Incredibly frustrating again. I don't mind us losing games, if there has been some sort of fight put up. It's clear though that our earlier confidence has taken a massive hit.
We have become so pedestrian in our passing again, it's frustrating to watch.
The strikers become the scape goat when we play like this, but it's not their fault.
Granted, a great ball in for Eccles' goal, but twice in the first half Rudi could and should have put a through ball in to Simms but chose to keep running out wide with the ball, only for us to end up losing possession / check back.
I feel that the only 2 players who have the confidence to make those type of passes at the moment are Esse and Torp.
When we do attempt to get a ball in to the front line, they are rocketing the ball at them.
Simms had some good knock down headers but nobody close enough to him to collect them, or the player gathering them lost possession.
Wright was unable to make an impactful cameo for the exact same reasons.
Esse when he came on looked to take on a man and get a cross straight in, other than that it was lame build up play. Too much checking back.
We were leisurely passing the ball around the back when losing, zero urgency which is concerning.
From what we have to choose from, i would bring Lati back into the defence for Oxford. We beat both Millwall and Leicester with him in the team and something needs to change at the back.
I'd like to see us make some basic changes, stop bringing MVE over to the left hand side for long throws, get Sakamoto / Rudoni on corners, our inability to beat the first man on set pieces is tedious.
Trying something different from set pieces wouldn't go amiss either.
I'd love to see us try something different / inventive.
It would never happen but If EMC is unable to play, i'd like to see Wright on the left and Esse in the 10 for Oxford. We have become predictable, with the same line up and same generic changes. We need some sort of element of surprise moving forward.
If we manage to bring Onyeka in, i'd stick him straight in and give Grimes a rest, he looks shattered.
Yes we have seen a favourable lead slip, but they have to stand up now and show us what they are made of.
They've done incredibly well to get to this position, i hope they can hold their nerve and see it through.
Oh to be a Coventry City fan. Will turn up to support them as always.
