Police officer shot dead inside London police station by man in custody

The fatal shooting happened in the early hours of this morning, as a man was detained at Croydon Custody Centre. A 23-year-old detained at scene with a gunshot wound is fighting for life in hospital

Most of the time a full proper body search will be conducted on handing over to the on duty custody sergeant. On the scene quite often only a light search is done, this of course depends on the circumstance of the arrest. I imagine he was resisting arrest and got cuffed. He ended up in the back of a police car without any further contact I would imagine. Then when he was released from cuffs for further searching and incarceration at the station he pulled out a gun and started shooting.

By the sounds of it he then turned it on himself but fucked it up.

If you want a highly functioning society you can't have people going round shooting the police or the police shooting members of the public for that matter.
Fortunately both rare in this country. That doesn't make it any better for this officers family though.
