All the time? Seriously?

There was one point in his career here where he was virtually impossible to play against for the opposition. Totally unstoppable.

Gross hyperbole

7s for almost everyone 8 for Hyam, superb again. 6 for Thomas who I don't yet see the hype about. Needed to be out wide but kept tucking inside getting in the way. Can't wait to see Allassani and Jones in the same team it'll be exciting times.

Exactly what I was talking about in him being unstoppable at times though. Sometimes he would get the ball and simply no defender could stop him.

Those are just Brum goals and yeah, it's only 5. He did the same for us a number of times.

I'm not saying he was great by a long chalk, but when he first came here he was dreadful and looked the worst player ever, but he then did show what he was capable of and some games the opposition simply couldn't handle him.

We need to give Bakayoko a chance. That was the point.

we need to understand what type of ball Bakayoko needs to utilse him better! Throwing a ball up from the centre backs is porr football at the best of times. I wish we would keep possesion and play it out from the back and use the fucking big lump ball as the situation dictates

Burge - 6 - Solid enough game, but beaten at his front post for the goal.
Grimmer - 5 - For me one of the weakest links on the pitch yday, I don't think Sterling is the answer. But struggled in defence on a number of occassions, misjudging the bounce of the ball and partly at fault for the goal. Gets forward a great deal, into good positions but no end product.
Hyam - 8 - one of his best games, bought it out from the back well.
Willis - 8 - standard performance from Willis these days, bossed there big CF
Mason - 9 - MOTM imo, got forward at every opportunity. Brilliant delivery for the goal. Keep it going please
Thomas - 6.5 - I would rate him an 8 for the first 60 mins. But looked shattered, wasteful at times. At fault for the goal
Doyle - 7 - played well, kept the ball ticking over. A few times a game, does random chips forwards to no1
Bayliss - 7 - excitement every time He gets on the ball, wasteful at times
Shipley - 6.5 - played well defensively, didn't do much in the attacking half. But this may be because Mason was bombing forward. Which if was the plan, worked perfectly.
Andreau - 7.5 - As many have said at times looks well above this league. Really feel that he's going to have an amazing season once he gets to full fitness and sharpness. Will mean he makes better decisions in final third.
JCH - 8 - Worked his socks off and looked up for it from the start. Love how when on this sort of form brings players into the game. Wish he'd try and turn to beat his man sometimes, think he could be our main man up top this season.

Subs

Allessani - 6 - looks a great prospect, with match fitness and time to gel may have had an assist or a goal today.
JP N/A
Babyakoa- N/A - yes he was shocking Tuesday night, but the abuse he got from some our 'fans' yday was embarrassing

Robins - 7 - feel he told them to go out there and play. From the first minute we were after them, feel he should have made changed earlier. Some players were dead on their feet, such as Thomas. Hence conceded the goal.

SBA - 10 - Consideirng the rain, were in great spirits and backed the team throughout. Apart from a couple who seemed to say nothing but negative things.

I thought Thomas was hands down MOTM,
Totally deceiving performance - looked great in areas that don't hurt a team but his decision making/execution was horrendous once he got around the 18 yard box. That run to the edge of the box where he spooned a shot over instead of slipping in a completely unmarked Bayliss was criminal and should have killed the game. Loads of potential and nice to have a quick out and out winger but needs to work on his composure.

Burge - 6 - Looked a lot more assured than LOB and made a good save in the first half after their player had walked round 6 of our defenders. Looked like he should have done better at his near post for the goal.
Grimmer - 5 - Solid defensively for most of the game but got beat far too easily on the inside for their goal. Couple of ropey crosses too. Highlighted exactly the reasons why Robins wanted an upgrade in that position.
Willis - 7 - Handled the big fella well.
Hyam - 7 - Good on the ball although took him a while to get used to the barrage he was under.
Mason - 8 - Looked much better with Shipley in front of him and they already looked like they had a good understanding. Assist for the goal with a good cross.
Doyle - 8 - MOTM. Gillingham played into his hands really by bypassing midfield and he mopped up all the loose knock downs from their big number 9. Kept his passing much shorter today too, on the whole.
Bayliss - 6 - Didn't look out of place down the middle today but Gillingham didn't play much down the middle either. The counter attacks from their long balls suited his game but he was again wasteful on occasions where a more composed pass would have lead to a goal.
Thomas - 6 - Absolutely 0 end product where it mattered. Weak shots cutting inside, poor final balls and was the primary reason we only scored once today. Ryan Kent levels of wasteful.
Shipley - 7 - Got up and down superbly and played a lot of nice passing with Bayliss, Mason, Andreu. Protected his fullback who had his best game because of it.
Andreu - 6 - Mixed bag today. Looked too good for this league at times and then squandered possession with odd passes at other times. I guess that's what you get with a creative player in the hole but he did link the attack with the midfield very well at times.
JCH - 7.5 - Good hold up play, great header for the goal, didn't go down as much first half and looked stronger than last year. 2nd half looked tired and tried to buy more fouls.

Robins - 7 - 2nd season in a row that an injury has forced a formation change for the better of the team. Lucky Manager! Could have made his changes earlier again especially as Gillingham had no fresh legs to bring on. Been handed a very good platform to build on now though.

Do I detect you are not a big fan of flair players?
Thomas and Ryan Kent are players who get people out of their seats and are a joy to watch surely?

At this level, those sort of players rarely have an end product, so while they can, on occasion, be enjoyable to watch they don't necessarily help a team win. A consistent 7 out of 10 player is probably more valuable and effective in this league that a flair player who can't produce the goods on a regular basis.

It’s catch 22 isn’t it. As there is also the argument that without players like that then you haven’t got that spark and something different.
Jones is also in that mould. I think you need these players I want to be entertained as well as win.
Thomas has the potential to develop that end product he will get better with every game. However he will need time just wish he was ours.
Regarding Kent I still don’t think it was by chance that we wavered once he returned to Liverpool. I know there were other factors but I think he was a big loss for us

Seen the goals and misses now. Incredibly harsh on burge to say he was at fault. Some poor finishing by us though

Went through his legs didn’t it?

Keepers get beat through their legs all the time BUT I dunno why he felt the need to leave his post and close the player down though, there's no angle to reduce. Just reduced his reaction time, wasn't set properly and made himself vulnerable to a pull back.

He doesn't seem the brightest to me and his weakest areas seem to coincide with whenever he has time to think - kicking, coming off his line etc
