Not talking about the obvious novelty records.

If I ever hear that most beautiful girl on the world shit by Prince it actually makes me want to cut my ears off. A pile of awful drivel that a 5 year old would write

Mind you I thought he was dogshit anyway

I cannot stand 'Come on Eileen'. Think it is dreadful.

Also cannot stand 'Sex on Fire'. It's his voice I think. My daughter sings it and it sounds quite beautiful, but it's the slide in his voice in the chorus that makes me want to scream. It's the same reason I don't like 'You're Gorgeous' by Babybird. It has that same slidey horrible dirge sound.

Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader. Read an interview in a magazine by the band where each member came across as a complete tosser and it oozes through on this song.

You're Beautiful by James Blunt. In fact anything by he as I find his voice just horrific.

Oh, and I Love your Smile by Shanice. Makes my teeth rot just hearing it.

And anything by Whitney Houston. Definitely the voice in this case. I hate the warbling, show-offey, look what I can do with my voice kind of stuff. Dolly Parton's version of 'I Will Always Love You're is far, far superior.

I hate anyone's voice that goes all over the place like some demented opera singer.

Come on Eileen. Goos call Otis. Can't stand it.
Most stuff by The Clash. Overrated.
Most stuff by the Stones. Ditto.
Rap, Garage or whatever they call it this week. Don't tell me it's different. It's not. It is all shit. And has been since Sugarhill.
The computer generated pop by numbers which every new track seems to be nowadays.

None of today's tracks will stand the test of time.

Totally agree. It's all so safe, all by numbers and all generic.

I just called to say I love you. The thing I hate most about it is that the artist has done so many good songs and then this shit is (I think I’m right in saying) his most successful song ever. In terms of sales, critical acclaim and awards.

I see I'm already late to the party, but just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's shit.
Yeah, but think this is more to do with stuff really getting on your nerves. It is for me anyway.

Sometimes certain songs just irritate you like hell.

Tell you what I hate. Those advert songs where they pick a classic and get a wispy voiced woman to sing the lyrics slowly over an acoustic guitar.

Yep, same here. Just heard it too many times now.

Any song that is overplayed can become an irritation I find, even songs you really love.

I do love Imagine by John Lennon, but have just heard it too many times now, so it loses all potency and impact.

Wish they would play 'Woman is the Nigger of the World' more, but can obviously understand when they don't.

Great record though.

I know a song that'll get on your nerves
Is that by Timmy Mallet? Mark?

You ever heard the 12inch version of Go straight to hell torch
It's a double A side with Should I stay or should I go.

I was lucky to be around during that time. I was 12-15 during the punk/new wave thing. There were many bands I loved back then (and still do): Buzzcocks, X Ray-Spex, Stranglers, 999, Siouxsie, etc but even then i was pretty unimpressed with the Clash. I bought Tommy Gun and that was it. Never really understood the adulation.

I think London Calling is a great album.

Looking back, I can't recall a punk band I didn't like at the time.

I was a fan of the Pistols, Clash, Stranglers, Siouxie, Buzzcocks, Ramones, X Ray Spex, 999, Undertones, Generation X, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Ruts, Damned .... sorry if I have missed some key ones.

I like them all pretty much.

Yeah, I liked Undertones, Gen X, Ruts. I was a little ambivalent about the Damned and the Ramones. Was never bothered about the Pistols either apart from a few singles. I liked a lot of the new wave bands too. Ultravox with John Foxx too were a favourite of mine.

I can't stand Def Leppard. I love rock music but this band shouldn't be called rock/heavy metal, they're a pop group. They were at Monsters of Rock one year and they were crap !
