Oliver Dovin

Whispers from within the club that his fitness is good and he'll be number 1 this season, that lad from Everton as his number 2. Gives us money to spend elsewhere.
Does that info come with an ice cold MC promise?

Rumours from where. Sounds like bollocks to me

I like him but us trying to sign rushworth for 20 million tells you all you need to know, send him to the champ on loan for a season

Then we have to get a 1st choice AND a new 2nd choice. Cant see it.

We have to know our limitations and Dovin as a number 2 will be it imo. If our new first choice (Rushworth or otherwise) gets injured and Dovin isn’t up to it, we can always address that but I think he gets a shot as number 2.

I've been told today we're signing Rushworth and Travers, so if this is true there's the 2 keepers.

4 keepers 1 spot to start, 1 spot in the game day squads, fight it out, that's how it should be. Best man wins to fight to keep the starters job. 1 gk will be out the door or out on loan come start of the season.

Side note but can people please remember Dovin's length of recovery time next time they assume someone will recover from ACL surgery in 9 months just because Zlatan did it once
He was removed from the squad due to numbers.
We signed Onyeka and had to remove someone from the 25 man squad to make room.
And as we had 2 keepers already fit, Dovin was the obvious choice.
Im sure he would of been available sooner if we were desperate.

Ah is that right? Even so it was still around the standard 12 month recovery rather than the mental Autumn return to play dates people were suggesting

We are all making assumptions after such a long time out he might have regressed. At present none of us really know. He was looking very solid before his injury and looked to have grown into the role.
He may well comeback and surprise many of us with his performances.

In fairness I think most of our fans rate his talent. The idea he needs a loan for competitive football, after being out for so long, isn’t saying he isn’t good enough. It is about giving him the best chance, of getting back to being a contender in our first team as quickly as possible.

Loan decisions are made towards the end of the pre season, so the club will have had the opportunity to assess where he is at physically and mentally. So I am sure the right decision will be made for him.

There is no other sensible solution other than loan for Dovin, the lad needs football at decent level, championship perfect for that, mentioned previously but Boro seems like a perfect fit…….

It’s in Dovin's best interest, for his future career, that he plays next year after such a long break. King mentioned in a recent interview that it’s a club's duty of care to look after future career prospects when he was saying Brighton should release Rushworth. It would be a bit two-faced if we only thought it applied to someone we want to sign and not to a current player. But then again it is football.

All 3 promoted teams signed a new 1st & 2nd choice keeper last season

If we let Dovin sit on the bench for a year, he likely refuses a new contract, goes into his last year and we don't recoup our money on him. Alternatively, he plays for a season in the Championship & we could have our own Rushworth situation

Would argue tho with Dovin, they would know we would have to sell or risk losing him on a free. Brighton don’t have that worry this year

Amazing people are writing off Dovin , as number 1. Rushworth played 3 games the season before he joined us..I may be wrong, pse correct me.
Problem is - he was playing well as he was just getting to grips with the Championship. We've moved up a level, we don't really want him going from 18 months of no football to a level thats totally alien to him .

Well currently he’s our first choice so unless we sign a No1 it not an issue to worry about currently.

Lampard and co will have had a good look at him pre-season and during his recovery. If they think he’s good enough I don’t think the lack of playing time will be an issue

Apparently Frank really likes what he sees in Dovin. If playing him and not signing Rushworth frees up money to sign Callum Wilson and Ross Barkley I'm all for it. In Doug and Frank we trust....

If ,the club think Dovin will be good enough.for the Prem after a season on loan it doesn't make any sense overpaying for Rushworth

No minutes in the friendly. Maybe he still isn't ready despite training. Was really hoping he came back for pre season ready to go.

Wasn’t even on the bench yesterday so obviously nowhere near full fitness. GK is a top priority.

Have full faith in him but needs proper game time. Champ loan, we sign Matt ryan, nyland or travers.

Not a patch on Rushworth. Doesn’t read the game or command his area like Carl.

He just needs to go somewhere he’s going to play week in week out
Wolves need a new keeper 🤣

In all seriousness, we are only allowed a maximum of 17 non homegrown players in our 25 man squad, so replacing Dovin with Dan Bentley (who is English) keeps us within that limit and allows us to add another foreigner.

"it is possible", glad we've cleared that one up then. On the basis that Wilson isn't going anywhere as he's happy being 3rd choice and everyone seems to like having him around there seems little reason to have signed another keeper if we're not going to send him out.

Guy needs to be playing, even if you take the injury out of it, staying here and not getting any minutes is not going to do anything for him at this stage of his career.
