Okay, possession isn't everything and we are all very much aware of that, but barring own goals you can't score if you haven't got the ball.
17 games in. In only 6 of those have we dominated possession. Doesn't quite fit in with this notion of us having a good squad and good players for this division does it. And you have to recall, this is us being a so called passing team, both under AT and MR.
We have played 9 league games at home. In only 3 of those have we had the best of possession.
Pretty certain that pre-season most of us would have believed that we would dominate possession at home but may have found teams hard to break down. Facts say that at home the opposition are having much more of the ball. That points to something drastically wrong.
That points to us simply not being good enough.
The stats away point to us having the better of possession in 3 of 8 games. This of course is to be more expected as usually the home team do indeed dominate possession.
As I say, possession isn't everything, but with a squad of supposed quality players, in a team supposedly playing passing, possession football and building from the back, this I feel is a stark warning that we simply aren't good enough and aren't going anywhere and certainly nowhere close to anything like play-off places.
Add to all this the fact that we have lost 19 points from winning positions (case here for the 2 stats being linked) then the picture does look very bleak.
Take McGoldrick out of our team and you would have to say that we pretty much have nothing. And that is a big, big worry.
