Zack Polanski was asked about Graham Linehan who tweeted about punching a trans woman ‘in the balls’. He said it was proportionate that he was arrested for that which is just bonkers.

To circle back to Lucy Connolly, what she said was awful but 31 months for a racist tweet when violent criminals, including sex offenders are getting half that is plainly ridiculous. To make this case more egregious is that Ricky Jones, a Labour councillor, was ‘cleared of incitement’ despite calling for the ‘slitting of far-right activists’ throats. Either Ricky Jones and Lucy Connolly are both guilty of incitement or none of them are.

What both of them said was disgusting but, neither deserved prison time imo. It’s hard to bat away the perception that there’s a ‘two tier’ justice system.

One pleaded guilty and one was found not guilty by a jury of their peers don’t fall for the two tier shit

Without getting into the nitty gritty, she was encouraged to plead guilty.

Whichever way you look at things, 31 months sentencing for a nasty racist tweet cannot outweigh sentences being passed to genuinely violent criminals. That is a perverse way to organise your justice system.

That’s a different argument though. Fact is she did it, the evidence was overwhelming. Her sentence was well within the guidelines for her crime, she didn’t even get the maximum sentence that she could have had. Given the weight of evidence against her pleading guilty was good advice evident by the fact she didn’t get the maximum sentence which is normally the reserve of people who plead not guilty despite the weight of evidence against them.

If you’re saying that the sentencing was harsh compared to other crimes then the argument should be that the sentencing guidelines are wrong not that she’s some sort of victim. If you can’t do the time etc

He's going to follow the Corbyn path. Sound appealing to those disenchanted with mid-term govt / parties but when it comes to general elections he's going to nosedive.

He’s not a serious person. He killed whatever credibility he had by saying that Graham Linehan arrest was ‘proportionate’…

Naturally, he’ll be skewered on national TV so quickly retreated to the safe spaces of podcast where we can talk to like minded people.

If he remains in post and the ‘Your Party’ doesn’t get off the ground, Labour might actually hold ‘the left’ of the electorate.

Just to nip briefly back to this, let's not underplay what Linehan tweeted. In essence he said that anyone who comes across a trans women in a women's toilets, should attack them (punch them in the balls), just for being a trans woman - no other justification being required.

That statement would appear to be incitement to violence, a criminal offence.

Whether you like it or not, whether you agree with him or not, is academic. The police have a duty to enforce the law, so arresting him is not in itself a stupid act.

Whether it required five officers is a different matter, but the arrest was wholly legitimate.

The fact he's now claiming it was a joke, after a long history of strident anti-trans hatred and activism, looks a bit pathetic to me. At least the people getting arrested for peacefully holding up placards aren't pretending that they are just doing it as a joke.

Anyway, back to the main story of the day. Trump being outed as a nonce. Let's not forget to keep hanging that around the necks of his fanboys, it's just too much fun to miss.

The thing is with Trump, at least he's doing the majority of things he said he was going to do. He won the election right, isnt the point of a Democracy that you do what the majority wants whether you agree with it or not.

Starmer seems really weak as a leader. Unfortunately it looks like the UK will end up with a Trump like leader in Farage. It cant be be any worse than it is now.

Regarding Linehan it’s totally disproportionate.

JK Rowling has had numerous death threats by trans activists and Muslim groups online.

The only person to my knowledge charged received a non custodial sentence for saying his got a hammer and was going to smash her head with it

Oh good lord, a bloke who buys literally everything Trump says, is accusing other people of being gullible. This is precious beyond rubies.

Fair point though, why wouldn't you trust the word of a man who has already been found in a civil court to be a sexual abuser and profligate liar. Maybe I'm all turned around on this...

Naah... he's a fucking nonce mate, and you're just making excuses. Nonce fanboy. Own it.

With respect to Kamala Harris, she was clearly unable to speak about

Her campaign paid 160k ish to the ‘Call Me Daddy’ podcast to set up a studio for her appearance. Joe Rogan accused the Harris campaign team of messing him about with the location of the podcast and supposedly would only do the interview if they could edit the material and questions predetermined.

Take what you will. I listened to the Trump JRE podcast and whilst Trump would ramble on about stuff and Joe Rogan rarely interrupt/challenge him… he and JD Vance were relatable.

Triggernomentry has had interesting guests on the show but wouldn’t frequent it for every episode.

Steven Bartlett has intriguing characters on his show, there was a debate between Gary Stevenson v Daniel Priestly was good imo.

I’ve listened to some stuff on Novara v occasionally to diversify but it’s not my cup of tea. Plenty of my LW mates like their material.

I don’t usually consume politics via podcasts if I’m honest. I’m much more of a history buff so frequent audiobooks on topics that take my fancy.

Triggernomentry is one of the best ones out there at the moment. They have a lot of variety in their guests from different political corners. I would encourage anyone to view a few episodes.

It doesn't really matter how much you write. If you think Linehan getting arrested, or Lucy Connolly getting banged up for as long as she did is a good thing, then you can't be taken seriously on matters such as this, and probably not anything else that would constitute the real world.

The irony is you both moan about free speech when it doesn't go your way (which is oddly usually regarding some pretty unsavoury figures who hate the UK, or terrorist organisations), but then take stand points like this. It is massive hypocrisy. The country now has a spotlight on us regarding said free speech, and it is clowns like the both of you who have set the standard in why that is the case.
