Looks like a thousand or so were sold yesterday.

Would imagine a similar amount might shift today...... a few of the season ticket holders i was with last night, have all got tickets now, after previously saying they weren't going to bother.

So we could be on for 26000 or so, which is a fair effort given the circumstances around it.

Still think we should've given Villa the entire end and assuming they sell 5000, we'd have been looking at a really solid attendance.

Why would you want to give your rival team more tickets?

Always a buzz when you know there's going to be a huge turnout of away fans. Better sense of occasion.

Everyone seems so keen on "matchday experience" and its undoubtedly better when there's a massive away following.

Not really a contradiction "special" and "affordable" answer two different questions. Special explains why people want to be there. Price determines whether they can. With the overall costs increase this season and the start we have had i think a few have decided they can't justify the cost. That said I am hoping as many who realistically can will buy up as many remaining tickets as possible today.

Long gone are the days of people buying up cup tickets with no intention of going just to get the points.

There will 100% be people who can’t afford it and couldn’t have even if it was £20-25. Also late kick off mid week makes it tricky for those with kids or those that have to travel. There’s also some pretending it’s too much cos they can’t be arsed because we’ve lost some games though

Blackburn hardly had any fans that night

If we need 5000 Villa for a decent atmosphere is baffling

I think another consideration is that making the tickets quite cheap makes it more likely people would buy them for the points and not go. So even though it'd be 'sold out' there'd be huge gaps in the stadium from the no-shows.

Make it a bit more expensive and at least the people buying the ticket are actually going to go.

This is just a myth. Even the game at Millwall the vast majority turned up. That's a 30 ponit game in SE London on a Tuesday. For a home game the numbers would be small, and even then it's perfectly feasible for us to deduct points for non scanned tickets. I would rather have had tickets that are priced for the league cup 3rd round and a full ground (less a couple of hundred no shows), than 6000 empty seats and higher priced tickets.

Does anyone know if the ticket office line has a policy to cut off your call when being on hold for 45 minutes ? Been trying to speak with them since 09:30 and the line has been disconnected on 2 occasions now at dead on 45 minutes.

With the announcement of STs being able to buy 4 extra tickets I think people are trying to move seats to sit in bigger groups, I suspect this has caused the office staff to become beyond busy.

Also Aston Villa as well. They had to agree the prices between the 2 clubs. And look what they charge their own fans in the Champions League.

Even if they're not struggling, when you have a team that's not started well, just had summer holidays, season tickets and shirts etc, to then charge a premium price on a school night, with the game on tv, for what will essentially be reserve/fringe players and in the third round of the cup against a team we will play twice more this season, it's easy to see why some have chosen not to commit. It is entertainment, it is a choice and people have a certain amount of disposable income and it doesn't feel like value. We're going and I hope plenty do because the team need us, but I won't criticise anyone for making a different choice.

There is no mystery here. It's one thing to sell 4000 home tickets for a league game at £50. But when you're trying to sell 28,000 from scratch on a Wednesday in a competition that doesn't excite many - you have to incentivise. The fact it is Villa will only raise tickets so much as we have seen. Every other club seems to have realised this and has bottomed out prices. Even clubs like Liverpool with a fanbase of eleventy billion or something. I will cost me around £140 for tonight - i'll pay that because I'm not struggling, some won't and are - there will always be a price point at which some will pause and swerve it.

There does seem to be an element of FOMO kicking in as ticket sales have ramped up quite a lot now.

It's going to be a strange looking crowd, with blocks 19/20/21 being half empty and the blocks either side nearly full.
