Does anyone have any idea what sort of pain he would have been in and how disabling the injury to his overall performance?

Rudoni was clearly well enough to perform at an excellent level, but he was likely coping with persistent discomfort and the risk of acute flare-ups throughout the season. For many people, such an injury would be quite debilitating, but professional athletes are often able to compete effectively despite significant pain and intensive treatment.


From ai but does anyone have any genuine knowledge or understanding from experience or their profession?
 
It’s the constant protecting of it, which in turn takes your mind off things and your body is not natural. Heavily tapped every game, ultimately restricts full range which was clear to see when running. Alot if injection and pain killers taken would suspect.

the bump against Leicester at their place flared it all again.
 
Played with that all season and was still absolute quality. Was obviously quite debilitating at one point but he worked his way back to a higher level, didn't stop morons on here slagging him though.
Easily the best player we have on our books atm in my opinion.
 
Definitely disrupted him and didn’t look himself after coming back from other injury (thigh or calf ?) But then seemed to trust himself/body more as season went on and started getting in and around the box more like last season

Think he’ll be another level next season if everything’s sorted ! Excited to see him step up

I know I've seen other players try and play through this type of injury and consistently have issues with it which has ultimately lead to them having it operated on.

Glad he's got it done and out the way
 
He looked like he wasn’t running at full pelt in a lot of games to me as he was trying to protect it.
It was clear that it was causing him problems but makes his stats this year look very good when you consider he played on with it.
 
He said himself there were nights he couldnt sleep due to the pain, so he must have been in some trouble. You could see he was less physical this season and I think he wasnt box crashing as much and instead going wider where there’s less physical contact shoulder to shoulder. Next season we’re gonna see a different proposition with Rudi, I can see 1 season and he’s off to bigger things

To run at full pelt you need both arms pumping away properly (insert your own jokes here), and there were times where he couldn't do that.

He goes through all that and then you get that fella on here who proudly admitted to telling him he was shit in the hospitality lounge.
 
Anyone know what the chances are of it reocurring? Is it one of those surgeries where it returns stronger than before?

After surgery a lot less chance than without surgery, because without surgery it can just pop out randomly from the stupidest things. Post surgery should strengthen it given a good recovery time

It should be as good as new as long as enough rehabilitation is taken.

I had similar years ago. Got recommended to have the op but I have a massive fear of needles. Would be OK for a bit but then my shoulder would dislocate after moving it at certain angles. But to me popping it back in was better than an operation. I'm paying for it now. Stronger than before but I feel it if I move my arm at certain angles.

Utter respect for Rudoni to be able to play professional football with what is a painful injury.

Other than Rushworth, he’s the one player that I have complete confidence will step up next season.

If Lampard did ever leave for someone like Palace, I fully expect he’d be straight in to sign him. A decent season next year and we’ve probably got a £30m asset on our hands.

He's just made for it. Not just the quality (which is the most important bit), but the build, height, heading ability.

The only reason Lampard would leave for Palace is for more money, put Lampard doesn't need the money. 🤔

It won't be about whatever wages the club offer him, it will be about how seriously we 'have a go' this season.

The surgery would actually make it stronger but its a mental block issue cos you are frightened of falling over and dislocating it again.

Not sign a new contract yes. But Lampard has already seen the reality of being a football manager. You're only as good as your last job. He is in a safe job with us. I still say that the job he would leave us for is as England manager which will most probably become available in 2 years. Keep us up and it's his.

Lampard had several offers but waited for the right one. He has an owner that has backed him so far and some very good players in the squad. He has one of the safest manager roles in English football. By the end of his contract we will have had only 2 managers in 10 years. Some clubs have nearly 10 managers in 2 years 😆

He has a great set of players and has said winning the Championship title is up there with his best times as a player. Not bad considering he won everything worth winning at club level. He can't wait to start in the Prem with players like Rudoni.
 
An unstable shoulder is usually most vulnerable in an abducted, externally rotated position (basically up and out with the palm facing forwards). In footballers I'd say this is most important for the physical side of the game rather than running per se, and I'd say that tallies with what we have seen from his performances this year. I'd say he is quite physical for a no 10, but we have seen less of him in terms of holding off players while he runs at goal or challenging aerially in the box - both requiring strength and confidence in that vulnerable shoulder position.

There are a few different surgical options with differing rehab timelines depending on the extent of the injury and which structures are involved e.g. stability can come from just repairing the labrum (the soft tissue around the ball and socket joint) or you can transfer an bone to give a more sturdy end range, but reducing mobility.

I think Watford and Chelsea must have had about 10 managers in 2/3 seasons lol.
