Did my first Ultra yesterday. 33 miles of Dartmoor hills and some of the worst weather I've ever raced in. So glad to get it done and get back to 5ks!

That appears on the face of it be a very good time..... i've done quite a few ultras, including a couple with similar stats ( i think 33 miles and perhaps 5000ft, and never got anywhere near that time..... granted they were in winter)

I think i'll have another go next year, i seem to have really slowed down this year and would like to get back to threatening the pb's i set back in about 2020. It's a hilly course but felt like a good challenge when i'd finished. Congrats to your clubmate!

Thanks but I imagine yours were trail whereas this was on Dartmoor roads. I think you're a fair bit quicker than me

Ah right..... yes they were on Yorkshire/Pennine fells.

Terrain/elevation does make such a difference. I did the Coventry Way Ultra (40 miles) in under 7hrs...... then a similar distance (45 miles) on the Lake District fells...... 17.5hrs

My Hoka Clifton 9's have finally died on me, and need a new daily.

What are people running in at the moment.

Loved my Clifton 8s, was looking at the 9s recently.

I do most of my daily stuff in Saucony Ride 17 which I really like.

For anything more uptempo my favourite shoe right now though is Adidas Evo SL, incredible shoe.

I am looking for a more cushioned shoe at the moment, Saucony triumph maybe.

Yes I've heard good things about the Evo SL. Very interesting.

Saucony's are meant to be good. Clifton 9 is fine, just wanted something with a bit more spring.

Heard good things about the Salomon Aero Glide 3 so may try those.

Daily running in Asics Novablasts. Quicker efforts in Adidas Evo SL.

Recommend both very highly, although the Evo SL does not feel as durable as the Novas, so I wouldn’t be using it as a daily runner (unless you have lots of money to burn). I do really enjoying running in the Evo SL though.

I’ll be buying a pair of Adidas Adios Pro 4 if I get a place into London marathon next year.

How much do size up when buying running shoes? My feet seem to swell a lot when running and I end up with pins and needles, so even going up a size isn’t enough.

Got up to running 40-50km a week now…my muscle problem flared up again this week to keep me in check though!

Heard good things about the Novablasts.

Its sounds ridiculous but a lot of my running gear is Nike and dont want to wear adidas shoes with them!

Think its gonna be between the Aero Glides and the Novablasts for me.

How is your running going?

Seem to remember you were low in the 17's for 5km?

Saturday sees me travel up to the Yorkshire Dales to run for Warwickshire in the inter-counties mountain running champs.

Really hard for a "flat" county like Warwickshire to compete against the likes of Cumbria, Yorkshire, North Wales, West Of Scotland, etc.

Last year we had a reasonable team and we were all similar ability, and the in-race rivalry really pushed us on, we even managed to beat "local rivals" Shropshire, which was a bit of a scalp..... as most of our nearest fell races are over there.

This year though we have scraped together a full team at the last minute and it is not quite as strong..... all decent runners.... but at national champs level it will be a real struggle.

Then a fortnight later its the Snowdon Uphill...... then a change in focus to the 5km on the flat for a year or so, to really try and get my time down.

It’s going well now, very much back at it. Had what seemed like 2-3 years of very much minimal running. Ticking over at like 10km per week. But I’ve been consistently back up to circa 60-70km a week now for the last 3 months (would like to do more if time allowed) and I’m very much enjoying it.

Typically doing the following per week:
- one interval session of 6x 800m or 6x 1k
- one tempo run (sort of 5-10km at 4:00/km pace) with a warm up and cool down
- several easier long runs 10km+ with maybe a few pushes thrown in on certain runs

Will scale up the difficulty as I continue to build the base. Aiming to do London marathon next year, so building towards that at the moment with the aim to make the eventual marathon specific training block a bit easier hopefully.

The pace is coming back, hit a 17:47 5km recently.

How is your running going? There’s a Skybluestalk group on strava for anyone interested. It’s not very active!

Nice one....

Yeah its going well.

I had a period of a couple of years where i couldn't break 18mins for 5km, but dropped down to 17:50 last summer, then down to 17:19 in March.

Coming off the fells in a few weeks to spend some substantial time working on my 5km time, with a view to getting it as low as possible in the next year or so. Possibly looking ambitiously towards the minimum qualifying times for the England V40 team if i can make a large improvement.

7th place at a busy Teignmouth Parkrun this morning (19.05ish). Happy with that 7 days after running an Ultra. Ran in the City 2021 3rd top (2 tone)

I was 2nd counter for Warwickshire at the UK Inter-Counties today.

No complaints, i felt i had a decent run, but my team mate just outran me fair and square.

Hope to redress the balance (with interest) at the Snowdon Uphill a week on friday.

Not seen any results yet, but we'll be well down the bottom. The ladies didn't field a full team..... a late injury and another non-runner meant we only had one lady running on the day.
