Not fussed by this defeat sounds like we were well on top second half had the ball in the net three times perhaps young Thomas needs to read the off side rule, just joking. Add more players to what we have hopefully this week and we'll match anyone in this league imo. Looking forward to Saturday in the Lions den another big test.

Thanks to the extra time and penalties, plus the endless road works and the massive diversion thanks to the M62 being completely shut, I got home at 01:30 this morning. Thanks a lot City!

Welcome to the 1987 cup final where #benno7 crosses beautifully for @#kh10 to direct a beautiful #divingheader past the despairing @oldbugger#Clemence

I got home at 12.45, but even though we are out of this cup I think we played well against a decent side and it was a game I enjoyed even though we lost out in the end.
Thought the support was great, looking forward to Saturday at Millwall next.

Email this his morning from the Rochdale fan I know:-
f]what a cracking match.

]I thought we were going to murder you for the first twenty minutes but gradually, especially in the later stages of each half, you imposed yourselves on the game and by the end of normal time we were hanging on. Coventry were a joy to watch and I reckon play-offs look a real possibility. We became dependent on long balls to Vincenti and Calvin Andrew. Tudgay's winner, I hate to admit, should have stood.

]I like the keeper a lot, he made some really good saves.

]I thought our penalties were brilliant. I also loved the second wind we got from nowhere in extra time.

Wonderful way to spend an evening.

Glad I wasn't the only one who #cringed at this I'm not particularly old but there is no need.

I imagine the Telegraph will soon jump aboard this bandwagon and insert into their headlines.

"Fair play to their fans - that must be hideous", in response to a post saying we hadn't finished in a top 6 position for 40-odd years!
It comes to something when we get sympathy from Rochdale fans.....love going to Spotland, will hopefully get there for the league match

Thought the performance was good and we were unlucky not to win the game. It looks like we will have healthy competition between two young keepers. Good all round performance but special mention to two players who fans have been bitching about: Aaaron Martin who put in some good tackles and interceptions and Tudgay who put the ball in the net twice (one ruled out for off side against Thomas).

It shows these two players can be important squad members. I think Martins game will improve under Mowbrey as illustrated by his performance last game of the season at Crawley and this performance at Rochdale. Mowbrey will give him a no frills role and let him concentrate on basic defending.

Everybody in the back 4 looks calmer around Ricketts who has been very impressive so far. Look a better defensive unit, thought Martin was very good last night too.

3 times he put the ball in the net, the other he was offside I think, still controlled it beautifully.

Agree with most of what has been said, thought it was a decent performance.
First 20 mins they had us on the ropes, and should have been leading at half time.
Second half we hammered them and deserved to win over the 90, bad luck to tudgay, having two ruled out, especially the volley that was sublime.
charles-cook had a good game, 1/2 very good saves and also good claiming. Good competition between him and burge.

Ratings:
charles-cook:7/8- made some good stops, couldn't get near the goal, claimed the ball well, some of his distribution was poor but I liked how he wanted to get it moving.
Phillips-7- tried to get forward well but on tight pitch with a well organised team it was hard for him to really get in. One of his best games defensively, some brilliant last ditch tackles, despite being subject to long balls, he did well, and some of his defending was top notch.
ricketts-8- brilliant signing-MOTM- he's so composed on the ball, really looked to bring it out, again organising the defence, had a tough time with there number 9, but he was physical and pissed of their Henderson a treat.
Martin- 7-probably one of his best games, out of position for their goal mind you, but on a lot of headers , and made some good interceptions.
stokes-8- I really like stokes, think he had another great game today, they targeted him in the first half, but he stood up to it and played brilliantly, second half, he got forward really well, put in some great balls and he just kept on going. I really do like him, he's Improved massively in such a short time.

JOB-7- probably one of our better players going forward, he tried to make things happen, made some good runs, but they defended well and he couldn't get that final ball. If he had a bit more pace he would destroy teams.
fleck-7- poor start to the game, but grew into it, dictated play second half, and drove he team forward at times, some brilliant through balls to team mates, and showed his class at times.
Vincelot-6- not bad but nothing great, ran around and tries to get stuck in, but couldn't really do much last night.
Ruben-6- he had a few good turns and touches, he wants to get on the ball which is good to see, he didn't shirk a tackle and wasn't affected by a physical team, poor pen, but well done to the lad for stepping up. Think he has a bright future, just need ps to bulk up a bit.
morris-5- had an awful first half, got better as the game went on, and I'm not gonna say he's shit as it was his first full competitive game since his surgery. Good pen mind you, and he did one wonderful pass, but at times he didn't seem to want to drive forward with ball. But he looks okay.

Tudgay-7- worked tirelessly, hard work payed off with his goal in which he showed great reactions. 2 goals ruled out, one which was never off, and was a sublime volley, I like him, think team needs to realise if they want him to hold it up it has to be into chest not head. He's good a good footballing brain, he just needs a fast winger to help, JOB tried his best but the 1-2's he tries didn't work .

Madders-7- good sub calmed us down, helped us play, nice and tidy on the ball and always finds the space, needs to have confidence to shoot more, but I like this kid a lot. Maybe should have scored, I can't remember the chance now, but he's going to be key his season.
Thomas-5- not a poor performance, but didn't do anything really when he came on so I can't rate him highly or poorly.

Overall another good team performance, I thought we would lose on pens before the match but sadly I didn't bet. I don't mind the result really, as the team looks as though they cared, they are fighting for the shirt and playing well. That's all I can ask for, and I enjoyed the away day.

Quick question , who chooses the end for penalties , if it was the referee he definetely gave Rochdale an advantage , everyone was expecting the opposite end , where 3 sides of the stadium were around the goal , but he went to the other end with just Rochdale fans behind the goal

I wasn't at the game (impending baby any day now so cant venture far from home).

However, my two best mates are Dale fans and were at the game and made the following comments:

Cook - "Really impressed with your keeper, Dale kept lumping crosses in trying to test him in the first half and you could see the defence making sure they were there to mop up – he did a belting save at one point though- really good, we thought it was a certain goal."

Tudgay - "Looked a cut above this league, worked hard and always in the right position. Unlucky not to score more"

Stokes - "Best player on the pitch by a chalk, worked hard defensively but also provided an attacking threat."

They also both said that the Cov fans were great and were really pleased so many had made the trip.

Dale are a great little club and my pet team up here in exile so if we had to lose to anyone i'd sooner it was them. Just gutted i wasn't able to go.

I thought it was a flip of a coin, like at the start of a game. Could be wrong.

No sadly it's not, the ref is meant to pick the side which has the least influence/bias, which seems to have been the wrong decision to me.

Rochdale fans showed a touch of class by joini in the applause 15 mins in, was surprised given the short notice.

would agree with your best mates ratings, but have got to say Jamie Allen (24) stood out to me during the game, a very tidy player and really made it tough for fleck for a lot of the game.

Actually I heard it was something that was pre agreed based on the potential safety risk/hazard. Essentially it's the safest side of the ground...

Think that was on the radio last night

Not sure how the other end wouldn't have been safe. They played the rest of the game there.

Yeah, a good game, excellent City support but penalties are a horrible way of deciding a game and M62 closure was a real pain. But given it was only a couple of days ago it was stated on here that "the hierarchy of the Sky Blue Trust" don't want success under sisu I'm not sure why you, CJ and at least one other member of the "hierarchy" who I saw on Tuesday go to so much trouble! See you Saturday
