I think this goal is a perfect example of why I take issue with people saying the PL isn’t as good as it used to be - the technique on display from multiple players across the park is above and beyond what anyone except the very best players from previous generations were capable of, it’s outrageous. And this is from the team currently sitting in 11th!That Villa goal was something special.

No, I mean things like first touches, passing range, close control. Obviously the top players from 20 years could still thrive in today’s era, I just mean that the average PL player today has a skill set and technical ability far beyond the average player of 20 years ago.Technical because they pass more ?
Youd argue messi and ronaldo are still pissing it in modern football and they are products of 20 years ago.
But there arent many players as skillfull and natutally gifted as 20 years ago , that was trained out of them in academies , atleast they can pass and run alot

I think that’s horses for courses really…there were plenty of boring seasons at the top during the 90s and 00s too. More than a decade of Man Utd, Chelsea and occasionally Arsenal taking turns to win the league, often by huge margins. My comment about shooting is my gut feeling from what I’ve seen. Teams passing it around the penalty area, passing up decent shooting opportunities, then losing the ball anyway. Arsenal were horrendous for it in the games I saw, Chelsea too, though a few seasons back now.
