I'm with you on postal fees.
I needed to post an important letter to my Uncle in Scotland last week. All I wanted was to drop the letter off in a box at the bottom of my street in Bournemouth on Tuesday afternoon, have it collected and driven it to the sorting office in the town centre, and then passed on to someone who would take it to the airport for me. I then needed it to be flown to Glasgow airport, on to the sorting office, then back to the airport, onto another plane, across to the Hebrides, taken to the local post office, and then delivered by hand to my Uncle Fred on Wednesday morning.
And the robbing bastards wanted 79p for that!

yes, but he also called it a 'customs fee' earlier on in the post, , so I used the same artistic licence.

I work in customer service/sales management and have done for 10 years. The public...are fucking horrible, entitled bastards. I honestly, 100% believe this is down to social media. People having a platform to be aggressive, nasty, lie and such all behind the keyboard.

Reading some stuff in the media recently has proven my mindset to be right. Everyone wants something for nothing and no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions and it FUCKS me off.

I saw two stories today. One guy sees a box of Weetabix on the shelf in Tesco which are one year out of date. Now obviously, someone, probably some poor sod on a low wage hasn't been turning his stock and maybe this is a slow moving line so it's been sat at the back for months. As wrong as that is, why has the person who found it gone to the papers? Because they want SOMETHING from Tesco. It's not like they ate it and got sick? Why not just pick it up and pass it to staff so they can rectify it? Problem solved.

Another story. Someone parks in a no waiting zone at an airport. Gets ticket in the post. Goes to the papers and says its an outrage as he was "only asking for directions and is disabled" Right, so the signs that say no parking...which you ignored and then the cameras are supposed to know you were just asking directions? Oh fuck off. Whether you agree that the fines are harsh they're their for all.

Fuck off. Always the same type of people in this type of shit. Picture in paper MAXIMUM compensation face for their own fuck ups.

One the other week, missed his flight because the gate closed and they missed a trip to Disney. Apparently there werent enough signs? They go to the papers and to the airports credit they basically told the paper that its their own fucking fault...over 1000 screens in the lounge?

Really fucks me off. Vermin. Especially when its a small business !!

Consumers know that petulant and abusive behaviour will get them better service. I don't know if it all stems from "the customer is always right" but the average person would happily roast staff if they thought they'd get their way. I lost all hope in humanity when I worked in a call centre when I was a student. It was almost constant abuse that ended with the tosser saying "I know it's not your fault mate".

People actually think they're getting one over on some giant company because they verbally assaulted someone on minimum wage that works for the company.

This new trend of telling tales to the media is just another head added to an ugly animal.

Add to that people who get days / weeks off for Xmas who like to keep reminding everyone about it. Not fun when you only get Xmas Day and Boxing Day off. Must be worse for those that don't even get those two days off.

All week I've had people going, 'last day today, not back until 6th January'. Lucky you.

Was just going to post that!

How many houses were in Finham pre-1930's? All the same arguments they're making would have appleid back then.

They're all moaning about the traffic but if you have a quick walk around there's numerous houses with 3 or 4 cars! Then they moan about having a train station despite the fact the existing train line literally passes where the new houses will be built. They're also moaning about bus lanes. How did they think people are going to travel if its not car, bus or train?

Moan that the roads won't be able to cope then object to an application to improve the roads.

Looking at the age of a lot of them they won't be here to see the changes anyway.

Customs fees, its a massive scam. You can't get your package without paying it and then you have zero chance of getting a refund when they have messed up and charged way to much. Another one this week. Nearly £20 customs fee for a $4.99 book.

And why is the admin charge so high. `What salaries are Royal Mail staff on???

it is a scam. I got charged £27 last week for something I ordered from the USA.. it cost me £65 plus £22 for delivery... so where they got £27 from I don’t know. Included a “handling fee”.

Gotten is perfectly good English. It's the past participle of get.

From Grammarist:
That gotten is primarily used in North America has given rise to the mistaken belief that it is American in origin and hence new and inferior. But gotten is in fact an old form, predating the United States and Canada by several centuries. It fell out of favor in British English by the 18th century, but it was eventually picked up again on the other side of the Atlantic, perhaps by analogy with forgotten.

The vehemence of some Britons’ scorn for gotten likely has to do with the fact that it has gained ground in British English over the last couple of decades. Many English speakers from outside North America resist the encroachment of so-called Americanisms (many of which, like gotten, are not actually American in origin) on their versions of English, and, for mysterious reasons, some feel especially strongly about gotten.

Precisely - it fell out of favoUr in British English by the 18th century - around the time British rule fell out of favour with the Americans. So you can keep your "gotten", thanks!

No but I used to live around there so have been following it. It’s incredible.

It’s the same round eastern Green. My house was literally built on green belt farmland. The fact it was 50 plus years ago should be irrelevant.

i got my own back at the weekend when buying a couple of 'fake shits' as stocking fillers for my kids.
not a single word from the cashier as she picked them up, one at a time, and scanned their barcodes through the scanner. I was watching her closely as she did it, and noticed a look of absolute disgust on her face.
