Yeah. Indeed.Exactly, people more concerned about blaming 'the other side' be that the left or the right. And some desperate desire to post who the shooter is or some other information.
How often do we get early 'facts' that turn out to be incorrect but by then it's too late, the outrage has been unleashed.
The algorithm sends people down rabbit holes to reaffirm their views and dismiss alternatives. Democratic politicians in Minnesota were shot dead earlier in the year, and Tim Walz was on the hit list before the killer was apprehended.Its tearing the West apart and no doubt actively ‘encouraged’ by Russia, China, Iran etc
People are just hearing and seeing what they think or believe all the time now, so can’t seem to empathise with other peoples views at all. Throw in the numerous divisions intentionally being sown by both sides over the past 10 years or so, whether that’s race, gender, class etc etc and a total lack of critical thinking (people just accept what they’re seeing/being told) and it’s no surprise we’re becoming more and more polarised
I’m not immune to this by the way and anyone who thinks they are is deluded.

I haven't seriously used Twitter/X since my early 20s, YouTube is about the only social media I browse regularly and I basically never see material from the 'other' side of the political divide. Going outside and talking to real people while realising they actually aren't that different to you is the antidote to this shite.

Which is why it's a bloody good thing that the sniper who tried to kill Trump was a poor shot. I think that really would have set a civil war off.

Throughout history, killing people like him because of their opinions has only strengthened the causes they represented.Oh I agree with all of that.
I struggle to have much sympathy for him because of his views, particularly on guns. But that doesn't mean I think he deserves to be shot.

In our own country we've had both Labour and Conservative MPs killed in broad daylight while trying to do their jobs. Maybe it's a sign that the rhetoric needs turning down on both sides and that we reset our views with the basic acceptance that people want the best for the country but have differing views on how to achieve it.Exactly this. You might not agree with him, but his whole approach was focused around winning the debate properly, around the table. Yet he still ends up getting shot.
If he doesn't survive, anyone that thinks he's not moderate, the guy that comes next is going to surprise some.
What we have seen today is really not the way. I'm glad at least most on here, even with our different range of political views, are in agreement with each other. That's refreshing at least.
