seems to have taken it well enough, but agree with him all the personal abuse he might/has gotten is awful, fair play for him doing the videos and taking it (seemingly) well

I mean isn’t this whole thing a bit premature. Scoring a goal in a friendly isn’t exactly proving him wrong. I mean ultimately Jodi has to prove he can do it in the league.

I can accept it's more the phrasing though. Objectively, we have a player who's not performed especially well above League 2, who's had two awful injuries... and the game is littered with might-have-beens.

Now, we all want Jodi to be the inspiring story, but concern isn't unwarranted.

What I am pleased to see is the club have shown loyalty, and haven't just cast him aside. I hope both player and club benefit from that.

He’s had a nightmare 2 years, but ultimately, he’s only performed consistently half a season in league 2.

It’s going to be difficult for him to jump and perform at this level. I personally don’t think he’ll be here next season - but I don’t think he’ll be non league. Someone in a lower league will take a punt, as QPR did with George Thomas

I hope he does prove the guy wrong, but I see the point he’s making even if the wording is a bit off

I’d have been happy with I’m concerned jj will have a mountain to climb to have an impact this season but all the best and it’s great to see him back and playing. If that’s what you mean.

The guy is clearly a highly attuned athlete smoking in his video so he’ll know his stuff.Naaaaaaaat!

Don’t get me wrong. I’d love nothing more to see Jones as good as he was in league 2.

I’m glad he’s back, he’ll be an asset if he takes to the league.

By reigniting the whole abuse aspect again.

It appears on the face of it the bloke has a thick skin and has laughed it off, but the club would not know that when doing it.

People have no idea what others are going through, for all we know it could still be a massive front.

how about the club just not comment on it and take the unnecessary risk?

I would have totally understood if Jodi had done it, not saying it’s right, but I would get the temptation to silence his critics and the opportunity to retort.

The club should be better (in my opinion)

This is the thing I don't get the focus being can Jodi Jones get back to what he was in L2, as if in L2 that was the best he was ever going to get and as if he had already hit his ceiling. He was 19/20 years old in L2 and I think he has so much more ability and improvement to show. So the question is can he reach his full potential which we all believed was very very high at the time and I'll say yes he can.

People sending him abuse clearly haven’t understood what was wrong about what he wrote in the first place. But I’m not sure how much blame you can attribute to the official account when all they did was celebrate the goal as an example of the guy being wrong. They didn’t invite people to behave like animals: that’s on those individuals.

He was patchy at best in League One prior to relegation. He has question marks over whether he can step up?

Since then he’s had 2 ACL injuries, and upon first return he didn’t look that confident.

The best comparison is Reiss Allasani. Had all the talent at palace, one big injury later he’s dropped to Dulwich Hamlet.

Jones hasn’t played consistently in 2 years, the level is now so much better and quicker. He’s got a lot of learning to do and quickly

I've always loved people that use the argument that you cant have an opinion on a footballer/on sport as youre not a professional player. Its the biggest bullshit argument of all time imho.
I mean, just look at André Villa-Boas for 1 example. Won the Europa League as well as numerous league titles in various countries as well as managing 2 of the biggest clubs in England. But how? He was never a football player so how can he have an opinion on how football should be played?

This was never about him having an ‘opinion’ on sport. That makes him sound like some sort of measured journalist writing an opinion piece in FourFourTwo. No; this was about him dunking on a person who had terrible luck with injuries, significantly curtailing their career, and then preemptively writing him off. You can say ‘I don’t know if he’ll do well’, but to use an expression like ‘rotting away in non-league’ is just crass.

Granted, you’ll always get idiots writing this kind of nonsense on Twitter, but this guy apparently fancied himself as some sort of podcasting pundit (with the wider reach that goes along with it), and this is not how you start down that track.

Yes but I'll say it for that relegation from L1 he was another year younger, learning the game. It is easy to forget he is only 22 now! We first signed him in Mowbray's season and he would have been 18. He has had 2 ACL injuries yes, but he is coming back and he has as much learning to do as any of our players who haven't played Championship football, there are question marks about every player and can they step up but the one thing Jodi seems to have is hunger and drive. I think he will be a very important player for us and as I said, he is 22, he has so much time.

Most people at the club think he can realise his potential as long as he stays fit
Everyone from the club is pretty pissed off with the guy who put out the original tweet - including the management and coaches

When I went to the kit launch last season I chatted to Mark Robins and one of the things he was really clearly fired up about was protecting the mental health of the young players. He talked about the guy from Love Island who died, and how when he was a young player they didn’t need to worry about social media, but now there’s so much more pressure and scrutiny, and it’s too much to ask of them. I can 100% imagine Mark Robins having seen the original tweet and being absolutely furious.

Like I said before, players get absolute pelters on social media, you don't see man utd or Liverpool retweeting fans opinions of their players, which can be negative in the thousands .. .especially not during friendly football matches which only the other day many argued we can't take seriously...

He was 17 when he signed. He progressed massively over that summer in 2017 and was our best player in L2 before his injury. It's laughable that you compare him to Allasani, they're literally leagues apart as players.

Prior to injury Allasani was Palace’s hottest prospect, whilst in the premier league

I really hope Jones comes back strong. I really do. But it’s a long way from being a consistent league 2 player to championship player.

I reckon he might benefit from time on loan in League one, but to say he was patchy at best prior to relegation is a bit harsh, as he was only 18/19 at the time.

Saying that, I'm quietly confident that should we move to a formation that suits his play, he will come good this season.

I revert back to that, because that was the last time he played at a higher level than league 2.

He was only 18/19 but due to the injuries, his development will have stunted at that point.

As I’ve Previously said, I really hope he kicks on. In League two he was class. But the reality is we’re up against Norwich, Watford, and Derby this season. We’re up against Wayne Rooney - not , Yeovil , Newport and Morecambe with Kevin Ellison

I wouldn't say his comment is laughable at all. Allassani was once tipped to become the next big thing out of Palace's academy and many were confident that he would follow in the footsteps of Zaha and Moses - perhaps even exceed them. I'm sure I read when he signed that at one point in his youth he was considered as the best player in his age group both for Palace and in the England youth set-up as well.

Coming through the ranks he was terribly unlucky though. Glandular fever, combined with a host of other injuries completely stunted his career at Palace, and then to make matters worse he suffered an ACL just before he was set to move to Sheffield Wednesday.

We have no idea really how Jones' career could turn out. He could very well continue on the same trajectory as before or he could end up plummeting down the football pyramid like Allassani. But, for every Allassani or Duncan Watmore there's a Danny Ings or a Callum Wilson so there's no crystal ball for this.

It'll certainly be a tough ask given the league he's starting out in this season, and the amount of time he's had out of the game, but I really hope he succeeds.

It is laughable on the basis that Jones as it stands has played league football for 5 years at this point and made over 100 appearances despite being injured for most of the last 2.5 getting on for 3 years.

Appearances at lower league doesn’t equate to better than top prospect at a premier league club and England set up.

At 18 Jones had made more league appearances than Bellingham has - doesn’t mean he’s better

So why do so many premier league teams loan their players to clubs like ours?
Your Bellingham/Jones analogy is fine but if Bellingham had remained at Birmingham for a few weeks then both of them would have been part of chamionship squads.

Because it’s better than U23 football for competitiveness.

The analogy I used was a bit extreme, but it’s not laughable to compare Jones to Allasani. RA was a top prospect and expected to do great things - but for a massive injury. jones was a lower league diamond and has a similar injury. It is totally feasible that Jones goes the same way.

I want him to do well, but there is a parallel.

Jones has to be mentally prepared, whilst jumping 2 divisions in quality, his development is currently stunted at key league 2 player.

If he come back and shows the same ability, there’s every chance he can be the player that Leeds were after.
