Longer term, we may want to consider the Wasps/Birmingham training ground.

Blues were planning to move back to their old Wast Hills training ground next year but it looks like they will be remaining in Henley in Arden until their 'Sports Quarter' is built.

Can't use that mate. Wasps hitman said Brum was only temporary because the new Wasps would be using it

Is that before or after they build a 20,000 seater in Kent?

the rumour going round today is that he wants the Higgs. And when he's got it wants to upgrade the facilities to cat 1 including a stand and floodlights so the U23s can play in front of a crowd.

It's a far better facility than what we have now and will likely become empty in the coming years

haha, my thoughts exactly. I got a shrug when I asked how King could afford all this. Although by the time the news had reached our block who knows how many revisions it had gone through. Probably started as something completely different.

What’s wrong with staying at Ryton and just upgrading it.
Is the site too small?

I can see a case where he tries to buy the Connexion back to expand

Someone has cleaned the bottom of the tunnel area where you go to the Tescos site which was more pleasant than the mud there before

Ryton is more local. If we could get the connexion back it would be perfect

Even that would be limited in size.

If we ever make it to the PL and sustained ourselves, I don't think we'd be at Ryton too long.

Yeah compared to other clubs. In an ideal world, the academy is together with the rest of the club.

You’d need to buy the Connexion to expand and that needs a willing seller. But I would guess that is on his list as well.

But King has said before that he likes having Higgs for the academy and Ryton for first team so buying Higgs and upgrading it wouldn’t affect Ryton.

It would be better. The club have said that before. Can't remember if it was Doug or Boddy.

It was one of the supporters forum meetings he said it at I think. It's definitely been reported that he said it.

Why, what's wrong with having it separate. More focus for each set up. Doesn't want the interpretation of too many bodies on site. It seems to work well as it is

The academy players would have access to the better facilities.

I've read what Doug has said a few months ago and find it interesting that he's claiming the Higgs is better for the academy because it's in the community and is 'gritty'. If we're trying to compete with better academies like Birmingham and Villa close by, it probably doesn't help showing kids and families around a community sports centre compared to a fancy training ground.

I'm pretty sure the majority of clubs have the academies based on the club's training ground. Leicester built theirs to incorporate the academy. The likes of St George's Park was built to allow the younger sides and women's teams to be on the same site.

Blues have recently been upgraded to Category 1 status academy wise. We are Cat 2.
A part of that is related to facilities - when they got Cat 1, the media stuff was showing facilities at the "Wasps" EPC that homes Blues now.

As it stands, Villa/Leicester/Blues all Cat 1, we are Cat 2.

We are far behind those clubs. Near impossible to attract new talent.

Good example is that kid from Cov playing for Leicester currently.
