I agree with the talent part, but McNulty chose to join a basket case Championship team, and Thomas chose to join A premiership team where he was never going to make a matchday squad. They could have both chosen different teams in which the money would have increased, but their careers not stagnate
McNulty’s career hardly stagnated; we were in League 2 at the time and he went on to play for his country a couple of times after leaving us.

I would suggest it hardly flourished though did it? Playing for a poor Scotland team against Kazakhstan and San Marino doesn't mean that he did not stagnante. I would suggest that he might have been happy with his career and the money made, but I still think if he proved himself for half a year in league one with us he'd have got a much better move.

It is a gamble though

Technically league 1
Had McNulty stayed and had a good season, the question marks over whether or not he can make the jump up to Championship level would’ve been alleviated.

Huge jump up for him, didn’t get any minutes and barring one good loan spell at Hibs, his career has been tailed off since leaving us.

We definitely ‘won’ this transfer, we signed Chaplin who was a better player and we sold him to get Godden. On a side note, I do think Chaplin would’ve been a star for us had we kept him for 2-3 more seasons.

It’s all been and done and we’re in a far better nick for it all.

We had got promotion so we’re in the third division. The only part time team in the National League last season were Tamworth.
We were in League 2 when Mcnulty had his little purple patch and scored 23 league goals (2017-18) which is the 4th tier of English football, (the lowest league you can get to before playing part timers such as Tamworth, as you correctly pointed out)

He basically grabbed the first offer that came along, and sold his career, it went down hill from there on in.
He should have stayed and proved himself in League 1 and then the championship, he'd of continued to improve under Robins (imho) and could of been a very decent player.
Reading was a strange decision, as they were already on the decline, and although they offered more money, his career trajectory was a disaster from there on in.

Instead he ended up bumming his way around the Scotish and Irish leagues.
I hope he made some money out of Reading, but in private, he must surely regret leaving when he did.
He could of been a massive part of our revival, and who knows, could even have partnered Gyokeres in the play off final at Wembley 😍
Instead he was playing for Orange County 🤷‍♂️

To be fair there are worse places in the world to play your trade

Playing for Scotland is a bit embarrassing when you've been used to playing in the English second division.

Especially when they lose 3-0 to Kazakhstan 🤣🤣🤣
I agree with the first 6 words of this
