If spending £150m across 3 windows is scraps
Their net spend over those 3 windows is about £25m.

He's got them into Europe and been given nothing to increase the squad size.

Very good manager but he’s not living on scraps ….
Well let me put it like this to you.

If we were to go up, but Doug said to Lampard you can spend the entirety of what you bring in for Haji and Rudoni.

Is that backing the manager as he’s not taking any money out, or is it being tight?

It's probably ones from shit like Saturday social on sky.

People have only used it within the last year or so as a "stat".
OK so if i find discussions on it from longer than a year ago will you admit it’s not a new stat

I mean he's got them into europe and he's just spent what hes raised through sales, not really a backing is it.

You need a bigger squad for Europe, not smaller.
They've spent more recently and are still trying to sign more players this window but that's not my point.

We didn't have a full squad for this season being light in midfield. We sold Sheaf last minute but Lampard didn't go to the press with a comment aimed at those in charge of our club. The strongest he has come out with is mentioning the squad size. That's the way a manager should behave.

Worthy of it's own thread and no surprise to anyone that Frank is looking for a wide player almost immediately

Palace paid Millwall £12m for this time last year

If FL is happy so am I
£14.5M actually. 🤣

Esse was one of our brightest Academy players who played 61 games for us, across all competitions from his debut in late 2022 until his January 2025 transfer to Crystal Palace. He scored six goals, with most of his appearances being in the Championship.

He was a good, skilful player but many times his end result let him down. He would always take on one more defender than he should have, instead of passing the ball to a fellow team player who was in a better position. Maybe Lampard will improve that part of his game, who knows? What I do know is, that as talented as he was (is) at the time of his move to Palace, he wasn’t ready for the Premiership, and it seems that the Palace manager, Glasner, has picked up on that, as Esse hasn’t featured in many games for him. So putting Esse out on loan now has given Glasner one less headache to worry about.

You might want to buy Esse at the end of the season, if he does the business for you and helps you get into the Premiership. Palace will have to take a big transfer loss if they do sell him, but that would be to Coventry’s advantage if Esse can show Lampard that he can make the step up from being a great Championship player, to an exceptional Premiership player.

If he plays against us on Tuesday night I’m sure he’ll get a warm reception from the Millwall fans, even though he’s nothing to us now. He’s a Coventry player till the end of the season and I expect him to do well for you. Esse did us a big favour in signing a new long term contract with us, before Palace showed interest in him. He didn’t have to sign that contract, but I think he did it because he realised how the club had looked after him in all those Academy years, and especially giving him his first chance (of many) in our first 11. He might have also known that he might be sold to a Premiership club, so giving us a long term contract would be his ‘thank you’ to help boost the club’s chances of getting a higher transfer fee.

For that, I and many other Millwall fans will always be eternally grateful for him signing that contract, and I’m sad it hasn’t worked out for him at Palace (even though I’m still laughing at pulling their pants down over them paying our ridiculously high transfer fee) but maybe he can resurrect his career with you and help you get promotion (even though I’d prefer it if he starts to do that after we’ve played you on Tuesday night!) 🤣

You just said they spent 25m above what they brought in. Are you going to disagree with yourself now?

He looked decent last week and yesterday.
His work rate out of possession is a welcome surprise.
He needs to learn when to try one of his many tricks and when to keep it simple buts that's par for the course for a young skillful wide player.

I really like what I've seen of him

So it isn't just spending what they have brought in.

Palace are in debt by about 100m. How much more should they let him spend when he announced in October he is leaving?
OK Let me phrase it like this then for you as you are in an argumentative mood.

If we went up and King said to Lampard.

Frank, I'm gonna give you £10m out of my money, and then anything else comes from the sale of Wright which would be maybe around £15m.

You can keep the rest of the team though.

Is that backing? or is that the bare minimum for a club at that level.

That's why I wanted to see him play straight away. His normal game is covering every blade of grass on the pitch. We've seen what Lampard and his team can do to improve players and Esse has what it takes to make it to the top. If we manage to sign him permanently I'm sure he will become our best player for a lot of years.

Argumentative by pointing out where you've contradicted yourself?

Go get your bites elsewhere.

Similar was true about Jacob Murphy (10 years ago now, Christ). With the right guidance he'll get better at learning when to turn on the flair and when to keep it simple as you say.

It's neither , it's hypothetical

He's got the natural skill and ability of a premier league player, just needs to work on his decision making but he will be brilliant for us this year.

I know you don’t go to games so I’ll keep it simple for you … IF we go up then we will need to invest heavily to bridge the capability gap. Palace are already an established premier club and therefore clubs like Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, etc all have business models that sees player trading at their heart. Very different scenarios.

Last 2 seasons Bournemouth have spent net £200m and £150m so your point makes little to no sense.

Some clubs don't even reinvest all the cash from a sale. What people seem to mean by 'backing' is expecting a tycoon to just gift loads of money on top of what the club earns.
