I’m just really not following how anyone can suggest an elbow to the face is not a foul. I’ve seen people on here saying it, I’ve heard the commentator and now the pundits saying it’s not a foul because he’s protecting the ball.

It’s a literal elbow in his face. You see far more innocuous ones than that given. I’m not saying it’s deliberate or a sending off, but it’s as clear a foul as you’ll see.

Never a foul. It was brainless defending trying to buy a free kick and it cost us the game. To be honest he was poor all night.

Didn't think it was foul. Thought it was weak defending, tbf.

I'd be raging if we'd have scored that and it was ruled out.

He played on for a second and then went down. That did it for him. It looked to me like play acting even though he was elbowed. Ultimately wasn't strong enough in all probability. Regardless, it is time for KKH.

Probably agree with this. Playing on did him no favours and my first reaction was he’d been out muscled.

Law 12. A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences:
...
  • impedes an opponent with contact
A foul is a foul 🤷🏼‍♂️

His elbow literally goes up into his face. I’m surprised it’s not a red let alone not a foul. They bottled it while trying all they could to rule out ours.

Not a foul. Milan needs to toughen up. Can't stop defending on the edge of our box because you got an accidental hurty face.

Worse than the ref not giving it var not saying it’s a foul and then so called experts saying an accidental elbow isn’t a foul just madness

Why do people keep saying accidental?

If I slide in for the ball and mistime it it’s still a foul? It’s not handball intent is irrelevant.
Van Ewijk didn’t know he would 100% get a free kick. Therefore he should just play on. Whether or not it’s a free kick is irrelevant. As a defender just stopping is the last thing you do. It was incredibly poor and was the turning point in the game

What? Were debating if it was a free kick how is whether it was a free kick irrelevant?

People just say any old shit online man.

He wasn't trying to buy a free kick just got too tight and got turned, he did get an elbow in the face and then a hand off but I'd have been frustrated had we had that goal disallowed if it was us.

Exactly , it’s a coming together .

I would have said elbow to the face fair cop

He wasn't even trying for the foul, he genuinely in that moment bottled out of trying to stop the man. And that is the problem. Hes not a fighter, Milan, he's too soft

In the moment and after watching the replay they rushed through on Sky I was 50/50.

From this angle, I’m also firmly in the ‘it’s a foul’ category.

His arm goes up - I don’t think he means the elbow, it’s to try and hold off MVE - but he’s misjudged it and it’s definitely a foul, whether it’s accidental or not is moot.

Not a foul, he shouldn’t of acted like a baby and went down. Carry on, he was terrible all game.

I love MVE but the jury’s out on him in the Premier League. Shaky start from him overall.

For me it’s accidental
Wtaf does that mean from someone who should know what he’s talking about

More compelling from that angle it has to be said
