i think LJC shot his bolt too early and is now looking more foolish than he would care to admit - guarantee that Wilson and Clarke courted by far more clubs than Jeffers currently.....:whistle::whistle:

Nah, just got slated for even suggesting that Jeffers might be a decent player, so when he comes back and scores against us, I feel that the fact I raised the debate is justified. Buzzing with the win and wouldn't swap Clarkey and Callum for anyone, that's not to say that Jeffers won't have a good career and shouldn't have been given a fair crack of the whip at city

I don't wish bad on the player, just don't ever think he'd have made it here with us. Ever.

Indeed, hope he makes it.

But what did he show to suggest he should have been kept on?

I get what you're saying ,but priorities were different then ,managers who just wanted to splash the cash.

Hahahahahahahahaha look who knows his shit you bellends

So shaun jeffers scores his first League goal of the season and 3rd overall and you come out with this immature comment. How many have Callum wilson and Leon Clarke scored this season? Shaun jeffers had his chances at city and never made the grade. Wilson clearly has more potential than him and is showing us what hes all about.

He shown very little. Didn't strike me as a striker, was tried on the winger one pre season (probably because of the bit of pace he had) but that didn't work.

For someone with his height wasn't very good with the ball in the air, or at his feet.

Coming back and screaming 'bellends' as if him scoring against the Coventry City defence is somehow proof we've let a massive talent go is hilarious.

Your initial argument is based on hindsight and guesswork, nothing Jeffers does could justify it.

Is one start against Hartlepool in the league cup a chance? Also was disregarded by Boothroyd because he wasn't 6ft 2 or above, and by Thorn who was one of the worst managers in our history.

Ronnie Moore (A well respected manager) wanted to sign him for Tranmere and Darren Ferguson has signed him for Posh

That is why I would have kept him on as he clearly has potential at the very least

People within a club obviously don't just judge a player by what they do during matches, they see more of them at times we don't (look at Manset). Jeffers was around for years and was let go, Wilson wasn't. That tells you far more than Jeffers scoring a goal.

Did your research and information tell you how long Jeffers was at the club for, and would that suggest that it gave plenty of time to see what the player was like? Was the lack of first team appearances uncovered by your research during that time not another clue at all?

If he does well elsewhere fantastic, but it doesn't somehow change that he clearly didn't do enough here. If anything he'd have been a cheap option to hang on to with our current young squad.

If you don't play first team games you don't develop as a footballer

And if you are not good enough to play for the first team you don't get picked and eventually get released.

Indeed.

Forget which of his loan spells he got returned from early (should do my research eh ;) ) but given he couldn't even get regular first team starts when on loan, why on earth should he with us?!?

If he makes it great, but it still doesn'tmake it the wrong decision to release him!

Thats a strange statement given that Jeffers is 6ft 1, the same height as jukebox and Marlong king......

An inch can make a massive difference. Ask any woman.

'Research and information' clearly means ignoring everything that's been said and just finding some stat on Wikipedia.

And comparing the Wilson apple with the Jeffers pear.

My argument was valid at the end of the day. On the face of it Jeffers showed as much ability and potential as Wilson yet was let go. For Peterborough to sign him shows he has the ability as they sign young players, develop them and sell them on for profit (Aaron McLean, Ryan Bennett, Craig Mackail-Smith and most recently Dwight Gayle are examples of this) I respect the judgement of Darren Ferguson and Barry Fry more so than Pressley atm (Manset and Webster not quite setting the world alight) or any of our 'scouts'

Fact of the matter is that my argument shouldn't have been disregarded as crap, it's a lot more interesting to debate about actual football, than NOPM or Sixfields crap which is ultimately out if our hands

But you've continually ignored the reasoning why his case may differ from Wilson and just cited first-team stats without acknowledging that the several years both were here may have also been a factor in who was let go and who was kept on.

He might succeed at Peterborough, but it's evident that he didn't here and you can't keep renewing the contract just in case. (To use another player as example, Cody McDonald is clearly a more potent striker at Gillingham than here, but it was the right move to send him on too even if he ends up leading the division) Calling people bellends or claiming victory because he's scored some goals is mental, I assume you won't keep bumping the thread to apologise any time he happens to sit a game out or not score.

Tbh with the drivel I read on here the 'bellends' comment was justified

I know my argument was valid, not 100% correct but valid

The Cody Mac situation is completely different to Jeffers, We saw Cody play numerous games and fail to perform, his level is league 2 and you can see that from his waistline

And the people at the club saw Jeffers for years and decided not to keep him in the end. That it wasn't first team football doesn't make that irrelevant, it just reinforces that he wasn't rated good enough to play in the first team anyway.

Shaun Jeffers had potential but he never really showed he could fulfil it, if you want to be annoyed about a young player we have let go be annoyed about JCH.

Fair enough, however if we sign a player who starts one game at the club in a season then we get rid of him, you're more than likely say he wasn't given a fair chance
