It is extremely unlikely to ever happen for the simple reason that the Super Bowl will only ever be played at an early evening time slot on the east coast, and you wouldn’t be able to stage an event that large that doesn’t start until almost midnight.

That being said, of all the NFL games in any given season, the Super Bowl would probably be the one game that American fans would be least bothered to see go overseas, given that it’s always held in a different city every year anyway.

I flew out to Nashville on Monday afternoon and there were a good few Yanks on board who were returning having just flown over for the game.

I was listening to them chatting to each other when we were getting off the plane and it just doesn’t phase them!

There is none of the tribalism or history connected to their teams that we have. They are used to franchise sports teams moving around the country and most of all they get the monetising side of sport which we just don’t!

Regardless of what we think, the Yanks see sports teams in a completely different way to us.

When we formed, there were Major League Baseball teams that had already been in operation for more than a decade.

American sports are consumed with history. They fawn over past players and teams with Halls of Fame, retired numbers etc in ways that football has only started to copy relatively recently.

Think there's far more chance of that than the Super Bowl tbh. Khan seems to be actively working to bring Wrestlemania to London.

Can't see the Super Bowl ever happening here. Bad enough we have regular season games. I can kind of understand NBA, MLB and NHL having regular season games here. Those leagues have 41, 81 and 41 home game respectively. The number of full season ticket holders tends to be pretty low as they are insanely expensive.

NFL is a whole different thing, its 8 or 9 games a season at home. Not really sure we should be taking regular season games here unless they want to take the plunge and actually have a London based team which has been rumoured in the past. Certainly shouldn't be looking at taking play off games or the Super Bowl itself.

As for the 'imagine if it was the FA Cup' I can 100% see the FA coming up with the idea of having the FA Cup final in the US or Saudi.

That’s more about americas deification of the individual though and their celebrity culture than a fan culture. The celebrate greatness, but the fan culture and rivalry isn’t on the same level come on. Just the nature of the country’s geography means that.

It’s already happening in football - Uefa 'reluctantly' approves La Liga & Serie A games to be played abroad - it won’t be long until PL teams do it as well.

Don't forget though the NFL went from 16 regular season games to 17, so all of these overseas games at Tottenham and in Ireland / Germany etc are an extra,. Arguably it's only to generate worldwide interest and more revenue, but the local fans don't lose out. I can see it happening with the Premier League and a game week 39 where there is an extra round of fixtures that are played across America and Asia. Most likely will start with a trial of something like Birmingham v Wrexham then it's a slippery slope.

I’m not sure how having a hall of fame is tribalism. UK and Euro football is like it is because it’s a small densely packed continent with thousands of years of history behind all the interrelations. The US is just nothing like that. The entire sports culture is different.

I’m not sure any US rivalries do go that deep, but I never claimed they did!

There are very few sporting rivalries anywhere that aren’t mostly modern constructions these days anyway imo (which is fine)

Friends has it's moments (mostly around Chandler), but the US, even their remakes, aren't even close to UK comedy. Really don't find any of their other sitcoms funny, not even the revered Cheers etc.

Porridge, Inbetweeners, After Life, Phoenix Nights, Blackadder (apart from first series) would be my top 5. Friends possibly squeezes into the top 10.

Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers, Vicar of Dibley, Rising Damp would all see Friends out of the top 10. My favourite US comedy series was Soap from late 70s/early 80s
