Is Manchester Marathon really that flat? I'm running around Birmingham and Dudley at the moment and the elevation is crazy. Just done 6.4km short run and the total elevation was 115m
Is it the route that goes out from the edge of the city centre towards Old Trafford? If so, yes it is pretty flat. I think there is a very minor incline on Bridgewater Way but that's about it.

20 miler round Devon hilly lanes and trails this morning. Slowed the pace right down as just wanted to be out on my legs longer. 2 hrs 50 today. Will do a 3 hour faster paced run over Easter then thats me done; marathon ready or not 😆

Ran the Forest Of Dean Trail Half Marathon today.

17 of us had submitted an Expression Of Interest for consideration for the England v40 team. Needed top 6 to qualify.

Ran the first km down the road in about 3:20 and the top 6 were already pulling away.... tried to make a fist of it for a few more miles, holding 6 minute miles (unsustainable for me over a half marathon on the road, let alone a hilly trail course) for 4-5 miles.

At the top of the big hill on 7 miles, i tried to kick back down under 4min/km pace, but i'd burnt the candle too far in the first part of the race.... i knew the top 6 was way beyond me, so without exactly giving up, i just ran it in, coming over the line in 12th in about 1:29

Definitely cost a few minutes by going out so hard, but it was a case of top 6 or bust, so got no regrets.

Was hillier than i remembered on the reccy, and i ruined my road shoes on the rough ground.

Got to try and recover my legs for a more important sub 17-min attempt in the 5km a week on saturday.

Good effort still 👏

A mate of mine ran that race today. He done it in 1.33 and got 5th place qualifier for the V60 team, hes buzzing about it 😀

Brilliant, well done to him.

If i do a half marathon again i'd have to do a lot more continuous longer runs..... been doing big sessions (10 x 1 mile/6mins) which has built me a great engine for 5km and possibly 10km (i was amazed how easy i felt at 18min/5km pace early on today)..... but i suffered today...... i reckon 1:29 on that course is probably worth 1:23-1:24 on the roads, but i'd like better than that from a road HM.

Second race of the year at the weekend - Coniston 14. ( big race to raise money for local charities )

One lap of Lake Coniston on the roads that go around the lake.

I`m a trail runner, but decided to do this one as it`s so scenic.

The weather on Saturday was more like an early Summers day and it seemed pretty much the whole town had turned out for it.

I really liked the way they organised the runners ( 1000 plus ) into three groups, behind three pacers wearing hi vis vests :

Those likely to finish within 2hrs or less.
Those likely to finish within 2hrs 15 mins.
Those likely to finish within 2hrs 30 mins or longer.

That way, there was no bunching and congestion at the start and everyone went off really smoothly.

Due to the weather being so nice and the course being so scenic, I just thought fuck it, I`m not going to kill myself and I`ll just enjoy the beauty of the course and went off with the 2hrs 30 mins group and had a really enjoyable run with no pressure.

This is a race that I`d recommend to runners of all abilities, as there was a lot of serious runners there, but just as many runners of all abilities and ages, who were just there to enjoy running and the beauty of the course. I stayed the weekend with my family and there`s loads of palces to eat and drink, with some seriously good real ale on tap in the local pubs ( ex Champion British Beer - Coniston Bluebird is brewed there )

Plus, I`ve never seen so many cake and pastry stalls at one race !!!!!!!!!!!!!
