We're still 7th. Are still very much in the mix for promotion in very difficult circumstances. You keep banging on about the 20% win ratio in the last ten, but within those ten games were Ipswich at home, Sunderland away, Rotherham away and Peterborough away. None of which are games I would be expecting us to win.

In 3 of those 4 games it could be argued that our finishing inability and Robins game management cost us victory.

As I said in a previous threat I’m not one for Robins out, but the lack of away wins and constant “we were a finisher away from beating these” is getting frustrating.

In a results business the book ultimately stops with the manager. We’re in danger of throwing away a great season

So do you think we have that finisher at the club and it's wrong tactics or do you think we need a new one? and if so should MR be given the chance to find him.

We need a new striker (or two). But this time we need one that actually suits our style of play.

Any criticism of what robins had achieved under the circumstances he finds himself in is harsh

I don’t know to be honest - Godden shows flashes, but bar the Tranmere game we’re hardly getting the call to him. Usually he looks on the money.

Not sure what’s happened to Hiwula. There’s a serious issue there - look back at the Bolton game and just before the Bakayoko “offside” Hiwula passes inside the 6 yard box - why hasn’t he shot?

Robins has enough in the bank to have time, but like I said he has to come up with something. Games we threw away we should be up there with Wycombe.

I believe that what he’s done for us has earned him sometime, but St Andrews is hardly Northampton. The players will only be minor inconvenienced

Because you can still discuss his failure to do certain things and still want to win every game.

I haven't believed he has had much of an ability to change things during the game since he was here.

It's stubbornness when things are obviously not working

It's not just during the game that he is reluctant to change things. After the Tuesday game away to Ipswich, Robins said that we allowed them back into the game because some of our players were completely knackered after playing with very high intensity in the first half. For the Shrewsbury game I was therefore expecting a couple of changes to rotate the squad and allow the tiredest players some extra recovery time. Personally, I definitely would have brought Mason in for McCallum and would have brought Westbrooke in for one of the mid-fielders, but couldn't make up my mind which one. I was therefore quite surprised to see Robins had selected an unchanged side. Having made this error he compounded it, by not changing the formation and by delaying the final 2 substitutions until the 92nd minute. What was the point of that? I believe that if Robins was not so stubborn and resistant to change he'd be a much better manager. After the Shrews match he did say something about learning from mistakes - hopefully that applies to him as well as the players.

Then it was an absurd analogy so why use it? I have put forward several coherent arguments regarding Robins management

You have mentioned the most successful manager in world football and believe this is a fitting analogy - you then laughably question my intellect and have in defence of Robins tub thinking rhetoric with zero statistical analysis

The point being made was that even the best manager in the world has spells where their team struggles. I wasn’t saying Robins was as good as Pep Guardiola ffs. Keep up, grandad.

I can’t be held responsible for the fact you’re too dim to understand my point. It doesn’t make it an incoherent argument. No, Mark Robins isn’t my dad, he’s the manager of CCFC that has got us promotion from league 2 and put us right in the mix for promotion to the championship. You’re the one shitting yourself because we lost a game last weekend and you’re calling other people emotional. I’m very balanced, it’s a long season and one which I’m really enjoying.

What was the successful analogy I didn’t understand by the way?

Observations about Robins:
(1) If we are leading at half-time, in the second half he usually tries to protect the lead even if its 1-0 against a vastly inferior team.
(2) Away from home, he is defensive from the beginning with usually one isolated striker up front
(3) He is very slow to react and often makes needed substitutions far too late (like on 90+2 minutes!)
In conclusion, I don't think the strikers are the problem, I think it's Robins tactics.
That would explain why some strikers who have moved on have more success elsewhere.

since the start of last season we've only won 5 games by more than one clear goal.
Something is clearly going wrong.
Are we too cautious - but we usually create a lot of chances.
Lack of investment - we've probably spent more on our forward line than anyone but Peterboro since the start of last season.
Not sure what the answer is but he needs to find it sooner rather than later. It's the last piece of the jigsaw because otherwise things are looking pretty good.

We keep looking at the forwards seeing who we could buy. It's not the individuals, it's the system we play. As someone said on another thread Harry Kane would struggle up front on his own for us.
Look at JCH and Chaplin, they leave CCFC and they start scoring freely, Chaplin in the league above for one of the worst teams at that level. Our system isolates them.
Robins needs to surely see signing a 5 ft 6 player and playing him up top alone (Chaplin) was never going to work in a physical league. Our goals return this season is dire. You could see at the end with Max and Godden they were hunting as a pack anticipating where the ball might be flicked onto. It worried their defenders and pushed us up the pitch.

A remarkable Job? Why? The circumstances that allow him to spend more on forwards since championship relegation?

We're 5th in the table FFS...one win from the autos. Hes one of our most successful managers in our history during arguably the most turbulent period in our history. Other managers have had money to spend on strikers...who paid a million for Eastwood?

G...a lot of people on here dont like you but I've always thought you talk sense. I simply dont get your negativity towards Robin's and the job hes doing here though. Same with Nick. I'm 'on your side' on the normal arguments.

All this negativity towards Robins is insane though. As I said earlier...is he immune for criticism...no? Does he get everything right? No. But we're a basket case of a club with a great shot at automatic promotion this season. CVD said earlier on this thread that we've only won 5 games by more than 1 goal. Who cares...we've still got three points from them.

If he made changes earlier in games, would we have more points...probably. But we're a L1 club with a manager suitable for our level.

If we dont finish top 6, Robin's will have failed. But its halfway through the season and theres nothing to suggest that's not going to happen. Enjoy the ride. And its Xmas FFS! Have a Baileys and cheer up.

I don’t think the job he’s done is ‘remarkable’. Yes he’s done well, yes it’s great to see us progressing. But what’s to say another manager wouldn’t have been able to do the same with the same investment / backing Robins has had?

On the subject of strikers though, it’s definitely an area he needs to improve on.

Overall, I’m pleased with the GK position as it stands. Haven’t seen enough of Wilson to know if our back up if any good but I do like Marosi, even if he does make me shit bricks sometimes!!

Defence is sound enough. Good competition between the CB’s, pleases Dabo is ours and not a loan, and Mason / McCallum provide good competition for the LB slot.

Central Midfield is decent too. I like the look of Allen and look forward to seeing him more. Shipley is decent, although time will tell if he is good enough to step up. Kelly brings experience despite only being 29? Westbrooke is a talent.

Still think our wide players need improving as the current crop of players mean our wing backs offer us more out wide going forward than the midfielders.

But up top, what have we got? I’d still like to see more of Godden / Biamou combo but again Robins seems set in his ways (one of the few criticisms I have of him!) and has reverted back to one up top!

Another concern is he clearly has favourites and if you fall out with him, you are excluded pretty quickly. Just look at Hiwula. Yes he needed resting as he couldn’t find last seasons form, but it’s a fact he was our top scorer last season, most coming from a wide position, where I think we lack this season!
