Could someone who has all the dates and so on, create a time line of events including when council started to talk to wasps and when we moved to Northampton.

I’m seeing a lot of people on social media still trying to blame the rent strike as the catalyst for it all.

The rent strike was after those emails discussing wasps I think?

That’s how I read it. Yet there are people still trying to blame the rent strike for the sale of the Ricoh. When clearly it was done and dusted before. A full time line of event including emails and so on would be helpful. Maybe one of the journalists who reads this site can make one

Was there ever actually an effective rent strike? There was half a million pounds in the escrow account, 5 - 6 months rent. If you were a tenant with some cash flow problems but had 6 months rent in, say, an ISA - wouldn’t you find a way to us those savings?

They ignore facts on Twitter. Put simply:

Pre March 2012: ACL plan to buy Wasps and detailed discussions had, suspect in 2011 if not before
12th March 2012: Daniel Gidney sent his email about terms he'd discussed with Wasps owners at that time
April 2012: CCFC stop paying rent
August 2012: CCFC and Higgs agree HoT on 50% share of ACL and buying out Yorkshire Bank loan
2012/13: SISU threaten to move club out of Coventry
January 2013: CCC buy out ACL's Yorkshire Bank loan
August 2013: CCFC start the season in Northampton
August 2014: CCFC agree deal to return
5th September 2014: CCFC return on max 4 year tenancy agreed with ACL
October 2014: Wasps agree to buy all shares in ACL, somehow agreeing the terms of the deal in a matter of weeks

I've found the way people get timings mixed up to suit a bit strange. The same as saying "Jon Sharpe would never have worked with SISU" to say about the Butts stuff, which he said after the council had stepped in to try and block / put off his groundshare proposal and weren't too happy with him...

We may as well start congratulating Chris Coleman on his promotion from League 2 while we were at Sixfields.

Yeah, there will be strange accounts on social media saying how it is fake and it didn't happen at all. There's a few of them and has been for years, they are more obvious now though!

Much the same way as half of the things haven't been mentioned in the Telegraph at all.

I see that "lifelong city fan" Andy Google is piping up, he usually gets sent for a bit of PR. Accounts are fine and players aren't leaving being his previous attempts.

The Trust should be all over these emails as they've been misled. Instead they're supine, not willing to engage with facts as it shows their historic naivety.

I'm not saying SISU are without sin, they're certainly not, but they've never been as deliberately misleading as the council have through this story at various stages. You could argue that it is reasonable to expect a higher ethical threshold from a local authority.

The silence again is deafening. If it was something about SISU then there would be news crews, interviews, random articles on football sites, David Conn and Henry Winter would be drafted in etc.

It's a manifestation of denialism. People cherry pick the parts that suit their pre-existing belief and either outright ignore the factual evidence that counters that or where outright denial is impossible, use a technique called minimisation. Justifying the council's action as being a consequence of the rent strike is an example of minimisation. In layman's terms for people who believe SISU are to blame for everything, the council look a lot less cunty if they had to bring Wasps in due to the rent strike rather than it being the plan all along. That then enables people to continue merrily along with their version of the truth.

I don't disagree. I'd still like to know *why* it was the plan however. We currently have the information all from one side, so rather partial. They also probably know that thanks to privacy regulations, CCC won't be able to release any emails to respond and set a context.

(Before I get a rant, I re-iterate I agree with you but, being an academic at heart, I like to see all the evidence before formulating an opinion. It's the same process that stopped me deciding SISU were all at fault come Northampton... so about time I had my allegiance reversed )

I post balance because no one else actually puts a modicum of thought into things.

I wish I wasn’t the only person not frothing at the mouth at the mention of them, but here I am. Someone with a working brain and a vague knowledge of council responsibilities.

Come into a thread about the city centre if you want to see me slating the Council. I just don’t think local authorities are there to put football clubs, especially overly litigious football clubs who have a track record of fucking people over, ahead of social care and the actual legal responsibilities they have.

I’ve got to say, so far when we’ve got past the initial ranty stage, I’ve generally been right at every turn. I remember Nick, Grendel, you and FP telling me years ago how the Council were going to be “found out” and how there was “smoking guns” when we got to court. So far, so much bullshit.

It’s OK though, you can keep being right about football

Is anyone suggesting the club should be put above social care? Pretty sure people are just (rightly) angry that the council have conspired to undermine the club for no logical reason...

It's also how the "social care" line gets thrown about when it comes to the football club. Doesn't matter if the council are pissing away hundreds of thousands on failed concerts or hush money pay offs.

Not to mention things like this - Money paid to housing support firm / EXCLUSIVE: Coventry council pays damages to charitable housing firm after ‘witch-hunt’

He added: “The council managers were ready and willing to throw unlimited resources to pursue non-valid safeguarding issues whilst social workers were under severe pressure with case load.

“On January 5, 2011, the day Daniel had his arm broken by his parent, 12 council officials were holding their thirteenth safeguarding meeting into Open Doors, mostly held in secret, to review and plan the next phase of their campaign against us, an organisation they had previously given a glowing inspection report to, and who a neighbouring authority had described as ‘exemplary’.

Etc Etc Etc. There's only Tony and Schmee on here who dare stand up to you bully boys - so instead of childish name calling - "Theres evidence you fucking pencil dicked simpleton" (Yeah, SURE), take a long hard luck at yourselves and maybe see you are being played by SISU.

No, radio silence.

Then they wonder why people find it strange that the council leader is thanking them for protesting in London against SISU and a bloke from Wasps is being applauded.

There will be something like "we all have jobs and families" as the reason for the silence, the same as there is every other time which is an attempt to generate the "we appreciate what you do" comments that they can like / retweet.

End of the day, both them and the telegraph have failed to even mention particular things and I wouldn't be surprised if they get round to it at a similar time.

If they do, it will be something like "we need to stop the blame game" which means "stop saying things about the council until we just shout SISU again and then we can blame them for everything".

This is pretty much what has been said from the visible board members.

The other one, Fisherbaiter has said it is all lies pretty much.

The reason the council were looking to get wasps in initially would have been on the back of the large amount of money they were making from the football club in Rent, overcharged utilities etc. They'd have thought that they could double the income by getting a premiership rugger team playing on the weeks we were away. Then it all changed and peoples ego's got in the way and it became personal.

It sounds like it was a Daniel Gidney desire to fully utilise the arena (fair enough) but always with CCFC as subservient junior partner. How the council went along with this shit is beyond me.

It is absolutely embarrasing. We organise all these anti-SISU protests, but the moment we've been shown something that strongly implicates the council it's 'I don't care about all that stuff I just want a team to support.' So, you care enough to spend days off protesting against the owners, but you won't read a couple of pages long statement?

It's good to see the way the Telegraph spin stuff works on people still

Wasps were quick releasing a statement countering SISU's statement about being kept out of a Boardroom. Turns out the Ricoh take long term bookings well in advance of both football and rugby fixtures are released and if there is a corporate booking it takes precedence. Surprise surprise even Wasps get locked out. Grasping straws doesn't come into it. Splash the mud around hoping some sticks. We need rid of this festering blob. Well done Wass for countering quickly.

There was a piece in yesterdays telegraph about a review into council practices regarding how its run. It listed bullying and whistle blowing as two of the items that I can recall. maybe things are being looked into there by someone. It certainly seems that the current council have been running things like a group of playground bullies for way too long.
