So its ok to call people spastics then ?
Clearly hate crime only works one way today then. Im sure anyone on here with a family member or friend who is disabled like myself will love the derogatory abuse Hill has used and tell my son who has been abused for his disability that he is privileged

Let's see if we can agree on a few things.

  • Spastic is not an appropriate pejorative to use;
  • A racist is a racist, regardless of what others say;
  • People should not boo players taking the knee;
  • Racism should be condemned without equivocation.

Anything there to disagree with?

Thank you - I didnt know whether to respond to this thread or not
I have a family member with cerebral palsy and to imply she is a lesser human being because of her disability is hurtful to say the least
I wish the words racist, sexist, homophobic didnt even need to exist
Taking the knee and those who boo it just goes to prove that it still needs to be done
Any 'ism should be condemned without equivocation

As did I with a single black mother 16, Hillfields, struggled to eat.. Did you get racist abuse as a child or told your mum wasn’t your mum or have a cousin killed because of the colour of his skin?

Fuck yourself.

And it’s not even about how hard life was growing up or how little you had you spastic.

Anyone who was booing the knee was already a knob in my book but anyone who boos it at the Reading game on Saturday after this is a special breed of twat.

I can’t relate to how you feel on a personal level, nor would I ever pretend I could, but my Mrs is half Indian, and therefore my daughter 1/4. She doesn’t look half and my daughter is white so I guess people don’t have that “I should be careful what I say in front of him” feel.

I’ve been left absolutely raging internally a handful of times when one bloke who occasionally comes with us who is a “friend of a friend”, and is definitely part of the old school “legion” mentality has used the term p*** casually in conversation. Each time it hits me personally despite not obviously being the person being abused, and then I get the guilt that I should have fucking said something. But at the same time, what’s me saying anything gonna do? Ruin the match day experience for loads of friends and family. Cause a huge divide which makes going to games difficult. End up in a scrap with a bloke nearly twice my age. He’s not gonna learn or listen. I don’t know what the “right” thing to do is, but whenever I’m in his presence it is constantly on my mind. People need to be fucking better.

I’m 36 and the term p*** was used by a lot of people when I was growing up - I suspect a lot of people my age still use it. My first couple of serious girlfriends were Indian and the only negative remarks were from white people, which didn’t end well for a couple of them.
I actually lost friends who refused to stop using the term p*** - I’d imagine they’re still using it today and blaming them for their own shortcomings.

Yeah my son is autistic, my niece (now deceased) was left severely disabled mentally and physically after open brain surgery for a tumour and my wife works in a primary school for children with serious disabilities so the word, and others like it, make me sick. These schools are off the beaten track and I presume people don’t know the extent of it. You soon realise when it touches you though.

Caught my 11 year old using it the other day (thanks YouTube) and soon stamped it out. That was through education though as opposed to hard discipline.

This is, however, not to say that I do not equally abhor racism in every form. I’ve actively tried to educate myself more over the last few years and challenge anyone who disagrees with the knee or, worse, spouts this “all lives matter” bollocks to spend an afternoon reading Akala’s book or watching a few relevant films (particularly 13th on Netlflix). I just cannot see how any reasonable person in their right mind could not acknowledge that ours remains a racist country, even if it’s now covert in the mainstream.

Retract or apologise? Doesn't seem very balanced to someone who went ballistic when he felt was the victim of something horrible.

we don’t have to be nice to anyone, we just need to avoid using skin colour/ disability as the justification for not being nice to them. Which I think is what he (and everyone else) is saying.

What is our take as sky blues fans?

It’s a society problem
It needs education
Really not helped by priti and Boris saying booing the taking of the knee was perfectly fine or that footballers should stick to playing football
Clear from the Barnsley and Dabo incidents the problem maybe small but it is showing no sign of going away
Pretty sure any right minded supporter at ccfc or anywhere would be appalled by the salute and whatever was said to Dabo while he was taking the throw
What I don’t understand is being racist to players on the opposition and supportive of your own.

Solution is education and where education hasn’t worked more education and punishment if the law is broken.

As for our game Saturday anyone booing any of our players for taking the knee to shine a light on the kind of actions we have seen aimed at Dabo need to give their heads a wobble. Anyone seeing them need to respectfully suggest they aren’t welcome and maybe the club should put out a statement to say we stand together with our players that racism has no place in football on the pitch or in the stands or around the grounds and to be fair in our society too

Boris Johnson called gay men 'tank-topped bumboys' and black people 'piccaninnies' with 'watermelon smiles'

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has a long record of making offensive comments about women, ethnic minorities and gay people.

This is a multifaceted issue because you have people with core beliefs and people who grew up in a time when racist, homophobic and derogatory language about minorities seeped into some people’s everyday language, without recourse. Companies used images to sell products that are now deemed distasteful. I mean fuckinell; ‘Rule Britannia’ ? Enslaved 12 million people and makes a song saying we’ll never be slaves?

The point is that most people understand times have changed but political shithousery has emboldened those with core beliefs. Some people are hardcore nutjobs but some people slightly less brazen are easily swayed by language like ‘Snowflake’ and ‘Cancel Culture’. They aren’t relevant here but there are people that actually believe that’s what’s happening.

For those that still think it’s ‘harmless fun’ or ‘banter’…. It’s not, it’s 100% wrong and it’s time to catch up to the progress that has been made.

Discrimination of any kind is unacceptable

Look. I regret saying it, I shouldn’t have said it and I’ve apologised. No problem admitting when I am wrong.

I wouldn’t say it to anyone, disabled or otherwise. I was heated and made a mistake.

Hardly. I'm sure I'd say worse. Victim.

You are just on the wum anyway, hill is straight down the line and I'm sure if his comment during a discussion very close to him offended, he would be the first to apologise.

It didn't offend you though.

The shock is your faux outrage which is why you aren't taken seriously.

As said, I'm sure if it was genuinely offensive to anybody they would soon get an apology (which I can see he has now posted).

Can't we just leave the unnecessary falling out, the endless debates about the knee and black managers and make sure Dabo knows we're with him at the next game? The original point of this thread.

Tbf I didn’t specifically target someone who is disabled and call them it. It was a catch all error. Also, I don’t think me and Nick have ever argued on the same side of a debate.

And can people stop defending me please.
