Facebook has just pushed a clip at me, which I assume is from Doug's radio interview yesterday. He mentions investment in the CBS arena: great location, council will support, trains, becoming a must-play venue for music.

Could the rhetoric from 25 years ago finally come to fruition? Maybe not literally a sliding pitch but the same vibe.

I suspect the hotel and parking also holds it back. The NEC being up the road means we would miss out on major opportunities with the current setup

It looks like it was originally designed to be a multi purpose stadium which was probably a council idea because of the considerable gap from the goalposts to the stands. Other grounds have lowered the pitch and this would also add to the capacity, not sure whether it's possible at The CBS

That's why every fans forum i ask @Sky Blue Pete to question Doug on updates for conversations on the trains. It's not just important for the match days but also the stadium in general. I've always driven to the arena but last game i braved stopping at my mums and trying the train from Kenilworth, personally for me it was fine, Kenilworth to the arena in 15 mins, but when we got to Cov they couldn't even fit all the people waiting on the platform on the train ffs, its not good enough. I just thought what are those poor fuckers going to do exactly? It needs more trains and more carriages. Once the service is better there should be upgrades at the Arena station itself too, at least some decent shelter, toilets and a coffee shop or something.

They might. I always believed that the conflict with SISU was partially because SISU were arses trying to reap where they did not sow and partially ideological as our Labour Council doesn't like hedge funds. I guess they don't like successful businessmen either but may bite their tongues with one who has already invested himself and succeeded.

Same when I fly in (look at me). It is a drag having to get taxi's. I don't mind waiting in the casino after and having a debrief of the game, but logistically it is annoying.

You've got a train line right next to a football stadium. Fucking sort it out. Whoever was involved in that mess needs sacking as well!

You then strip out a good chunk of matchday traffic to go with it.

Beers in the stand not for me, you've seen what it is like when England score a goal at a tournament, too many try hards throwing their pints in the air, you would leave every ground stinking of stale Carling

The second one, and more pertinent in my view, is that I bet 95%+ of the people who use the train to get to the game don’t buy a ticket. The train company will look at their passenger data and say “well, we have 14 paying customers using it so 2 carriages is fine” when practically we all know it isn’t. My hunch is that we’ll see the cost of train tickets rolled into the match ticket costs somehow and the club will effectively subsidise the running of a proper service. You then strip out a good chunk of matchday traffic to go with it.

I'm sure the civilised folk from the Leamington/Kenilworth end pay but you might be right on the ruffians coming from the Nuneaton/Bedworth side. 100% barrier jumpers!

Not a glamorous idea by any stretch but I would like to see a bridge installed about the midpoint of east stand going over the train tracks. Would massively ease congestion leaving the stadium with additional entry/exit points. Brings nothing to the club other than convenience for 15 mins every 2 weeks, so I doubt it'll ever happen.

The trains are a shambles, Main station is about a 10 mins walk but we choose to drive as I'm not waiting an hour after to catch a train which may not even turn up and if it does, won't have the capacity for everyone waiting.

Isn't the marked pitch shorter than it used to be? It looked to me like we fell in with rugby pitch dimensions when we returned, as I don't remember the gap being that big in the past.

Looks about the same from old pics on Google. They've put in a green track/fake grass as opposed to a gray track so maybe an illusion?

I was thinking that if we extended the stadium, we would probably go close to the current boundary, and have the entrance point on the other side of the train tracks and then you just walk over once you're in, could create a proper fan village in that area which you need a ticket to enter, but that's years away if it ever happens.

I used to get that train all the time. I would travel from Coventry down to Kent and would go via Leamington Spa, so the exact train that goes past the CBS.

Then when I came back from Kent, my dad was in a care home in Nuneaton, so I would get the same train from Coventry to Nuneaton.

Always only two carriages and a lot of people not paying the fare

They would check tickets, but you would pretty much only get caught doing the whole journey

If you were going just a couple of stops or so, so many wouldn't pay.

It's the same down here in Kent where there are stations without ticket barriers

I agree, the beer in stadiums is great in Europe. The lack of beer in the stands has created a binge drinking culture pre/post match as people get tanked up for the game.
