ROLE SUMMARY
Coventry City FC Academy are currently looking to appoint 3 Regional Academy Scouts within the Academy Recruitment Department. The position will report to the Academy Manager and Head of Academy Recruitment. You will assist the Head of Academy Recruitment in the co-ordination and organisation of all aspects of recruitment ensuring the success of the Academy Recruitment Strategy.
MAIN TASKS AND ACTIVITIES
As a member of the Academy Recruitment team, the post holder will:
- Develop a team of spotters and contacts within the located area.
- Show good coverage of fixtures within the area on a weekly basis. This can be following leads and also working alongside the Academy succession plan.
- Develop a detailed understanding of the Academy Recruitment Strategy at Local and Regional Level
- Following up any leads and recommendations ensuring all avenues are explored to identify potential elite players
- Produce Monthly communication and report along with weekly feedback on Recruitment reporting programmes
- Relationship building with local clubs, organisations and other relevant recruitment sources in your area / region
From memory, the use of the word "recruited" is a bit over-blown. I think as a scout you get your petrol money and that's it and you don't join as a club employee as such. Many scouts are doing the job principally to "keep their hand in" and use the match visits to develop/maintain their own contact books for use in getting "proper" jobs at some point.
Maybe they get a nominal match/weekly fee but I don't think that's what we offered under recent managers (which maybe explains why our scouting network was under-staffed!!). Only a chief scout, like Thorn, would be a fully salaried member of the payroll, and that's been a role which was then unfilled for a while then replaced by Venus/Widdrington's responsibilities.
This is a department that has been historically under-staffed so it's good to see the club focusing on developing this; the club needs its own proprietary database of players/prospects and needs someone in-house to keep maintaining this - I understand we've lacked this in the past which has meant that we've been uncompetitive when it comes to player recruitment.

Yes I've been asked in the past aswell on the basis of expenses etc and a windfall if any you have recruited make the grade and are sold on etc.Yeah Oucho is largely correct, I did a little bit of scouting for the academy before, the only fee you get other than transportation is based on how many players you bring in, and then how far they progress, but even then the fee is nominal, might have changed now but that's what it was a couple years back.

Indeed....which is why I pointed out the context in which we're "recruiting" scouts, lest anyone think they were full-time payroll employees.You can recruit volunteers who get paid nothing.

Oucho is just explaining how it works.
I assume you like me presumed it meant we were recruiting new scouts in different roles. Which is would potentially be a very positive move i.e. long term future. However in reality it seems it's not that significant really.
I think fair play fir Oucho and others explaining it.
You shouldn't jump in someone's back if they provide knowledge about a certain subject.
Just take on board what they said.

Julian gray has gone too.It's okay recruiting scouts the more the merrier but I watch the Acadamy or one of the age groups every week and only last week was told we are only at Higgs until March then where?. It's tough enough recruiting players under the noses of the likes of Leicester, Blues, Albion and Billa as it is but the doubts re our Acadamy future are still with us. The set-up at ccfc Acadamy is good I can only talk for the age group I watch and our standard is high and imo better than a lot but as said while our Acadamy future isn't secure our scouts will have struggle to attract newbies

My point of view I'm afraid is totally selfish on behalf of my grandson, he has at the moment ability, and he's there simply to play, learn, improve and progress and at the moment that's what is happening. The coaching is very good, he plays against better players than Sunday league he enjoys it and at the moment seems to be thriving and hopefully that continues. But our objective is for him to be good enough to make a living from football at the highest level he can achieve, if at a later date it we believe moving somewhere else to get to that required level he will, he has to, playing with better players under better coaching has to be the way, hopefully here at Cov
But that can also be counterproductive as you are getting "coached" at a lower level, whereas if you are at a Premier league club everything including coaching/academies etc would be of a much better level/standard. Also playing with better players around you can sometimes move you forward too.Tbh it’s looking more and more likely, that young kids, like your grandson, will have to stay somewhere like Coventry.
While he may be snapped up if shows talent, as is well known they hoard talent, and a lot of kids are spat out and not cared for.
Think it is much better to come through a league one or two academy, because they rely on an academy and often give more opportunities.

As stated by others though actually securing a long term place to play would be about the only positive sign that we need to see. Both at academy and at senior level.
