He actually slowed things down. Under the terms of the Doha agreement negotiated and signed by Trump (which is what Biden is enacting) with the Taliban this should have happened in May of this year. That’s not to say that Biden shouldn’t have seen this unfolding and at least prepared better for the obvious outcome.

Yeah to say Biden accelerated this is basically factually bollocks

I'm not sure how easy it is to foresee an army that is 4 times the size of the Taliban with modern airpower folding with fighting.

I'm not sure how you can foresee the President running away and scuppering a 2 week cease fire?

Not compared to Trumps original exit date which has been mentioned several times was May but appears to have then rushed things through more recently ie I’m not sure there was much/any discussion around timing with allied forces. They’ve both got their prints all over this mess*.

I agree 100% about the Afgan army which cost billions to arm and train folding immediately which is why I said I don’t think Biden expected the speed of things unravelling and also that more of the country needs to maybe want longer term change…we can’t force it on them

*edit - as have a number of others !

He's not accelerated this, his time table for US troops leaving as them leaving on the 31st of August. The reason it is like it is, is the Afghan Army running away.

Yeah, I thought Bidens timetable was by early Sept (before 20th anniversary of 9/11) but troop withdrawal was accelerated. Googled and found articles confirming it US forces to withdraw from Afghanistan before Biden’s deadline

Interesting article in New York Times (from May)

Redirect Notice

Basically they continued with the accelerated withdrawal even though Taliban was advancing and breaching terms of the Trump agreement (probably not a surprise to anyone !). looking at the way it’s panned out, it probably hasn’t made a huge difference to the ultimate outcome ie as soon as US and allies withdrew, the taliban would take over but optically, the scrambling to get people out, putting many more people unnecessarily at risk, could’ve been managed a lot better.

The bigger and far more complex question is once in, whether they/we should’ve continued to stay at some level....potentially for years more. If so, why.

The deadline has been the end of August for a while. If you actually watched the press conference the US mission isn't over

Hmm....so when Holyfield was knocked out, did Trump declare "He's out for the count", or did he say "He's been knocked out, but I demand a recount?"

Depends which state the fight was in. It was either stop the count or keep counting.

I'm so hoping a load of liberals and lefties sign up posting factual information so their accounts get deleted and we can see that 'cancel culture' at work.

he shouldn’t have been removed from social media anyway as it’s a very slippery and dangerous slope - people can make their own minds up about him

They say there will be no censorship. Let's see.

They won't last long if that's the case. They will be kicked of Google and Apple's playstores pretty sharpish.

I bet more people get kicked off this for more spurious reasons than have been off twitter. It's a dangerous and slippery slope that he and his ilk are more than happy to slide down to get rid of anyone with views different to their own.

You do seem obsessed by him.

Are you saying that Trump wasn't putting stuff on there that was completely untrue, or at best so heavily skewed as to be meaningless?

Even his own VP Mike Pence has admitted Trump was talking bollocks.

If anything it's just going to be up against the likes of 4chan as a site for absolute cranks.

They all talk bollocks. Right, left, etc. It is a nightmare. But for once I actually agree with Grendel. It is a very slippery slope to ban people because they don't fit an agenda. If anyone should be cancelled right now it should be Justin Trudeau, but there is a heavy amount of silence. For some he is the right kind of fascism and gets away with it.

I agree with your point, but I bet this site will ban more people for not fitting the agenda than the current social media, claiming they're government or liberal shills on someone's payroll.

Twitter's a private company with its own terms and conditions-I assume you as a businessman wouldn't want the government to interfere with who they allow to use their platform

Doesn't look like they will be at the moment as it seems they forgot to test if the sign up process actually works.

Gonna go the way of all startup social media that’s a reaction to the big ones and either be boring cos it’s an echo chamber, or be full of crap like scat porn and people pretending to be famous people. Either way it’ll fail like all the others. This must be about the fifth Twitter variant (Gab, Gettr, etc) and even if it succeeds Twitter isn’t a viable business in the first place. I think only Facebook with their ad business have made it a profitable venture.

Fake news.

In fact Trump came up with the logo years ago knowing they'd eventually release a social media platform and this company nicked it off them.

He’s amazed the world of IT and Social Media experts because he gets this. Not a lot of people do but he does and that’s amazed everyone. Same when he went go karting. The guy running the track said no professionals, Trump said I’m not a professional, the guy running the track said that’s amazing, you should be a professional.
