As we have the opportunity to go top of the Championship on Friday. (hard to get my head around after where we've come from) I was just wondering what was the lowest league position we plummeted to in League 2? What date? And the exact amount of time it's taken to return from that point and potentially head the championship table. I know they'll be some statto on here that has that info to hand. Whatever it is, the rise has been truly outstanding. Even with the Sisu issue and history I finally feel like club is slowly returning to the fans. Well done MR and AV, you really are true heroes and legends of Coventry City Football Club.

I don't think we ever dropped into the bottom half of L2 did we? lowest was probably about 10th I'd guess.

Happy to be corrected.....but I'd put a tenner on me being right.

Just had to check in case I'd made an arse of myself.......but no, I was right.

We were 10th in L2 after games 4 & 5.

I win a tenner off me.

Not sure where we were in the table but the lowest moment has to be when the fan went on the pitch against Forest Green

The lowest moments were not in league 2 but the previous season. Particularly the heavy defeats at Oxford, Cambridge in the cup. It was just so dismal. The league 2 season was fine and we were in the play off places for most of the season.

With you there about Oxford. It was an atrocious performance- we left when the 4th goal went in and I knew then we were probably going down, and it was only November. The only positive was that I was home in 25 minutes….

Think I’d have to agree with that we were 3-0 did against Oxford in 30 minutes didn’t look like we had a clue and were lucky to lose 4-1. Highlight of the day was the dog entertainment at half time. Then 2 weeks later Cambridge was worse. Luke Berry ran the show scored a hatrick in 30 minutes. Best part of that game was signing to Venus he was getting sacked in the morning. Can’t remember if it was that game or the game the following season that the Cambridge mascot got escorted from the pitch by the police.

The turn around is truly remarkable, but I am worried about how people seem to think Friday will just be some procession that Peterborough will let us waltz through to take top spot and then the impending meltdown if it doesn't happen both on here and in the stands

For me the low point was the 1-2 Sheffield United game at home in the L1 relegation season. The whistling, the pitch invasion, the 87th minute winner for them. There had been some worse performances and results prior to that, but this one felt like rock bottom to me.

The team that day:

  • 30Kelly-Evans
  • 2Willis
  • 4Turnbull
  • 15Page
  • 6Rose
  • 5Bigirimana

Looking at some of those teams back then it just makes the whole rise more incredible. Literally spent nothing and sold anyone who showed a glimmer of serious potential. Just assembling teams on tiny budgets to be competitive is a major achievement. Let alone getting promoted, winning league 1and now be up there challenging for a play off spot in the championship is simply staggering.

We spent more money on players in those years than any of the seasons before that going back to 2012 I’d guess - we even took a loan deal on Clarke Harris for a 6 figure sum in January in league two - prior to that season in league 1 the most spent was £125 k on Adam Barton

Bristol Rovers away on Boxing Day of L1 relegation season was dismal.

Freezing cold, dead atmosphere apart from a bit of toxic and we played absolutely shite.

Think it was Sl*de's first game.

Was at Oxford, Sheff Utd home and Forest Green away. Forest Green for me - couldn't get tickets in the away end so stood in home end, with a mate going to his first Cov game. Fighting between our own fans first half, almost decked the Cov fan who screamed at the woman selling pies at half-time "don't you have any with meat", cringing as our fans sang who is the gay boy in the pink to their keeper and finally losing 2-1.

Only saving grace was a lovely pint before the game and the tatoo artist refusing to ink SHFWF on my forehead the week after.

It's funny to think of where we are now compared to some of the crappy clubs that I created rivalries with in my head because they were a bit cunty/big for their boots. Thinking Mansfield, Lincoln, Notts County, Port Vale, Swindon... among others.
I guess due to our size vs those clubs it was always likely but given the shit state we were in I don't think anyone thought it would be this quick.

I dunno mate, after a defeat away at Colchester, possibly our 3rd on the spin (that's without looking but remember feeling pretty glum) things were looking pretty bleak. But yes the season before was a steaming pile of shite that I prefer not to think about.

Yeah, we went to that. My mate drove, I think we left just after or at half time. We were abysmal. I was thinking about that game actually having seen what a state Rovers are in now, whereas that season they were looking towards the play offs.

We also knocked then premier league Stoke out of FA Cup while in league 2. Plenty to cheer about that season. Unless you’re Mark Hughes.

My low point was definitely the season before League 2. Leaving the run to Wembley and final win aside (I just couldn't get hyped about it at the time) it was clear the writing was on the wall in the league from very early on. A transfer policy that was a complete mess, a team that was botched together because of it, league form was rotten, confidence shot. Totally uninspiring style of football, especially under Slade. Couldn't buy a win for so long. That was the worst I'd ever known it.

Sure, our league 2 season wasn't perfect, we had tough moments. But the team, style of play, transfer policy, all just seemed more coherent and positive.

The 3-0 defeat at Sixfields was pretty bad as things go, although the 4-0 Cup debacle at Cambridge was probably worse. However for my all time favourite worst game, if you can have such a thing, I give you the mid week 2-0 home defeat to Southend when Robins was actually in post at the start of his second tenure. I have never seen a 'team' (use that word loosely) so bereft of confidence, fight, energy, tactics anything. I don't think we threatened their goal once. My second son, who is as committed a City fan as you can get actually said to me after that game 'Dad, I can't watch this stuff anymore'.
He was there next game!
Huge credit to Robins as he actually had that utter shambles of a team turned around, winning games and playing well within weeks of taking over, so much so that our form over that period was, I think, at least mid table.
From that Southend game to the Millwall performance, Wow!
And yet for some, a slight dip in form will mean taxis and calls for Kenny Jackett again.

I was going to say this game too. For about 10-15 minutes we looked like we had a game plan and I thought we might stay up. How quickly my dreams were shattered again.
