Seems to have been forgotten.
So where is he going to fit into the squad.
First choice if we don't sign Rushworth.
No 2, is he better than Ben Wilson.
Send him out on loan.
Sell Him.

Yes, he's better than Wilson but he needs a season playing regular first team football again after his injury. Loan or sell are the only viable options.

Play him if recovered from injury he had serious potential before his injury he wont have lost that. Gives us 20m+ to strengthen elsewhere

We are the big dogs now. Loan to a decent Champ team with guaranteed game time as a key to any deal.

It's a no brainer. He needs to play and we can't offer him that.

Possible outcomes

1. He does well and we stay up = We have a valuable asset to sell or keep.
2. He does well and we get relegated = We have a ready made Championship keeper for the promotion push.
3. He doesn't do well = We know he isn't going to cut it at the level we need

He is currently our first choice and we might not have any choice but to play him.

The Rushworth deal has stalled as Brighton keep upping the price and now want more for him than Donnaruma and Raya cost!

There seems to have been a number of great performances from unknown keepers at the World Cup. Maybe we can pick up a bargain.

What to do with Dovin and who plays as 1st choice keeper for us next season are almost unlinked. There is zero chance we will play him after over a year out. He'd be backup which wouldn't do him or us much good.

I want Rushworth and am pretty sure it will happen, the media stuff about fees is just waffle and speculation. A deal will be made of it can if not we'll move on

Yep boro be great loan.

Loan is only viable option for him after so long out, and being so young.

We can then re assess next season.

He surely stays to be number 2 with Wilson being 3.

Even if we don’t get Rushworth, we surely being in someone else in front of him.

He’s not played for nearly 18 months. A full season loan will be great for him and us

Was in superb form before his injury, top French clubs were looking to sign him too, if he can get back to that form then good for us. However a loan to the Championship would be great for all parties to help him get back up to speed.

He definitely does not need a loan to get fit. Extra U21 games and probably the cup games. Hopefully he is good to be the 2nd choice. I don't think we'll find out how he is till the friendlies start, maybe there will be some footage of him in a pre season 'Unseen' if they do one.

Loan him to Middlesbrough, in all seriousness.
Did we sign Dovin whilst AV was Robins number 2? Or was he the season after? I assume either way he would have been a long term target and so AV will be aware of him and his traits, if not aware of him professionally and as a person of he was still here

no he needs to be playing regularly and we can't offer him that, if he plays regularly and gets back to what he looked like he could have been befor ethe injury then he will be great but if he stays as 2nd choice we'll ruin him

Personally don't feel you need to have an experienced number two who picks up a big wage and mostly never plays

I'm a big fan of Wilson, but if we do sign Rushworth then having him as back up and potentially playing in the Prem is too much. As a third keeper which all Prem clubs have, then he's fine. Dovin was excellent before his injury and I'd be happy for him to be the number 2. I can't see us buying a top line keeper and being able to pay the right money to attract a solid experienced number 2 for potentially only one season. The question would be after a year out whether Dovin is prepared to stay and not play for another year as he really needs game time. Tough dilemma, but get Rushworth in and then look at options later in the window as we'll have other priorities.

Matt Ryan has good top flight experience and is available for nothing this summer. I’d be more comfortable with that than having Dovin on reserve, who hasn’t played in a long time now.

We can use the loan system now as Brighton have used it to increase the value of Rushworth, as the saying goes if you cant beat them, join them...

Loan him to Blues, as their keepers are shit.

If the Rushworth signing takes most of the summer Dovin will get plenty of game time in preseason.

I understand why people want to send him out on loan, but back up keepers by definition don't get game time. Wilson has played just 3 games in a season.

If we send him out on loan we need to bring in 2 keepers. We have 7+ weeks to make a decision.

Yes he was. Same as Bassett … perhaps AV will persuade Middlesbrough to sign him too. But last time I looked AV was a coach not the Head of Recruitment.

I think the pre season will tell us more where Dovin is at. I still think a 6 month would benefit him after been so long out. Under 21 games wouldn’t be competitive enough.

Amazing people are writing off Dovin , as number 1. Rushworth played 3 games the season before he joined us..I may be wrong, pse correct me.

I don't think anyone's writing Dovin off, just realistic with his recovery back to the level he was at or needs to be at.
Rushworth had an injury at hull and was sidelined for a good few months but was recalled by Brighton to warm the bench whilst Steele recovered from a surgery.
But Rushworths injury was nowhere near as impactful as an ACL tear nor as long to recover from.
Dovin cannot recover to his level sitting on the bench, he might get some quality back in U21 games and cup games but it's few and far away from getting regular competitive game time.
Putting him straight back in between the sticks for PL is a hell of a gamble after being away so long.
The realistic answer all round is a loan out to a mid to high table championship club where he can get that required game time to get back up to speed and ability.

Based on zero evidence.
There are only rumours on all transfers now. Everyone we sign is undisclosed.
All the reports/rumours say they turned down our 20 mil offer and now want 26-30 mil depending which rumour you want to listen too.

Whispers from within the club that his fitness is good and he'll be number 1 this season, that lad from Everton as his number 2. Gives us money to spend elsewhere.

Id be shocked if he was no.1 this season. Played no football for 18 months, still young in bigger leagues (CR got alot of champ experience now - 2 full seasons)

Dovin still very green also, yes he was starting to flourish before injury, but not a PL level GK yet. Full season on loan in champ be great for him.
