I think it’s the size of the occasion(s) is what is affecting him - against both Arsenal and Spurs he looked intimidated and it translated into a nervous performance - goalkeeper is the one position on the field where it’s impossible to hide.

I’d like to see how many of us would cope with the pressure of 60,000+ people watching us at work, plus millions watching from home. 90% of people shit the bed doing a presentation to 10 people…

The national media - and Paddy Power etc - will now be on him too.

GK department is a concern. We've gone from a keeper in the league team of the season to one that wouldn't get into another team in the league. There is no way he doesn't save the 3rd goal last season. It was very weak, nothing to do with levels being higher and not the first since his return. Hopefully he comes good as he aint getting dropped, Bentley isn't a credible alternative and Wilson is not seen as anything more than the warm up guy..

Think its pretty naïve to think this stuff doesn't get through to the players. Does anyone really believe they live their lives entirely offline?

And its not like its contained on here. There's similar comments, probably from some of the same people, on social media, in the comments of the clubs own posts etc.

There's also plenty of examples of people deciding its a good idea to direct message professional athletes in various sports to tell them how shit them are, as well as members of their family.

A few comments in the match thread of 'he could have saved that' or 'he won't be happy with that' is a bit different to a pile on with multiple threads being created within seconds of the final whistle saying we should have never signed him / he's shit / he should be dropped etc.

I do not doubt that he is a goalkeeper of high quality, and no doubt saved us a good number of points last season.

His performances last season did however mask that as a team, we did still concede an average of a goal a game.

Thinking of how Burnley did the previous season conceding so few goals, and were then found out defensively last season, imo it was naive to go into this season with 80% of last season’s back 5.

I personally think we dallied too long getting the deal done, and should possibly have walked away. I would have liked to have seen us go in for Jose Sa from Wolverhampton Wanderers

However we are where we are. He is the number 1 keeper at the club, as would anybody honestly rather have Bentley or Wilson over Rushworth?

As I’ve said already, and I don’t want to come across as some Nostradamus, but he’d never played PL football before and so no one knew how he’d take to it mentally. For that reason I wanted a Mat Ryan or similar on a 12 month deal just whilst we figured it out a bit. Bentley is substandard and that doesn’t help us.
