I know part of football that makes it the game we love is that we are all entitled to our views. However, I think it's fair to say that some people know next to nothing about the physical attributes and skills required to be a high level professional footballer. Ponti is an example of this. There are many fans who rate him and want to give him an extended run in the team. I know he had a couple of injury concerns but he was not starting even when fit for the football league's lowest club at the time. I know he is local but he will never be a player of note for where CCFC are now or want to be.
Back to my wider point about our fan base rating poor players. Jack Grimmer is another.....a totally inept crosser of the ball and not great in the air, not quick and beaten for skill easily. He was fine as an under stugy to sterling but some fans felt he should have been first choice and retained. Doyle is another. This season L1 exposed him and while he was a good loyal servant. My point is that again a sizeable minority of fans were aghast he was dropped and I hope embarrassed as the player they rated as a starter in a league 1 play off chasing team was snapped up by one of the worst 2 football league clubs in England.

I am not getring at people and while i think we have some very knowladgeable fans many seem to be watching a different game to me. Anyway glad to see Robins with his signing and sales seems know what a decent player looks like (agogo aside).

Sorry what's the purpose of this thread apart from announcing to SBT that you apparently know more about football than the majority of CCFC fans?

Can't know that much about football if you think we signed a player called Agogo.

I’m not at all convinced by either of the keepers MR has signed.
Time will tell I guess, and I hope I’m wrong.

Agree with everything you said. If you ain't starting an argument about politics on here orr spouting nonsense about the ridiculous off the field issues at the club then a lot of users hate it lol it's a football forum and I like to see opinions about the team shared not just the couple of bigots arguing with each other about SISU.. have a day off lads

We have an obsession with players who run around like headless chickens putting tackles in.

George Thomas was crap for a number of years and then produced one season of magic in the lowest tier. He’s struggled in a very poor Scunthorpe team.

Ponti has shown nothing in the first team-so far and his progress is running parallel to Thomas’ before his one season in the fourth division .

I am very much hoping Ponti will show his goal scoring ability in the first team but he has looked like a fish out of water in his limited opportunities.

Grimmer-fair play for his good promotion season but like Chris Stokes he is found out at a higher level.

Lincoln City at home was just one game where his naivety cost us-just not good enough.

Ponticelli needs to drop a bit of timber before he gets any kind of run out.

Not sure why it hasn't been mentioned in the media yet. That's sometimes the push a player needs

I’ve seen them both play, neither stood out.
I’m not saying they are shit, I’m just not overly impressed with their pedigree.
As I said above I’m happy to be proved wrong, I’ll give them a fair chance and support them from the off etc, I just feel that for such an important possition, I’d sooner of seen us pay some cash if necessary to get an experienced proven keeper. Last season we suffered from a lack of experience from time to time,
And for me I think we could of signed better. (Albeit on paper at least)

That's what Ponticelli has been told to do!
He is being sent on for the last 5-10 minutes of games to either try to win it for us in an impossible situation, or to see games out.
When was the last time he got 90 minutes?

Just curious as to your own specialist knowledge of sports science or coaching or football management.

People are entitled to have differing opinions or player favourites without being belittled by self appointed "experts"

Just my opinion of course.

Stockdale is the obvious one, I’d of been more than happy with him, even if there was a fee involved, and his wages would of been high. But you have to invest to get good quality, and as I’ve mentioned in a previous post, a good keeper is a vital player.

It’s a lot of money for someone who can’t get a game. Money means more than ambition today.
The lad from wolves sounds promising (can’t recall his name at the mo)
He’s 3rd choice so wouldn’t be on too much.

I assume that was aimed at me? Nothing could be further from the truth and I hope your objective enough to consider if that comment says more about you or me.
Can I not say the fans I heard crying out for Doyle were a little misguided given he went straight from CCFC to the basement of the footballing pyramid? Grimmer is constantly referred to as a fans favourite, released as he is not good enough. Ponti also is on that category. Loved because of who he is not what he is.
I agree everyone has an opinion but stats and evidence do sometimes make some observations more credible than others.

Will Norris...who has played 2 league games in the last 2 years.

As I alluded to in my first comment you can’t base your opinion on whether someone is going to be good or not on the back of their career so far.

Considering Doncaster got in the playoffs and marosi played 38 games he’s got to be a better option than wolves 3rd choice keeper who’s barely kicked a ball in 2 years.

To be honest, anyone would proberbly be better than what we’ve been used to,
But have we recruited as well as we could have?
As I’ve already said, I don’t think so. But time will tell.
