It sounds like we need to hope those who think Dinanga and Cashman will be making an impact this season are right.

I’m hoping Believer is trying to throw us off the scent with some dud info. Expecting 3 in today.

I wouldn't be surprised if we brought someone in today, think it would be a good boost if we did ahead of Leamington and then the training camp away in Spain.

But we have got to remember when we announced our signings last year:
1st July - Ben Sheaf
2nd July -Martyn Waghorn
3rd July - Simon Moore
9th July - Gyokeres
13th July - Enobakahre
30th July - Ian Maatsen
13th August- Clarke Salter
31st August - Todd Kane

So the replacements for McCallum and Ostigard both didn't arrive until August.

So there isn't any need to panic at all.

By one week yes, the point is there is no need to panic and the replacements for McCallum and Ostigard weren't signed until in or around or after the season started.

It is a month until the season starts!

I think it's pretty obvious is that this window is more than likely going to be less positive than last summer's.

There's seemingly a lack of budget available due to reasons that have been repeatedly highlighted on various threads on here. Regardless of how many times posters say 'don't panic' that fact isn't really going to change. Even the ITK's aren't sounding particularly enthused.

That being said there are still a number of clubs who have made one signing or less so we're not alone at least.

I’d rather us not sign players for the sake of it. But we do need 4 to improve the squad in my opinion, x 2 CB, x 1 LWB and x 1 CF

But panic happens every single summer, last year it was the same after we lost to Sevilla 4-0, there was concern about Moore and the lack of transfers a year ago. The same arguments would have been advanced about lack of budget etc etc. And yet we improved.

I don't think Robins sounds overtly concerned but accepts the realisation of the challenges we face as we try to shop for players of a certain calibre.

I would panic if Robins were to leave as I think while he is here we will continue to improve.

Hmm, while I'm not bothered now, signing players as or after the season starts is bad practice - doesn't allow players a chance to train gel bond and get used to our style of play, so they're always playing catchup.

It's what Ranson used to do to save us a month's wages, and was always a false economy.

Robins worked a minor miracle and the blistering start helped out big time once the home form tanked. Each season he needs to get more than the sum of the parts and sooner or later he won’t.

It might be a broken record but it’s still true-a change of ownership is sorely needed if we have a wish to remain, never mind compete, in this division in the long run.

Not really as we had a significant increase in revenue from the Ricoh return to supplement the available budget.

However, with our wage bill is now likely at around 100% of turnover, interest/loan repayments to SISU and the EFL outstanding, Ryton pitch improvements made, likely further increases for Robins and Adi, bonuses for players, increases for Hamer and O'Hare that are apparently unsustainable, instalments to pay on Gyokeres and Sheaf and being stuck with high earners who aren't likely to feature regularly or even at all this season, it's clear we're not in a particularly positive position.

This has been repeated time and again yet the 'don't panic' brigade are conveniently ignoring the obvious. It's a bit bizarre.

We've currently got about as much wiggle room in the budget as Matty Godden wedged in the cathedral doing a kit reveal.

Possibly other clubs will know we need to sell one, so can wait it out a little longer in order to push down the price…the longer it takes the more desperate we get?

i) All chairman bought the Daniel Levy handbook over the summer; or
ii) At the price, there are better alternatives than Hamer, if that's the player they want to sell.

I get all that, and obviously as we have progressed we are in turn spending more year on year and there is less finance available to spend, unless we sell a player. And yes having expensive deadwood using up considerable chunk of the budget isn't helpful or ideal at all, that is certainly a frustration.

My point is, Robins says we are trying to bring in players, I believe him, we quite clearly need more players we all agree on that, right now we have no where near the depth (particularly defensively) that we need.

But I'm not ignoring things by not panicking, I just try and maintain positive hope for the forthcoming season. I also accept that Robins has been over achieving and that is why I say without him and Adi I would be concerned. But while they are at the helm I'm not panicking because I think we are capable (assuming we keep 2 of the 3 and add where we need to) of matching what we did last year.

Absolutely - and we've not made a significant sale since McCallum. Don't forget the covid losses either, it's not just the EFL loan. Other clubs are in much worse positions because we're a pretty well run club now. It all points to players leaving, whether it's now or in January something has to give if we want a larger squad and that means the higher earners for obvious reasons.

If we could keep what we have and use the loan market astutely to bolster the defence and squad positions that would be really good, but sadly as others have said it seems like that is still too much given the financial picture.

Sisu could have done this in January when we had a good chance of the playoffs still but they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) invest. There’s a complete lack of ambition from our owners which pisses me off. Robins isn’t going to work miracles forever

So you think signing a couple of loan players would have got us up? We just weren't at the level of the promoted sides. We couldn't afford the standard of player on loan to bridge that gap.

Sisu could afford it, they are an investment firm. As an example Forest utilised the loan market in January and ended up getting promoted.
We were a couple of decent loan signings in positions we were short of players away from being a playoff team, again in my opinion. It wouldn’t have broke the bank bringing in a couple on loan anyway

You wanted to gamble for promotion which wouldn't have happened anyway. Forest are far richer than we are and could afford top end loans. Why waste the loan fees and wages in January on something that wouldn't have happened.

Had we got more games out of Dabo & Godden last season, I reckon we may of sneaked the play offs. We also signed Kane & Bidwell, when had Robins allowed Shipley to cover the left wing back spot for the season, may of allowed us to get in an attacking midfield player. Had we done that I think we would of been closer to the play offs. I like Bidwell, but Maatsen was almost an ever present, and Shipley looked more than capable as back up wing back.
