Walk from coaches to ground (8 Viewers)

As much as i had a great time last night, proud of team and our wonderful supporters, im totally pissed off with the complete ignorance and incompetence of the club when selling the tickets/coach tickets. I always take my 83 year old dad to games, he's been a season ticket holder for nearly 60 years. I take him to away games when i can be assured i can park near or at the ground. When i bought our tickets i was told it was a short 10 minute walk from the coaches to the ground. I bought them because i know parking a car would have been impossible and trains at 83yo is too much hassle.

Luckily enough a Cov supporter from London contacted me to tell me about the planned 45 minute walk to the ground. I persuaded my dad it was not a good idea and he never went. How glad i am he didnt. The walk was ridiculous and mostly uphill, he would not have got half the way.

Two rants really.

1/ Why tell me its only 10 mins. Bloody stupid. Smacks at sales at all costs.

2/ What the hell are Arsenal thinking of not having a coach drop off point at the ground. A magnificent ground at that but trawling up to 9000 fans through the streets each week is nothing more than ridiculous and asking for a lot of trouble. Not all fans are as wonderful as ours.

I took an old friend at the last minute, he wasnt a pensioner but when we got to the game and explained the steward said 'carry on you deserve it for the hassle you have had' and let him in with a concession ticket.

I suppose, as an inner City ground, there wasn't much choice, although I admit there should be more clarity over the distance.

They always manage to find room if its to make huge sums of cash. Walking past Highbury now offices i think made me even more angry. No thought of supporters only huge sums of money. Perfect place for coaches, even a part of it. And i noticed another large area adjoining the ground under development, again for huge sums of profit i imagine. Cram the fans in, grab the money, usually £50 a ticket, no thoughts beyond that. No thoughts on safety or comfort. Fucking ridiculous.

pretty sure last time we played at highbury the coaches parked next to the ground. so why not just run shuttle buses or something. besides i really wanted a chicken burger but couldnt find anywhere, lol

My legs are still getting over it ,apparently there was some sort of shuttle bus service for the infirm ,phsically challenged, but it was'nt obvious , our coach driver had a chat with the guy driving it ,saying he was'nt exactly touting for customers.it was one hell of a yomp for people who'd been on it from around 1 PM. I have worked at the stadium on a few occassions and there are holding areas they use when other events/exhibitions are on within the ground .Thank god it was'nt raining when we left like at Bristol last season ,which was another yomp to the back of beyond when only intuition was our guide.

That was my thinking too, its a long bloody walk, surley car and coach parking should be high on the agenda when designing these places! ever heard of underground parking :jerkit:

Was one of the lucky ones then, coach 1 and 2 parked at the ground and was back in Coventry just gone 12. Shame they couldn't have told you a couple of coaches would do that so people who would struggle could still go.

The league allocation at the Emirates is 3000. Wednesday was the biggest away following they have ever had there - even Leeds only took 5500 for the FA Cup tie. 50 coaches I suspect is too many to handle so they made special arrangements.

Its a difficult one, much more is done for the elderly and infirm these days, much more than ever before in fact. I think you suffered from the 'Holiday brochure syndrome'...........its only 10 minutes to the beach etc !! They should have just told the truth. The tubes are fantastic for younger people but I wouldn't want to travel on them if struggling a bit with mobility either in later years.

Covs ticket office probably still had info referring to Highbury, with Charabang routes, British Rail train timetables and dog eared copy of a London A to Z showing the proposed site for the Millenium Dome, as thats about the last time we played Arsenal. Look on bright side - it will be many years before we have to think about going to those pesky Premier grounds on a regular basis.

I know we shouldn't have to but we were in london. Busses running every couple of minutes and the underground is the same.

To be fair even the review on http://www.footballgroundguide.com/arsenal/ said that it's only a 10 min walk (from the Twelve Pins) and they're normally fairly accurate; it was more like 20 and I don't tend to hang about when I'm walking.

I'd say 10 minutes was fairly accurate from my walk from twelve pins

All the coaches went past the 12 Pins. It seemed to be about halfway to the ground from where the coaches stopped.

It took us 10 mins from the twelve pins to the ground.
On a side note, how good was the atmosphere inside that pub? We almost blew the roof off.

You think they should have taken down the old Highbury entrance, now offices, to accommodate a car parking? I actually think the. Way they've transformed the old ground is a superb gesture to the old ground! (Sorry if I interpreted that wrong).

It was a hell of a walk and I lost a few pounds that night I think! It was actually quite old school walking through back streets. That said I wasn't on the official coaches so not sure if people had to walk as far as we did to Frinsby Park.

It was a trek from Finsbury Park to the ground. I was amazed that the coach driver said that the coach would leave at 10:00 only half an hour after the final whistle, forgetting that for some, this walk was going to be at least 45 minutes. I practically RAN from the Emirates back to coach through fear of missing it. (AND I DON'T RUN), stopping only for a savaloy and some saltless and vinegarless chips from a corner chippy near the old Highbury. I got back to the coach at 9:55 pissing with sweat and dismayed to find that I needn't' have bothered as the coach didn't leave until 10:30. The coach fiasco was the only thing that marred a brilliant evening out. I hope they sort it out for our next big premier league away game. (Should the club survive that long).
