Farage is a despicable individual, uses struggling communities issues to whip up hatred and incorrectly convince people he is the solution, when he wouldn't piss on the people of Coventry if they were on fire. Yet (unless he was being paraded on the pitch at half time) I wouldn't ever chant about him. We have a huge repetoire of great songs. Yet even Twist and Shout didn't get sung today, then a sizeable minority chose to sing about Starmer. For the record, I don't like the guy, he's been far to slow and complicent in the genocide in gaza for my liking, but I've got news for you, he's the only one trying to make sure you can get treatment from a doctor, get treatment at a&e, or if you have kids who aren't in private school, trying to make sure more funding is coming their way.I sang Farage is a wanker at the same time and got death stares from them. I wouldn’t bring politics into football but if they do then the anti-opinion should also be fair under their beloved free speech.
Anyway this is my first post I’ve seen tonight and I’ve just got home after an evening celebrating. No matter what political spectrum you’re from, we’re all CCFC and tonight is one for rejoicing. I’m so happy to be a sky blue tonight. We’re going up guys.
But it's not players/managers/the FA making a political statement, it's a bunch of people singing a song.
They could be down the pub, in the street, wherever, they just happen to be at the football
Couldn't disagree with your argument more.
Broad generalisation against people because of their race, religion, gender or sexual preference is obviously wrong.
Having a go at a specific person when they are in a position of power (and being perceived to abuse said power) is fine in my book.
The former is punching down, the latter is punching up and I'm okay with that.
Just a few examples I found, im sure others @Grendel are more skilled and can quite others, but this isnt a new thing sadly. There is nothing divisive about it at all, the division between people who voted for the Tories and who didn't is already there and doesn't cause any problems. People can sing about him if they want to.
Well we've found one singer from today!Just a few examples I found, im sure others @Grendel are more skilled and can quite others, but this isnt a new thing sadly.
Most people in the ground probably think little of Starmer. Most people were also there to watch CCFC rather than sing about him too.Well we've found one singer from today!
CCFC is a "him"?!Most people in the ground probably think little of Starmer. Most people were also there to watch CCFC rather than sing about him too.
Almost a gotcha, but I disagree with today's singing as I did back then. Also never heard it from the family zone.Well we've found one singer from today!
Unless I've misgendered Sky Blue Sam?CCFC is a "him"?!
A lot of clubs have 2, probably about time we had a Samuel and a Samantha.Unless I've misgendered Sky Blue Sam?
Hymn! We have many little ditties!CCFC is a "him"?!
They need educating. Unless these individuals have assets totalling over £million then reform aren't their friends. Millionaire racist arseholes exploiting former working class areas of inner cities for votes.Could we not just segregate the reform voters so we know who they are
You have changed the narrative from people singing about Starmer, to accusing people of being Tommy supporters and racist. That's a bit of a stretch. People calling Starmer a wan ker everywhere. Probably a load of young lads jumping on the bandwagon and repeating what they have heard. Not sure how many 15-21 year olds are that into politics. Didn't hear any of it in Block 20 and to be fair its always quiet in there except for the 30 seconds after a goal.Top of the league (ok we weren't in the first half) and for reasons I can guess (followers of Tommy take your money and run Ten Names) resort to bringing politics into football when it suits them. Very Very sad in a city which has a huge history of immigration playing a huge role in its recovery following the 2nd world war.
Do some critical thinking lads, you might just find yourself massively contradicting yourself, and find yourself less subservient to right wing idiots who don't give a toss about the average working man...
Yes, that's a fair comment, but you don't have to be Einstein to realise they are intrinsically linked. Local lads aged 15-21 are some of the most impressionable of all. The issue is the media narrative in this country is so shocking towards the far right that sometimes that's all they hear. You have changed the narrative from people singing about Starmer, to accusing people of being Tommy supporters and racist. Totally agree, don't want to hear left wing/right wing, Robinson/Starmer, Palestine/Israel on a match day.
Should just be about the Sky Blues.
Although it’s an elephant so could be either being a SamA lot of clubs have 2, probably about time we had a Samuel and a Samantha.
I was told it was and maybe still is a lady who is Sky Blue SamAlthough it’s an elephant so could be either being a Sam
They did a protest, because they are in fear, fear that what Neville said is paradoxically proving a point about them. The fact that what Gary Neville said is 100% on point. The fact that wealthy millionaires and billionaires leverage the working class to believe that a tiny minority of immigrants are the cause of every struggling persons issues scares the hell out of them.
They are then instructed (by a movement led by an ex criminal, and person jailed for his part in a racist killing "andrew currien is the name") to put flags on lampposts and roundabouts in every community to impose authority and to be threatening to those who are not from the same background, creed or colour. For anyone who champions this in Coventry, a city which reached out to people in Ireland and the Caribbean islands amongst other places to come to Coventry and help rebuild it after the war. Shame on you, know your history. I hope I speak for most of ccfc, but this intolerance shouldn't be tolerated, and a few flags on lampposts isn't representative of this great city which is heading upwards. No need for any of this in Coventry, come to the game, sing your heart out for the club, use politics only when it's directly related to the club (aka the council and SISU)
The same who post photos in support of Rupert Lowe. How thick do you have to be to be an average working (or non working) person from Coventry to think that Rupert Lowe has your best interests at heart? Incredibly thick I would suggest
The away end did it a few times and one of those times is when some of the people in Singers Corner joined in afterwards. From Block 13 it sounded as if it came from the away end (or at least that direction) and then other ends of the ground carried it on.
Didn’t feel anything over it in truth.
Someone had stuck these all over the toilets in the Legends Lounge. With the flag in Sky Blue which I thought they hated!Yeah, there's also that City flag with Stop The Boats on.
Now you're just making stuff up and folk are 'liking' it!When you hate immigrants so much you can’t even get through your favourite pastime of watching immigrants play football without mentioning it. Sad.
In fairness I think this is in reference to the infamous buffet before Charlton away.Yeah, there's also that City flag with Stop The Boats on.
A game or two ago we saw one chap in the concourse with one of the awful sky blue football shirts they released with 'Farage 10' on the back. In his defence though it wasn't turquoise so at least he didn't get it from DHGateCould we not just segregate the reform voters so we know who they are
Yeah,.no idea where that came from. I used to chant along, but had no idea what it was all about and this was before I even knew that Celtic were a catholic club and Rangers, protestant.Remember that thing in the West End.
City fans chanting "Celtic Rangers , Celtic Rangers"
That was it, a quick blast, probably once a match.
Bit weird, glad it's no longer.
I will die on the hill that the atmosphere suffers because the singing section is in the corner away from the away fans and they love to sing massively convoluted songs that your older average fan don’t know rather than the classics. If they moved behind the goal it would improve 10 fold but they won’t because they’ve all gone a bit cliquey.
Singing about Starmer is fucking stupid. Oddballs.
Now you're just making stuff up and folk are 'liking' it!
Some people may have been singing about Starmer, I'm assuming that's correct but only read it on this thread, however that's a far cry from what you've said and you're joining dots that arent there. Most (I guess) will be young lads who haven't even considered any other connection and simply an anti govt bashing thing because it's 'cool' and the current flavour they've heard at internationals.
Yeah i especially remember that game for the atmosphere. Only about 19000 there but the atmosphere was electricThe best example of this was the Bristol City game in 2021. The fans properly carried the players that day when we went down to 10. Look how empty it was too! Crazy.
