This tedious battle has left a landscape full of impassable mud and shell holes full of water.
The various parties have utterly failed our club, right? There is very little chance of all CCFC fans (never mind the public at large) agreeing on who is most to blame, right? That means trench warfare will never get us anywhere, and just lead to more and more casualties, right?
Some pretty high-profile organisations are partners / sponsors of Wasps. I cannot imagine that they would take any pride in playing a part in wiping out a football academy, or in the PR implications of that. They’d suffer a bit if CCFC fans were to run an ongoing, noisy and very public campaign, showing up Wasps at every opportunity.
But that’s just more of the same conflict. Why always think along confrontational lines?
If they haven’t already done so, wouldn’t it make sense for the Trust to directly approach the people who back Wasps, and seek their explicit support to save the Sky Blues Academy? Not just words, but action. There’s a whole bunch of “club partners” listed on their website. Who knows, maybe they would see fit to try and counterbalance all the negativity by sponsoring youth football in the city too? Completely off the top of my head, why couldn’t there be a JLR-sponsored CCFC Academy development somewhere in the city. Warwick University for example, who already have some brilliant facilities which they get outside income from, and which might be boosted by having a state-of-the-art indoor pitch.
And if any of Wasps’ sponsors decide that they DON’T support the continuation of the Academy, that could be made public couldn’t it?
