Post your best solutions the EFL could use to avoid voiding the league if we get to a point where playing isnt an option.

(Thought I'd start a new thread as the other corona virus one had so many different angles being covered)

1. Work out how many games can safely be played then use something akin to the Duckworth-Lewis method used in cricket

2. Mirror results from the corresponding fixture played earlier in the season.

At least this way the system is contextual, not an algorithm and not random.

(added bonus of us doing pretty well I think. Someone do the maths!)

Can't see that being an option, there would be lawsuits from every team in a relegation space.

Cancel playoffs and promote first three like we used to do!

Void the season. Scrap the transfer window for August meaning squads have to remain the same for next season. Then sit back, relax and watch as we go the whole season unbeaten!

I don’t think this one would work out too well for us.

The Shrewsbury game would go down as a loss and we’ve drew with Oxford, Peterborough, Accrington and Burton this season.

We’d get 19 points which would be 76 points

3. (pie in the sky, never gonna happen) get EA or someone to simulate the remaining fixtures. Could make them pay for the PR they'd get and use that to compensate relegated teams.

Could even use Pro gamers to represent each team. Allocated by their rank being matched to teams league position. Air it on TV for all the fans

4. Apparently we are 2-3 weeks behind Italy. 10 games to play. Just play 3ish games a week behind close doors.

Everyone's in the same boat so it would be up to the clubs to manage squads. Would required major rotation and dipping into youth ranks. Maybe even open an emergency loan window if you can't field a certain position, like we have for gks now.

I'm just making this up as I go along but I'm thinking in terms of, if they really can't complete the games over the spring / summer, they could go with no promotions or relegations this season but add the points each team has earned this season to next seasons points. So the end of next season would include this season's points as well. They would need some formula to level up games played this season. Obviously it would be better for us to end the season early and promote / relegate as it stands but I really can't see them doing that.

We would get fucked over even if it's postponed.

O'Hare, Walsh and Giles are only on loans till early May. We would lose them

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think 67 + 19 is 86! Which most are saying would be enough.

Edit: Just as a reference, I quickly did Rotherham’s and they would get 13 points, which would put them on 75. I vote for this way!

The major thing going against us is that voiding the season probably pisses off the least clubs. The teams currently at threat of relegation would be fine with it and the teams battling for the play-offs probably won’t mind too much either as nothing was guaranteed for them anyway. In reality it’s only really us, Liverpool, West Brom, Leeds, Swindon and Crewe, as well as a couple of the Prem teams going for Europe, who would be hugely negatively affected.

In any other scenario you have 7 or so teams going down who will feel like they’ve been wronged, as well as clubs like Fleetwood, Oxford, Sunderland, Wycombe, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Exeter and Cheltenham who can argue that they feasibly might have been promoted without a cancellation.

It should not be cancelled. Behind closed doors is a viable option and games need to be two a week which will take a month given were so close to the end of the season.

Possibly forget the fixture order and just tell clubs they need to work out when they can play their games as soon as possible.

I think we are at the stage now where it’s literally only a game. If ‘behind closed doors’ can be done that’s what they’ll try and do. But if players start getting infected, which they already are, and remember they are only people. It’ll be binned off.

Behind closed doors until the end of the season if possible. If not, what's wrong with just ordering the table on points per game averages? Would just have to make sure everyone's played the same number of games

We've had a great season and I would be frustrated if it was cancelled, suspended, delayed etc

However...

In times like this you have to realise its only a game and theres more on life, like ours and everyone associated with a football club's health.

Best case is every single game is played behind closed doors with free iFollow for season tickets, discounted rate for members and standard fee for everyone else.

Worst case is the season becomes void and we just have to accept it.

It looks highly unlikely that we can do the behind closed doors option. One player confirmed as carrying, whole team in isolation.

That's Chelsea and Arsenal now. Bound sure to be some League One players too.

Postponement now seems the only viable option besides voiding the season.

Postponement for two weeks and then review, I think would be the most sensible way forwards right now.

Ony trouble is, the worst is yet to come with this outbreak.

Concerning.

The fairest thing to do if this escalated is to postpone the season until the authorities have got this under control.

If this action has been taken, and it’s still deemed unsafe to play the games, they should end the season as it is.

Voiding the table shouldn’t be an option, it’s unfair to too many parties, especially when we’ve played over 75% of the fixtures.

Totally agree. I think it is absolute madness for the Premier League and Bundesliga to even be considering such a crazy notion.

If the Euros are going to be delayed until 2021 as expected, that gives some breathing space to complete the season and finish in June.

Next season should then start in September to give teams time for a pre-season, transfers etc and then escalated to finish in May with more mid-week games (4-5 more)

Seems like the worst isn't going to hit us for a couple of months yet though. That happens and it will be impossible to finish the season..

If we could somehow finish the season late (just can't see it personally), my solution would be that next season you have a shortened season.

So, play say 36 games instead of 46 and just have a random selector whereby some teams you only play once rather than twice in the season.

You play all 23 teams once and just 13 teams twice.

As this has been the most enjoyable and entertaining season in my memory, lets have a repeat next year.

(Unless we are aiming to do a Sheffield United and just do a season in the Championship on our way up)

2 months off. Season to run until mid July. 1 month off 1 month pre season. Run next season from mid September cancel the league cup and checkatrade for 1 season

Suspend the season and finish it whenever is possible. Start next season late and claw back the lost time by scrapping the league cup, checkatrade and international friendly breaks. Play WC qualifiers in close batches of multiple games
