Weren't even bullied just gave away 2 shit goals against a pedestrian team supposed to be one of the best in this league. Onwards and upwards next season with a competent keeper and a striker who can score from point blank

We don't need "luck" - just a fairly decent keeper. We've even proved we have goal scorers.Such a frustrating loss. We were the better team overall, but Portsmouth deserved to win because they took their chances.
In open play, it was a good performance, Bakayoko was a bit of a blunt weapon today but our midfield played very well. Plenty of good attacking movement, and on another day, we get another chance. Thomas is one of the most exciting wingers ball at feet we’ve had in my time as a supporter, but his composure in front of goal is poor. A better winger scores both those goals and I don’t think he’ll be missed as much as we first feared. If we counted up the amount of clear cut opportunities he’s missed, I reckon it’s close to double figures. It’ll hold him back in his career if it isn’t addressed. Does 90% of the work really well, it’s that last 10% that lets him down!
Our set piece defence is just not good enough. In the last 2 games we’ve saved 2 off the line, and conceded 2 goals. From open play, we contain teams, but our set-pieces we don’t have a club. Burge will take most of the abuse for the goals, and he deserve some stick, but our defenders give away too many free headers. Free headers in the box should be goals — both defence and GK not good enough here.
We need a lot of luck to make playoffs now, so our playoff push is probably over. Despite the disappointment, Robins has done a good job this season and I hope we can build on this going into next season.
For all of Burge’s mistakes, if our conversion rate was decent, the mistakes wouldn’t have impacted on our results as much. Take today, Thomas scores to make it 2-0, we probably win. We don’t finish teams off and the better teams make us pay. A consistent theme week on week is: we had the chances to win, but didn’t and ended up losing/drawing from a winning position. Must be frustrating for MR.
We almost through away our lead v Bradford too just after missing 2 or 3 clear cut chances.

You can tell the defence have no faith in him as Davies runs to the line everytime.
'League 2 keeper'? - Where the ball is still round and the goal frame 24' x 8' or in the spinal tap league, 24" x 8" (where he'd still concede plenty.)Aren’t Hull and Stoke supposed to be interested, it’s a shock to me I think he is a league two goalkeeper at best
We don’t create many great chances at all. Thomas creates a lot for himself and others with pace but we hardly give centre halves a hard time for sustained periods at all.
Today was a case on point of a team that banged the balk repeatedly into danger areas and had players with threat in and around the 12 yard zone constantly

It’s the defensive marker’s role to not allow the attacker a free header (1st goal). Either way, assume we went 2-0 up and the mistakes still happened we draw 2-2.
The root of our issues isn’t Burge, we miss too many chances and we don’t put teams away when they’re vulnerable. Thomas was put through twice today and should’ve done better with both chances. Blaming the keeper is reactionary.

Agree with your other points - Thomas ultimately disappointing after arriving with such promise. We won't miss him as much as Eno when the pair return but the Burge issue really is a concern should Robins give him another 12 months. Unless we get Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini and Franz Beckenbauer in as defensive coaches I don't see the issue changing for the better.The goalkeeper weren’t solely to blame for both goals. It's a 'specialist' position that normally requires great detail in 'uncovering' but I honestly believe a bit more time searching the local playing fields will reward more talent.
I understand he is out of contract in a couple of weeks? What are the chances Robins will give him another 12 months?
