I've been looking at a few bits of research. One around college football (american) in the States, one around the NHL and the NFL and one around the EPL. The biggest impacts seem to be 1) how well are the team doing 2) the quality of players on offer 3) the pricing 4) if it's a special game day (family day, bat day (whatever that is), whatever) though funnily enough the seem to move around depending on the sport and the researcher's methodology. The EPL research was all based around asking fans questions and they claimed price was by far the biggest factor.

So either fans don't know what makes them go to a game (quite possible) or it's different for different types of fans (also possible).

I know for a fact that if the monthly Direct Debit was about, I'd be a season ticket holder right now. I'm not about to go and get a credit card (I'm trying to reduce my debt levels and I don't trust myself to not use it). However, I'd be going on Saturday if my usual match partner was there whatever the cost. However, I also know a lot of people on lower incomes than me and almost to a man they would only go on a free ticket or cheap deal (especially those with kids).

Personally, I'd scrap the free tickets for schools and instead have more offers around full paying adults taking 3-5 U11s to the game. Then deals like "Buy 5 get one free" for the adults to encourage them to bring someone along. Some other deals for students and U18s. Though I'd be tempted to charge full price above about 14 just to stop the numerous chancers we have buying child tickets for adults.

Even better, I'd be refocussing the finances of the club so that we don't have to rely so much on ticket revenue.

Not really no. F&B profits are peanuts. Commercial sponsorship is where the real money is. I'd wager you make more from merchandise than F&B as well.

If the club really wanted to improve income, I still don't see what's stopping them hiring out space somewhere and doing whatever it is they think they can do. Owning a supporters social club near the ground would be a good start.

TV money in the US is I think 60% of turnover for the NFL, pays the wages.

Ticket prices were never such an issue in the season before last when were at the Ricoh - there were some crazy low prices that year as well and it didnt really send the attendances up by much (except for JPT)

I agree if English football wants to break out of this current pricing structure someone needs to "Dortmund" and prove it can work but with our precarious position I wouldnt advocate that is us!

However, if its under 11,000 on Saturday that's pretty worrying. Perhaps if some of those moaning about "cant afford the prices" should not have being queuing up for a £4.50 pint and getting shitfaced in the casino then they may have been able to afford a ticket for this week instead.

There's a lot of guessing about what the crowd will be on Saturday and it may well be higher than some of the very pessimistic forecasts, but even if it is only 10-12k that's a lot more than there would have been at sixfields and gets us back to where we were in 2012/13 so fears of dipping lower than the last season at the Ricoh will be avoided. I may be wrong, but I got some sense that some people need to be persuaded things are going to get better rather than it's just a return to how things were in 2012/13 which was not all that great. Friday was a brilliant night and it's great news about SP's new contract but...the squad still looks thin - is there going to be investment in the team now we're back at the Ricoh; the ticketing problems for last week felt like same old, same old - surely the IT system and shop can work better; it still gets me that from lots of points outside the Ricoh you can't see anything that says CCFC so why not get some more CCFC crests etc up; ridiculously over priced beer inside and long queues for pies; casino is ok but not everyone's choice of venue and not being able to take kids is a big problem; I like the idea of the Trust's gazebo and if they stopped at Byatt's on the way for a few supplies it'd be even better; Labovitch has gone which is good but TF is still there spouting the new stadium nonsense - is it time for TF to go and Seppala to say clearly the Ricoh is our home and we're staying; and the price of tickets is important too, although not the only factor that affects whether people go or not. Talk of peace and reconciliation is all well and good but be needs to be backed up by some practical actions to show we're really moving forward not just returning to how things were pre sixfields

I was there and have attended half a dozen a year (except when at Sixfields) for the last 2 decades. The Gillingham game was great because of the occasion and the atmosphere, but lets face it the game was pretty dull. I can wait until later in year to get my next fix.

Its logical that our fan base diminished during the time at Sixfields, therefore why are we all surprised by the predicted attendance? Also 2 home games in a week does not help.

Think of it as 2 home games in 18 months and it doesn't seem that bad, and one of them was dirt cheap.

You don't think we'd survive if a new ground is built outside Cov though, so we need to market the club more and get people interested.

If the rent is cheap at the Ricoh then even 10,000 attendances should see us compete in League 1, and it would seem that some of the match day income is now given to the club.

But we're there now and we have to make the most of it. We know the fanbase IS there in this city for CCFC. We just need to get people going up to games.

I do find it very frustrating. People moaning like hell cos they couldn't get a ticket last week and now people can't be bothered to go at all to the second game home.

We want this club to be successful we need to get fans into the ground.

Come on Nick us diehards are used to watching some dire football, I will go regardless.
I have been to 3 games this season and Friday was by far the best we have played this season, but it wasn't fantastic football if you are honest.

Too many poor teams in this league some really poor football being played out there.

I now live in Portsmouth, where they are getting minimum home gates of 15K. League 2 football is shite but they nearly lost their team to the abyss.

As for Friday, I've seen many more boring games in the Premier League on TV. I thought it was edge of the seat stuff (baring the obvious quality compared to higher divisions).

The game Friday was awesome for the result and atmosphere and the homecoming. We were lucky to win make no mistake, a better team would of scored 2 maybe 3 IMO. £10 I don't care what anyone says definitely helps. If every league game was £10 then a load more fans would turn up of this I have no doubts so yes ticket price does matter.
