt one where he was never gonna get a shot off. Judt good defendijg. And godden jumped too early for a header too from grest mason cross. He will get goala dont worry

People saying Hiwula could have had 4 goals in 2 game. If that's the case he should have scored 100 goals for us by now. His finishing and passing is atrocious.

He should have and v Burton they were all misses a kid could score but on a positive he’s getting into good positions to score. Can be a confidence thing bang a couple in might be a spring board.

Anyone agree?
Think we are creating plenty of chances but not putting them away - If we had someone like that Ivan toney Peterborough we would clear leaders in this league - however, one of these games these chances are all going to go in and we will beat someone 5 or 6

Have to agree about godden being completely isolated. I think o’hare helps in the linking between the two but doesn’t bridge the gap.

Not sure what’s going on with Hiwula at the moment but he has to be a bit more clinical, not sure either of them do enough for me defensively.

Thought kastaneer shown enough for me yesterday to warrant a chance to start, a lot more direct.

I think we will finish play offs as someone else said anything less than playoffs will be considered poor. A lot of looking on other forums are of the opinion we are one of the best footballing teams they have played, but we need to sustain performances.

Godden has 3 very good chances yesterday and there were a number of other good crosses that he was on his heels for. I love him but need more

Our team has had a few injuries to cope with, gone behind in a number of games and is still unbeaten. I really enjoyed the way we kept playing football (to feet) yesterday, rather than our teams of old where you could never work out what we were trying to do and you could never see us getting anything out of a losing position.. We should still improve (of course we will suffer the occasional defeat) as the players get to know each other better and the latest arrivals bed in. Loving it !!

Hiwula's consistency is a real issue. Most games he wouldn't score above a 6/10. Misses far too many chances and doesn't real provide many opportunities for others. Need a better option on the left.

I don’t think Kastaneer or Baka are much better finishers than Hiwula. Hiwula is going through a sticky patch in front of goal but usually he’s one of the more clinical strikers. Maybe time to give somebody else a chance there but he’s still an important player for us with big potential.

2 wide players are our weakest link i think, yes.

They both go missing for too longer periods in my view, for now, appreciate we are only 10 games in!

Could See O’Hare and Jones taking those roles when everyone’s fit.

Kelly and two of Walsh, Shipley and Allen in the middle.

Do you think O’hare would be more effective out wide though? I personally like him through the middle as he works a lot and creates many of our chances

Said in January if we are serious we need 2 wingers Hiwula & Jobello are not good enough for automatic promotion in my opinion since I said that my view hasn’t changed on them they don’t offer enough.

O’Hare for Hiwula & Kastanner for Jobello once Kelly is back not sure how long Kelly is out for now must be close ?

Dabo - Hyam - Rose - Mason

Allen - Kelly - Walsh

Jones* - Godden - O'Hare

*on the assumption he comes back as good as he was pre injury

I reckon that's our best team, in my opinion, and I think that could get top 3, maybe top 2.

We’ve got a surplus of CMs really and they’re our best players. I think he’d do OK, he’s played wide before at other clubs.

At the moment Shipley is as worthy of a place as Walsh

Why are people so obsessed with shoving O'hare out wide, he's one of our most creative players and should play where he is best and can effect the game the most.
Id much rather we went into the loan/transfer market to bring in natural with in Jan if the current wingers aren't kicking on rather than shoehorn Ohare into a wide position.

Until then, have Hiwula practice one on ones every day at training

For me it’s more about trying to fit all our best players into one side. We have a surplus of quality CMs and one of them can play anywhere along the front line so why not?

Yep. We largely seem to think we've got issue with our wide front players but haven't got many other options to replace them. Midfield we've got plenty of options with more set to return so you can look at moving people around. Of those midfielders O'Hare would seem to have the most transferable skills to work in that front line. Of course we'd be missing some of his attributes in midfield but options like Westbrooke to replace him are decent enough.

When have you seen him play as a wide player in a front three?

People said that last season and we never did. If our strikers scored every chance they got, how long could we hold on to them?

I think it's more you'd expect on at least one occasion for the stars to align and for them to bag a hatful in a game because everything they touch goes in.

Personally I'd prefer the goals more spread out as it's likely to give you more points but I'd happily take giving someone an absolute drubbing. Better to win 3 games 2-1 than win one 6-1 and lose the other two 1-0
