America is about to go off I expect.

Trump getting shot, Kirk getting shot. The bizarre media response to the murder of the Ukranian lady. Amongst many other things.

In all seriousness the best way to describe it is like a pressure cooker. I am honestly expecting a massive reaction to this.

I think most of the west is about ready to explode.

I think the media trying to bury that story should be a real eye opener for everyone. No one would know if it wasn't for social media, it's genuinely horrific and you have to wonder what they wanted to gain from burying it.

No member of the public should need to own a gun, it's a fucked up country that will never change no matter who sits in the white house, even as they watch their friends get shot and their primary age children have to know what to do if a lunatic enters their school intent on mass murder.
Yeah it’s utterly insane, sad and depressing.

I feel like social media is a huge part of the reason society appears to be declining

It absolutely is. I mean, I have seen some screenshots from Reddit for example, since the shooting, and it is disgusting.

The media are also a massive problem. I know there were some arguments over CNN earlier, but I would be pretty confident in saying that there were certain news networks such as this that have been talking wall to wall shit and doing their bit to help brainwash the guy that did the shooting.

Of course the buck stops with him, but even so. The world feels a much better place without our phones, and with the tv off.

Fucking hell I've just seen the footage. Would be almost unbelievable to survive that.

Horrific. America seems well and truly fucked and the rest of the world seems to be racing to catch up.

This is it in a nutshell isn't it. Within literally seconds of any event happening, affecting left or right, people are politicising and trying to make gains from it without a second thought for the victim(s) or their friends & family. People desperate to get explicit and disturbing footage online as fast as possible anywhere they can to whip up outrage while they seek to place blame.

What is the endgame here because the way they're pushing it will end up in a literal civil war. You can't just assume it's a 'civilised' society and therefore can't end up in a state of never ending conflict we see elsewhere.
It's the world we live in and instead of helping people, or showing compassion, the first thought in many people's minds is to whip out their phones and film it, so they can stick it up on social media.

Now being reported the chap arrested wasn't the shooter and he / she may still be on the loose.
Lots of stuff spiralling round, I think most of it is speculative. Can't believe anything anymore. Maybe tomorrow.

Yes it's almost like someone's political views don't necessarily make them good or bad people.

I am friends with people who believe all sorts of things , some right wing things , some left wing things , some people who like to sit on the fence .

I generally dont let their political views effect my relationship with them .. because away from that we have very much in common , such as sports , families , general life etc

Gives me a small insight into what X and similar sites must be like. Echo chambers for different sides of the political divide, each creating safe spaces and fuelling confirmation bias to demonise the other side.

Then it spills over to a place like this and, well, see what happens.

Its tearing the West apart and no doubt actively ‘encouraged’ by Russia, China, Iran etc

People are just hearing and seeing what they think or believe all the time now, so can’t seem to empathise with other peoples views at all. Throw in the numerous divisions intentionally being sown by both sides over the past 10 years or so, whether that’s race, gender, class etc etc and a total lack of critical thinking (people just accept what they’re seeing/being told) and it’s no surprise we’re becoming more and more polarised

I’m not immune to this by the way and anyone who thinks they are is deluded.

*drafted this earlier but didn’t press send. Just seen the news about Charlie Kirk shooting, whatever his political views, horrific.

He's a neo-Nazi.
It’s this kind of [inaccurate] rhetoric that has justified violence against people on the right.

Stop conflating ordinary conservatives as ‘neo-Nazi’. John McDonnell called Reform a ‘proto-fascist’ party and it’s the sign of a proper moron.

Post-edit: I misinterpreted this post!

Yes likewise.

It is particularly galling with the US though, corruption has gripped so much of the political system that its tremendous wealth and resources will never be used for the public good.

Exactly. I would very much describe me as left leaning and wannabe socialist, but I have friends from across the spectrum. It's all about respect at the end of the day.

Just because you disagree with someone, it shouldn't mean you would wish to punch them or see harm come to them in anyway.

There are good people and then there are bad people.

Exactly, people more concerned about blaming 'the other side' be that the left or the right. And some desperate desire to post who the shooter is or some other information.

How often do we get early 'facts' that turn out to be incorrect but by then it's too late, the outrage has been unleashed.

Chilling that Charlie Kirk posted this in April.

Right on cue, so he says bad things so deserves to be shot… What a disgusting opinion to have:
