you do know there is an actual forum called "Football and other sports"

If ever there was a thread made for that forum its this !

To be honest it is quite nice for a change talking about something other than the problems with CCFC and the fight between ACL/CCC and Sisu. It's between fellow cov fans and with no game this Saturday just wondered if anyone else may do other things.

Ha ha...I know what you mean....its a massive boom industry these days...and loads of new artisan bike builders appearing in the UK which is great......its just a shame most of those new to the sport have no idea what they need & don't need, head straight to Halfords or Evans & get royally screwed over!

I loved BMX racing when I was a kid.....was better at freestyle street stuff, but the thrill of racing was ace. (My recent trip to the velodrome re-kindled my aggressive cycling streak:D)

After BMX, I got into Road racing & time trialing when I was about 15 and carried it on until my early 20's when I had a brief fling with downhill mountain biking....which didn't end well!

My old school & cycling mate who never lost his passion then got me back into it when I visited him in france about 6 years back....

They say "cycling is the new golf" and I believe that's true.....I often whizz past a lot of heavy-set chubby blokes of similar age to me....they are usually red-faced, bursting out of hideous branded lycra garb & riding a bike that is about 5 times as expensive as mine....all the gear & no idea !!

That's where I was ocming from really. Now each to their own of course, but in the pub before and after last Saturdays game my mates were "bike this, hill that, should I stick to hard tail or not, we have the Paris hotel booked for the tour etc..." Is as if they have invented the sport!.

Quite liked the velodrome stuff at hte Olympics though - but please don't tell anybody!

I have found myself with a lot of free time on my hands lately because A) My employers are fuckwits and I've stopped giving a shit about doing anything other than the bare minimum B) I have sold my classic cars and C) I am not spending weekends trekking to the Ricoh.

So, that being the case, I've taken up Archery. Always fancied giving it a go and as it turns out im pretty good at it. Timmy Fishface looks like a pretty tempting target.

Apologies - it's not a pretty sight, I'd agree. At least on my motorbike I could wear a full face helmet!

The frustration is that until my late teens I used to cycle everywhere, school, paper-round, out with mates, the works. Probably 100 miles a week or more. I don't even remember getting out of breath. I can't understand how all of the local hills have suddenly got so much bigger.

How true is that. Used to love cycling as a kid, and cycled miles everywhere, to school, paper round, mates etc. Loved it. Went to uni, got a job and lost the passion....terrible.

Now play a bit of golf when the back holds up, sort of getting back into cycling, and road run four or five times a week....its not pretty.

As for watching other sports, CCFC was number one, and will be again when we come home.....sadly now have seen a bit of rugby in between and a couple of cricket matches. Am a Cov Rugby fan, and i will whisper it quietly I am also a Northampton saints fan, but that is the only team I would go to watch in Northampton.

TF may well be a tempting target, but surely, given his size, he would be very easy to hit, even for a beginner! You need to challenge yourself if you want to improve!:D

Watching CCFC has always been our number one for nearly fifty years, until this season of course. Used to go to the Bees quite a lot but given up the last few years but thinking we will go back again when the new season starts now.

S'ok, ill just stand further away.

Edit: An ironic thought just struck me, a target of Timmys size, i'd have to stand a fair distance away to make it a challenge, say, oh i don't know, about 35 miles perhaps? :D

I'll be at Cov Rugby this weekend too. I haven't managed to see them much this year, but typically enough as soon as I get some free time to start watching them the bloody wheels fall off! I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the common factor. ;)

Like a few others, I'm bang into my cycling. Was a half decent footballer (so I reckon anyway!) but too many 18 yr olds running rings around me meant it was time to hang up the boots. Used to cycle a lot as a kid so natural transition for me.

Organised a charity bike ride with 3 others from London to Paris about 4 months back. Organised everything from support vehicle, accommodation, corporate sponsorship, routes, the lot. Quite proud of that actually. Now toying with the idea of doing Lands End to John O'Groats (or vice versa) in 2015. Nice challenge to set myself!

Bit too windy at the moment though. Not a fair weather cyclist and go out in (almost) all conditions. Don't mind rain or snow but wind is a right b*****d! The missus has got me a time trial session around the Olympic Velodrome which I'm looking forward to as well.

Do miss football though. Often wonder if I was local to Cov if I would've had a season ticket at HR or the Ricoh. I'm sure I would've. Infact, I defo would've. Hey ho.....

I think this is why I love cycling, its just you and the road (although if you have people to hide behind it helps!). I normally do about 60 mile every sunday and we did the London Nightrider last year which was a nightmare!

Most addictive (and most expensive) sport but love it!!

Yeah it can be expensive. I bought a nice Carbon Mekk bike last year. It was the equivalent of buying a football top from the season before so I got it for a good price. Get all my lycra gear from eBay...takes a month to ship from China but good quality stuff.

Looking to do London-Brighton in June as well and once (if) the weather gets better, planning on doing South Coast to London on a Saturday and then having a few beers on the train on the way back.

It's definitely great for my health as well!!

I enjoy riding my hybrid ( bike : ) ) One theory I have is that many former motorcyclists are now riding cycles.
Not interested in any other football. CCFC or nothing.

I watch Jets cause Mini Fokker plays for them, Know nothing about the sport so maybe it is not that far from me supporting City!
May take up fishing.

Other recreation is art/ painting. Current project is making a man cave. Any ideas for what to put in it much appreciated. 20ft x 9ft x 9ft

Great to see cultured City fans who can still be lads in two sentences!

Im doing a little bit of cycling, nothing major, just riding up to the station when its not peeing down and the odd weekend jaunt around the local reservoir chain. Hoping to build it up a little bit as time goes on. Hiking will always be my main leisure activity though, lucky enough to live in the peak district so its very easy to get out on the hills. Most weekends I cover 20 - 30 miles and then try to do a longer 2 or 3 day long hike every couple of months. It is taking a bit of a backseat at the moment though while I give the archery a go.

In all seriousness if anyone's interested I can try to sort a group discount out for a game. DM me if you're interested.

I'd rather stick hot needles into my eyeballs than watch or play the most dull game on earth - GOLF! Cricket comes a close second!

Ah yes, the sport of sticking pins in your eyes! Never understood why it hasn't been an Olympic event. Needs more funding no doubt.

Ah Hobo! The Olympic version! This is being worked on as I speak. It involves a slightly bigger pin - in fact, they will be using knitting needles. As with all events, the competitor can advance to the more thrilling version of catching a javelin in the eye. This of course has its problems. If the javelin is caught between the teeth it is deemed as failure. The more blood spilt the higher the judges award points.

just give me cheap tickets every week.

not for this sunday though, i am already going.

I can sort that out for you no problem. Just pay in one lump sum at the start of the season :)

Btw currently on the way back from a brilliant 7-3 win in Cardiff. The lads played their socks off for the new gaffer.

Do you get the fights that we see in America over here?

We do get a fair amount of them. Our league is a similar style to what's on offer across the pond as opposed to the rest of Europe. There's no real space for an straight out enforcer with the import limit. Every team does have a least 2 or 3 tough guys that can go when needed though.

Yes I have a carbon Trek, just invested in some FFWD carbon wheels too! I get most of my cycling gear from China too, quarter of the price!

Letang and Crosby are a big draw. Thommo left his head coach role in the summer to take a top job in Sweden. Matty took over but was sacked earlier this week. Marc LeFabvre has left Sheffield to replace him.

The forward lines have been moved around but I'd go:
LW: Adam Henrich
C: Ryan Ginand/Cale Tanaka
RW: Shea Guthrie
Capt: Ashley Tait
Ass Capt: Russ Cowley and Adam Henrich

We're always playing catch up against the arena teams (Belfast, Nottingham, Sheffield and Braehead) but we're a match for any of them on our day. Just lack consistency.

Doubt it will be a sell out. They're bringing a coach though despite it being live on tele.
