So I assembled a few of the nicer ones, cleaned them with an old toothbrush, sprayed water on them, arranged them on a paper plate and shot this:

The lanscaping companies here use what they call 'river rock'.
You can buy it in various quantities to use in gardens.
I've no idea where it comes from, maybe they really are dredged from rivers.
Some of the stones look like granite and the one at top right looks volcanic.
But you are right they have all been smoothed by moving water or tumbling against each other.

That 2nd photo is fantastic, I really like the blurring of light on photos, definitely adds something. What is the building in the background of that one?
One of my favourite types of photography. It's called Light Trails. Long exposures, best set up on a tripod and obviously taken at night but not necessarily needs to be. You can take long exposure pictures at lighter times of the day but just adjust camera settings. Great pictures as well SW88!Until I visited Budapest in the summer and had time on my hands to test my camera, id never managed a long exposure shot. On that holiday over 2 days, I tested it against Trams! And was very impressed with the outcome!

Tripods are a great investment and they can be bought quite cheaply. No need to spend silly money. New ones can start for as little as £30-£40. I have two. One smallish one and one a fair bit bigger.Thanks HH!
