C'mon lads .
Don't be too cynical It's a really nice gesture.
Obviously the parents are really chuffed but isn't it so typical with kids expecting and getting virtually everything they ask for.
Or maybe he was just shy ,but top effort from Tom, the Club or both IMO.

Yeah, I think he was just a bit embarrassed and didn't know what to say or how to react.

Actually a decent article from the CT rather than their usual clickbait and ‘5 things you didn’t know about Mark Robins’

When Coventry City boss Mark Robins drafted in loan players Jordan Maguire-Drew and Josh Barrett in January it looked like existing personnel might have to make way for the pair.

That appeared to be particularly the case for youngsters Tom Bayliss and Jordan Shipley, both of whom have been occupying the wide midfield roles on a fairly regular basis in recent weeks.

They are central midfielders by trade but with skipper Michael Doyle being partnered by fit-again Liam Kelly , the Academy graduates have been deployed out of position where they have largely been preferred to Category One development players Maguire-Drew and Barrett, from Brighton and Reading respectively – a fact that speaks volumes for how highly the manager thinks of the home-grown duo.

Here, in the first of a two-part look at the club's young talents, Sky Blues development coach Jason Farndon assesses how he thinks Bayliss is doing and explains exactly why he thinks he’s stayed one step ahead of his loan rivals.

The case for Tom Bayliss:
In Bayliss’s case, he’s made an incredible 16 consecutive starts and played the full 90 minutes in all but two, substituted in the last ten minutes against MK Dons in the FA Cup win and just after the hour against Accrington Stanley.

So what’s the secret to last year’s Under-18s captain’s success?

“I think Tom has always been different, in that he’s very athletic and always played a lot of games,” said Farndon.

“He suffered a lot of injuries up until Under-16 and then we consciously tried to change his mentality about his injuries and really drive him.

“And he’s become a really good repeat athlete and I think he is quicker than anyone at the club box-to-box; repeat, repeat, repeat.

“You can see that when he’s got the ball and I think that’s what makes him different.

“He’s slight but powerful and he’ll only grow as well because he’s still a young one, not 19 until April, so there’s still plenty of development in him.

“Tactically he’s excellent as well, and off the pitch he loves football.”

So how has he handled being thrust into the first team picture?

“Tom’s mentality has been great,” said the Under-23s coach, who was in charge of the Under-18s last season.

“We actually got knocked out of the FA Youth Cup against Dunkirk and he was offered a contract the next day because we were really conscious because he stood up to the battle that night, so we really pushed for him to get a contract the day after because he’d put a flag in the ground.

“It wasn’t about his performance but just the way he was.”

He added: “Stepping up was never really a question. He’s got a bit about him and the manager hasn’t looked back since.”

Asked why he thinks Bayliss and Shipley have kept the likes of Maguire-Drew and Barrett out, he said: “The Under-23s isn’t always the greatest spectacle at this level but it’s probably real.

“If you ever watch Cat One Under-23s it’s like watching nice football all the while and it’s not the reality of the game, unfortunately.

“We get to play on League Two pitches while every pitch at Cat One is like a carpet, so it’s a bit more real and so maybe the jump is not so great from our 23s to the first team.

“But our boys just seem to be prepared for the step up, whether that’s just training with the first team etc I don’t know.”(/quote]

Right.
According to Clive who says he's checked Bayliss haa another year to run on his deal .If so I'm wondering how we've all been under the Impression it's a one year.
Now this Is Clive we're talking about who reckoned we were playing Wycombe at home a couple of weeks ago and reckoned our game last Saturday V Swindon was postponed .

I’m 99.99% certain that he’s out of contract at the end of the year.

Well if he is out on contract there has been no news/talks so we can all assume that he has been tapped up and is off to a bigger club higher up the leagues.
If he has a year left then they should of offered him a new one already. How many goal scoring box to box 18year old midfielders are there knocking around?

You can be sure that the club have tried to offer a new contract
Remember Rio Ferdinand basically punting Bayliss on live tv when he made the FA cup draw after our win against Stoke
Ferdinand owns the company who look after Bayliss
I suspect it's a repeat of what happened with George Thomas at the end of last season

I'm sure they have, but he hasn't signed as he has probably been tapped up by a bigger team higher up the leagues. We will get 250k at tribunal for him.

Will we get anything due to his age, even if he is out of contract - can't remember if there was some old rule about if they left before a certain age?

Not really liking the look of using those cases as precedents.
Particularly the example of the West Ham player who dropped down to get his football .
The cost of his development will have increased negligably compared to ours and certainly as a percentage of their overall budget would be significantly less.
The Jump in the signing fee at least double those travelling from the other direction .
Looks a very flawed principle to me .

If Tom Bayliss is to go, hopefully his departure will be softened by the return of a (hopefully) fully recovered Tony Andreu - time will tell.

I’ve seen a lot of Maddison/Bayliss comparisons with some saying Bayliss is better at his age than Maddison was.

Maddison was playing in the league above and in a struggling team. For me, he only showed glimpses there and there over a 90 minute game. A lot of his touches were class though and you could tell he was going to play at a good level eventually.

Bayliss can control and impact a game better IMO. He’s also got a good build to cope with the mans game whereas Maddison looked like a teenager still and was targeted because of that.

It’ll be interesting to see where Bayliss is in 2 years.

Bayliss will move on one day, young player with ability to play higher up the football pyramid and increase his earnings. If we are promoted I think he’ll stay another season or atleast till January if we don’t 50/50 I think. IMO he doesn’t want to do a George Thomas, reserve team football at best, players need the competitive edge of first team football can’t beat it

That’s a really good point about the different experiences of Maddison and Thomas. I think he talks and sounds like he’s got a good head on him.

I’ve followed city for 41 years and although the away game against Notts county wasn’t his best performance you could see this guy could play at the absolute top level.

I absolutely think he is the player with the most potential that I have seen play for city. That’s even taking into account the level we are at.

Big key game cause I think there’s a narrative robins can sell that Bayliss is the player he builds his team around as we progress.

No promotion - definitely leaves for championship
League 1 - for me it’s better than 50/50 he stays as this guy is top top quality and doesnt need the stepping stone the championship afforded Maddison.

When? Well as I say the glimpses against county were of someone who would play international football
