TBH looking at the guidelines the fact he didn’t do that is what’s helped him. He went out looking to scare off specific EDL members he thought were there, not any old white person, so there’s no racial aggravation.

Can you make your mind up about whether sentences for crimes under the Public Order Act are too harsh or too lenient please?

You don’t think preventing ongoing rioting comes under it? Even the Yanks allow for shouting fire in a crowded theatre.

No regard to the context of the post I was responding to, which said there is no such thing as freedom of speech in uk as there is no constitution. I didn’t say it would help her.

Man who attacked Birmingham pub during racial tensions is jailed

Terrified customers barricaded the doors of the Clumsy Swan pub as a mob gathered outside.

OK. I've not seen outrage from people on here about what she did, at least not following the outcome of her appeal. I've seen people question her sentence or her treatment, and I saw people reference the relevant law and sentencing guidelines around it along with transcripts from the case.

If you're saying all things discussed in here should be measured in terms of how people reacted when grooming gangs cases were happening and the inquires that were done, it's gonna be pretty hard to actually have a conversation about anything. Do you see what I'm getting at?

Oh I hear you, but if you have people blowing all their load at this woman's post, it doesn't leave anywhere for them to go when something even worse happens.

A little perspective is required, that's what I'm saying.

They also sing about killing all Tories, a sentiment many on this board share I think. If that isn't hate speech then I'm not quite sure what is, but it would be as ludicrous to lock them up as it was with others for tweets, however abhorrent they might be. In fact as far as I'm aware, nobody actually set fire to the hotel and yet politicians (both Labour and Conservative) have been murdered. Do I think these incited it? Well absolutely not, and that's the point really. Cunts will be cunts and it's like blaming video games or horror movies. They need calling out, cancelling, public shaming etc etc but jail for either offence on either side, when comparable with physical crime is not a great precedent to have now set. The bar is way too low.

Well this band have already been condemned by the late Joe coxs husband for lyrics encouraging to kill MPs

They support the paramilitary IRA and there are calls to ban them from the US and other countries.

The groups title is offensive

They have a history of backing anti British terrorist organisations

This really isn’t the same - I haven’t actually commented on the sentence in the other case

The guy you posted kicked a door, there was nothing about him beating anyone up. The judge says there were people from a range of ethnic backgrounds inside.

Which of their lyrics are about killing all Tories, and which members of this board agree with the sentiment?

I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to
I suppose what I wasn’t saying was the Lucy Connolly case and any arrests charges and convictions relating to this law havent just appeared overnight and are not on Keir Starmer or a Marxist example and I think probably she’s being used by reform and the anti x group

Sorry for not being familiar with their lyrics, I've googled and apparently not a song but on stage have quoted 'kill your local mp' and 'the only good tory is a dead tory'.

On this board if you read the politics thread, particularly around covid, then some of the comments were pretty tasteless
