Wasps sponsors (1 Viewer)

This tedious battle has left a landscape full of impassable mud and shell holes full of water.

The various parties have utterly failed our club, right? There is very little chance of all CCFC fans (never mind the public at large) agreeing on who is most to blame, right? That means trench warfare will never get us anywhere, and just lead to more and more casualties, right?

Some pretty high-profile organisations are partners / sponsors of Wasps. I cannot imagine that they would take any pride in playing a part in wiping out a football academy, or in the PR implications of that. They’d suffer a bit if CCFC fans were to run an ongoing, noisy and very public campaign, showing up Wasps at every opportunity.

But that’s just more of the same conflict. Why always think along confrontational lines?

If they haven’t already done so, wouldn’t it make sense for the Trust to directly approach the people who back Wasps, and seek their explicit support to save the Sky Blues Academy? Not just words, but action. There’s a whole bunch of “club partners” listed on their website. Who knows, maybe they would see fit to try and counterbalance all the negativity by sponsoring youth football in the city too? Completely off the top of my head, why couldn’t there be a JLR-sponsored CCFC Academy development somewhere in the city. Warwick University for example, who already have some brilliant facilities which they get outside income from, and which might be boosted by having a state-of-the-art indoor pitch.

And if any of Wasps’ sponsors decide that they DON’T support the continuation of the Academy, that could be made public couldn’t it?

I guess it depends if any of them have a link to the club or the actual city.

You can't expect some to care, sadly :(

You call for a truce and someone opens up a new front.
Fucking sick of it, I just want to go home to Blighty :(

But you have to ask why they never got involved with CCFC in the first place.

There must, after all, be reasons... and you'd assume those reasons are why they're not a prime target to lock onto now.

Couldn't agree more NW. What a powerful partner they would be.

Where did you see about them at compass?

The board at Wasps was changed to move away from sporting background to reflect a retail/entertainment one to open up their revenue opportunities.

Very interesting thread.

As Thr Trust are the nearest thing to club supporter representation have they had any dialogue with Wasps themselves? Have The Trust contacted Wasps supporter's club and had a talk as to why we feel this way. They nearly went out of existence a few years ago, and many have 200 mile round trips to home games so they must understand our plight.
I find it counter productive to be against everyone in life. Okay our owners (present) may delight in forming enemies and find it a kind of game, but does that mean we fans have to behave in the same manner?

I honestly respect the Trust and don't know why I haven't joined before now, but I will. But does anyone know if they have had dialogue with;
a) The Wasp ownership or managerment?
b) Supporters of Wasps
c) CCC
d) The Higgs Charity
e) any other organisation effected by our plight such as CRFC

I think everyone who works at JLR should resign in shame as their employer's are the biggest sponsor.

I would guess that Football does not meet with the company image, or you get far more coverage for less £ with a premiership Rugby club than a struggling L1 football club. JLR have been involved with WASPs before they moved to Coventry

You also have to ask why Coventry Building Society is no longer involved with CCFC, they ran various forms of sponsorship for years on end, then they stopped.

It all stopped when SISU started to distress the relationship with supporters among other parties. I think I am safe in stating that SISU distressed the relationship with some supporters as they did with me. If I remember right there were a few local companies pulling there support at the time.

They probably don't give wasps all that much in comparison to what they would have to give to a football club of any decent level, also some football fans will take offence at the sponsors of their rivals and not buy/use their products. I am sure I read years ago about Man City fans cancelling their Vodaphone contracts when they sponsored United, rugby fans don't seem to have the same rivalry.

My original post didn’t suggest that JLR (or anyone else for that matter) should suddenly jump in and sponsor CCFC as a whole.

But if what Wasps are doing at Allard Way means our Academy can no longer be accommodated there, why couldn’t JLR (who seem happy enough to back Wasps) dip their toe in the water and help provide a CCFC Academy elsewhere, as a way of redressing the balance a bit? Is the idea of a major local employer sponsoring local youth football so outrageous? Can we not just concentrate on saving the Academy and at least explore these kinds of possibilities, instead of endlessly arguing about whose fault it all is?

I use JLR only as the most obvious and potent example. Our club needs to start shaking off its toxic image, show a willingness to invest, and seek partnerships. And if they do that, the Council and CSF need to back them all the way instead of carrying on this petty war.
