What is it BTW? I called Teacher Pensions the other day to ask what the deal was if I ever went back and they said cos I’ve been out over five years I’d start on the new pension that came in in 2022 but didn’t say what that was.

The employer contribution went up to 27% I think.

They said it was career average rather than final salary as well I think. Not sure if that’s as obvious as it sounds as to what it is.

Whilst I agree with all of this in principle, Its worth pointing out that UK wages are not significantly different to comparable nations.
UK wages are marginally better than France, Spain, Italy & Ireland, whilst marginally worse than Germany & the Benelux nations for example......

What REALLY fucks us Brits up is the cost of living + the overall tax burden....Housing, Rent, Insurance, public transport even the aforementioned shit costa coffee......way way over-priced compared to the other EU nations.

I don't think that's necessarily true, the UK pay is skewed greatly by some very high earners in the city and generally in London and the South East. The rest of the country is basically a low wage economy, 40% of people claiming Universal Credit are in employment.

Similar to Italy where the wealth is in the north and a lot of the south is destitute. Hopefully the UK manages to avoid the same level of brain drain in the long term.

You could well be right, although I'm sure the rural poor in France and Ireland would make the same point regarding the wages in Paris and Dublin for example.
Obviously lots a different factors in different nations, but it is true that the headline figures of average salaries and the national minimum wages are broadly similar.

There’s not really such a thing as affordable housing. If new properties are high end, then logically those moving in are leaving lower end properties open.

Don’t know about Italy, but our problem here is we just stopped building anything about 50 years ago. Transport, infrastructure like reservoirs, and housing, all ground to a halt.

You’ve got local councillors in London Zone 1 complaining about flats that’s are too tall. In central London!! And that’s the norm.

We just need to build a lot more houses. Like in the millions. Our stock is poor quality and we have one of the lowest empty property percentages in Europe. And we need to start telling angry groups of boomers to fuck off and that they world doesn’t run around preserving their property prices and ensuring the landscape looks the same as it did when they were a kid.

Used to be relatively easy if you were both working to afford your first house. Ok this was 40 years ago!
Now it’s virtually impossible.

The king’s unshakable determination got him through his darkest moments.

Easier when you have the best surgeons money can buy who crack on with the problem straight away rather than average Jack who waits for months to hopefully see a doctor now and again.

A massive employer contribution, at a point when salaries are an issue
I wonder if teachers would be prepared to reduce the employer contribution by 20% for a 20% pay rise - I guess it depends where people are in their lives

20% increase in salary costs more for an employer than a pension contribution of 20% as an employer will need to pay NICs on top and pay a proportionate increase in pension contributions?

Thought that was a chavvy Russian thing, myself.
That guy on YouTube (Bankrupt and Bald) did a parody of Russian youths, during his tour of the former USSR; they all wear them like that, apparently.

It’s pretty common in Italy, I do it myself during the summer on the beach. I think it’s also to guard against pickpockets in larger cities.

I kind of get it when on the beach.

Not walking down the road or going to the pub in the UK though.

In the last 440 pages, someone may have already said this, or I hate the matchday experience more than others, but people who congregate right in the middle of the concourse at the end of the game.

I understand people meeting up, but please do so in the 400 miles squared worth of space at the side of the concourse so I can go home unimpeded, especially after a defeat!

What’s with the new bottle caps? Which were perfectly fine, now they have a bit which leave them attached and just get in the way?? Really really annoying

Yeah, apparently it's to aid in recycling, as the lid needs to stay together with the rest of the bottle.

Definitely not good at the football, though, as they rip them off leaving a bit of plastic that you need to navigate when drinking to ensure it doesn't gouge into your face!

Apparently you’re supposed to recycle the lid with the bottle. EU law. And (Brexiters time for earmuffs) because we aren’t a big enough market to justify a special manufacturing process just for us we get it too.

Baking to death in direct sunlight/29 degree heat on the A465, behind a construction vehicle doing 14mph in a 40 zone for 4 miles (there was literally 40 cars behind him), and then finding the M4 rammed like a fajita later on. I was ready to pull someone’s head off by the time I got home.

I’m going the nice way to Merthyr Tydfil from now on, over the Brecon Beacons.

The Heads of the Valleys road (A465) is a disaster zone from start to finish. Even the bit they finished before the EU money dried up has a 50 limit on a perfectly good, virtually empty, two-lane dual carriageway, for some bizarre reason (at least it isn't in the Welsh blanket 20 zone). And the bit they haven't finished around Brynmawr is like the surface of the f*cking moon!! I think they must have appointed the same contractor as the one supposedly "working" on the Stoneleigh junction! Clowns!
