Midfield consists of a litany of options you’d be reasonably happy to see on the bench.

Yirenkyi is raw at the moment but with the right development has every chance of becoming a £50m+ player and was a great buy.

Amenda injury potentially will force Lampard to revert to a back 3. Then you could see Thomas, Pinnock, Mfuni. I don’t think he’ll risk playing and of these as a pair in the PL.

Needed to sign another as opposed to just needing another in terms of quantity? If so, yes. But we have 6 as it is - unfortunately 2 are now injured and one you wouldn’t really want to play unless it was a real emergency.

Combination of both. In an ideal world a starter as I had my doubts with Pinnock over a full season from the off and Mfuni is very young and raw and it's a lot to throw him into the deep end - which we're now going to have to do.

If that wasn't possible don't let Kitching go, or if he categorically wanted to go bring in another body that's capable of at least filling in and looking half competent.

It's mad when you think about it, out of the 4 centre halves from last season, we still have the two were that 3 and 4th choice form last season.

We'll probably be starting 9 of the championship side against Forest. Ipswich learnt from their previous mistakes and will be starting 5/6 new players. Sunderland started last season with 7 new players in their starting XI.
The transfer philosophy seems to have been to do a Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and sign young players for "reasonable" money with a potentially high upside. Big difference is those clubs are introducing these young players into established PL teams - not teams of Championship players.
Pinnock and Awoniyi signings seem a little desperate search for a little experience before the window shut. Neither of them would probably been on the bench for their former clubs this season. May still do a job for us but it's at a level to target 17th place rather than anything more than that.

Frank said they were chasing Big T through the summer, so it wasn’t a desperation move.

However I agree that we’re basically in some cases putting out a weaker team than we had in the championship at times.


At some point Lampard needs to take the lunge and just play as many of the new signings. Even if they only last 60-70mins. It’s chicken and egg with fitness. Just let them play and learn how each other plays.

Kitching has become a better player by not playing. He lost his place in the team to Lati at the end of the season which tells you all you need to know. He's a good Championship player.

If that in all honesty . He was woeful against League 1 Plymouth reserves

It might seem to be a mess, but we still only four league games in.

Losing Amenda could be a big blow and Thomas is always prone to a blunder or two.

So, yeah, it does look very worrying, but like I say, we are only 4 games in

Too early to judge yet and I am hopeful we will get something out of today's game against Forest. That would have everyone feeling a lot happier for sure.

Up top we have Wright out for yonks and Simms managing to not be sold and then left out of the matchday squad as soon as the transfer window shuts.

We’ve cocked this summer up so badly.

Weve went out and recruited other teams reserves (Pinnock, Onyeka, Rushworth, Bentley, Awoniyi) a fat has been (Hamer) and kids who have never played at this level (Cherif, Yirenki, Mfuni)

So why are people now suprised that it hasnt worked ?
